Firstly, we would like to say “Thank-you” to all of you who made our First Annual Legends of the North Bull and Female Sale a huge success. It has been an absolute pleasure to get to know new customers and to continue business with returning customers. We greatly appreciate your trust and confidence in our program. You truly are the reason we do what we do!

We also want to extend a thank-you to our friends and family that help make this sale possible. Westhill Ranch is a family business and it takes everyone to make it happen. Whether it be calving, daily chores, sorting, weaning, clipping, picturing or sale day prep you will find a crew of willing hands making it happen and for that we are eternally thankful. We also want to thank our good friends at Morin Creek Angus for once again partnering with us to offer the very best Simm X Angus replacement heifers. New this year, they also have on offer two Angus, Simm x Angus bulls for your evaluation.

Westhill Ranch bulls and heifers are bred and developed with functionality as top priority. We carefully select industry leading AI sires and walking bulls to create structurally correct, free moving, performance backed bulls and females that are designed to go out and work. These bulls are pail fed a Bullseye Feeds bull supplement as well as a TMR consisting of chopped hay and cereal silage with Bullseye mineral. The purebred heifers have been pail fed a 14% protein pellet from Bullseye Feeds with a cereal silage ration. The bulls and heifers are on a full herd health program. They have been double vaccinated with Pyramid 5 + Presponse, Vision 8 and the bulls with Fusogard. They were treated with Cleanup II early in fall and Ivomec in the winter. In addition to the purebred bulls and heifers, we are once again pleased to offer the top of our commercial replacement heifer pen. These heifers are all sired by Westhill Ranch bulls and have been developed on a TMR of Cereal silage and chopped hay. These heifers are on the same full herd health program and are ready for breeding. All of our animals sold, will be guaranteed under the Canadian Simmental Association Breeder’s Guarantee Guidelines. Should a problem arise, please reach out as soon as possible. We will work with you to get the bulls and heifers delivered in a timely manner that works for both parties. Not only did Ms. Divine 8G give us one bull in the sale pen but two. This highly maternal, moderate framed dam raised this well-muscled, thick haired, free moving IPU 30-06 son. We think highly of 30-06 and appreciate the muscle shape, strong foot and smooth shoulder he passes to his offspring. Mr. Northstar is an eyecatching, free moving meat machine. His thick hind quarter, deep middle and wide top come together in an impressive package. His dam is the result of the initial flush we did with our McIntosh Divine 29C donor. 46F has a larger frame and has proven herself as a highly fertile, “no miss” cow that we strive to build the herd around. This True North son is just an example of that. 46F produced the high-selling black bull that sold in last years sale to Double RN Ranching.

Mr. Toad is a standout that checks all the boxes for the progressive cattleman. He leads with exceptional calving ease, making him a premier candidate for use on first-calf heifers without sacrificing performance. Beyond the numbers, his physical foundation is truly elite; he possesses a superb set of feet and legs, standing on a large square hoof to ensure longevity in any terrain. Mr. Yesavage is just a February bull born off a first calf heifer that has shown his performance to keep up with his January born pen mates. Mr. Cliff Hanger is a bull that demands your attention the moment you walk through the bull pen. He has a pile of eye appeal, boasting the balance, style and presence of a true herd leader. Mr. Mountain may be the youngest bull on offer, but he is certainly not to be overlooked. He is a purebred Simmental, but we unfortunately lost his maternal grandsire before submitting DNA.

We had bought some embryos a few years ago looking to raise the bar in our cow herd, we never did get a female out of the deal but looking at this guy gives me a lot of comfort. Hes the combination of power and maternal qualities that we look for, he’s deep ribbed and wide up top and would work great on a group of heifers or cows.

FROM MORIN CREEK ANGUS

Welcome to our second annual legends of the north bulls and female sale. The first sale far exceeded our expectations. Our heifers sold to buyers in 3 different provinces and we had interest from buyers on the east coast all the way down to Montana. It was a pretty humbling feeling having as much interest in our program as we got and we really appreciate it.

This year we have a few less on offer as we try to continue to build our herd and take advantage of good beef prices. We also are doing something a little different and offering two of our bulls for sale right from the top of the pen. They are a good representation of our program, so make sure to have a look at them.

This year we have heifers sired by bulls from Wheatland, Crossroads farms and Hamilton farms and a few of our own bulls. Again bulls with maternal qualities and good disposition are the only thing you’ll see walk our pastures. We focus on developing a good female and from there good weening weights seem to be easy to achieve.

Don’t hesitate to call with any questions on the sale offering or contact our sale staff. Our cow herd is something we take great pride in and really enjoy having people tour the herd or the bull and heifer pens and hearing feedback and different perspectives.

HOW THE HEIFERS WILL SELL

Heifers will be sorted into groups of 3-6 and videos of the groups will be posted on our Facebook page Morin Creek Angus. We hope to see everyone there but If you’re unable to attend in person, the sale will be broadcast live on DLMS. We would appreciate the heifers picked up on sale day but understand it’s a busy time of year and are willing to bring them home until other arrangements can be made.

With the first two years of a heifers life being the most important to their development, we have worked closely with Ryley Noble of Bullseye Feeds to develop a ration of hay silage and pail fed oats with a custom free choice mineral to focus on health and fertility. They are wintered in a 4 acre paddock so they still have the ability to move around and exercise.

All heifers will be palpated for breeding soundness prior to the sale.

HEALTH

We have a complete herd health program. At birth, calves are given Inforce 3, Vitamins A&D and Toltrazuril for the prevention of coccidiosis. In May, before hitting pasture and at weaning, they are vaccinated with bovishield gold one shot, vision 8/somnugen and will have all pre breeding booster shots along with CyLence pour on in March before being sold.

Once again, we are proud to consign 21 Red Simm X Simm Replacement Heifers from the heart of our replacement pen. These truly are heifers that should be staying, but Dad is starting to slow down and Matt and Katelyn continue to work off the farm. These are daughters from honest, hard working, strong uddered cows. They are all sired by Westhill Ranch born and raised walking bulls. These heifers are on a full herd health program and have their pre-breeding shots. The heifers are not branded. Invest with confidence in these one-owner heifers, that are extremely hard to part with!
