Viewing the Bulls

We welcome visitors at any time. We encourage you to come to the farm before the sale and to take as much time as you need to view the entire offering.

Video Sale

This is a video sale, the bulls will not be walking through a sale ring. Please come early to view the bulls penned outside prior to the sale. Videos of all the sale lots will be available for viewing prior to the sale at www.cattlevids. ca and www.charolaisbanner.com.

Bull Warranty

We guarantee to provide you with a sound, fertile bull capable of servicing a reasonable number of cows. In the event that your bull is a non-satisfactory breeder, the seller will not, under any circumstances, be responsible for more than the original selling price of any bull sold in the sale. The seller will not provide replacement or credit for mismanagement. Therefore, we stress the importance of insuring your bull. An insurance agent will be available on sale day. In the event that your bull is not working for the breeding season following its purchase, know that we have kept spare bulls for that breeding season to make sure that your cows get bred. We will collectively come up with a solution to your needs.

Semen Rights

Legacy Charolais reserves the right to collect semen on any of the bulls sold at their expense and buyer’s convenience.

Delivery

We will deliver all insured bulls free of charge to central points in Western Canada by April 1, 2026. Bulls that are not insured will be delivered at the seller’s earliest convenience.

Volume Buyer

If purchasing 3 or more bulls you will recieve a 3% discount on all your purchases.

Repeat Buyer

If you purchased a Legacy bull in 2024 or 2025, you will recieve a 3% discount off your bull purchase of 2026.

Buyers who qualify for both discounts, however, will only receive up to a maximum of 3% off their purchase price.

We would like to welcome our fellow cattleman and friends to our 9th annual bull sale.

We are extremely proud of the set of bulls we have for offer this year. We have sorted the bulls out for you by sire group, but any group could have started this years catalog. It is important to us that you see the whole program and we are proud to picture and video all sixty bulls in the sale.

At Legacy Charolais we are always trying to do better. We are constantly trying to improve genetics, farm as efficiently as possible all while trying to reduce the workload. We have high expectations from our cow herd – they have to be functional and productive with an emphasis on consistency. If we select for these traits, they transfer forward into the herds that Legacy bulls are used in.

Often in this business our customers become fast friends. Even though everyone’s farms are unique, there is a lot of commonalities with having cattle in which we appreciate. Thank you for your past support!

In between farming, we fit in a little bit of fishing and camping. We went on a BC road trip right before harvest in which we had a great time.

CCYA was hosted in Stettler this summer and it was amazing! We were very proud to be amongst the amazing organizing families. This year was extra special as Hayley had well-deserved success with her show cow. She genuinely believes in this pair, did the work to get her where she needed to be for the show and won herself Reserve Grand Champion Charolais Female. Equally as impressive was when the kids’ herdsman group was awarded top place! This is an award about teamwork and positivity and we are very proud of all of the kids in the group.

Harvest was all hands-on deck this year. We are very thankful to Tyson, Rhonda, Peter, Hayley and Owen for all going that extra mile to help us get it in the bin.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

Breeder Guarantee – Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Bull Evaluation: All bulls current weights and scrotal measurements will be available prior to sale day. All bulls selling will be semen tested. In the event that you purchase a Decision Deferred bull, we will re-test the

bull as soon as it is safe to do so following the sale. If the bull does not pass that semen test, we will let you use a different bull for the current breeding year and keep a sale credit of the value of the bull you purchased, or refund your money back. We would never keep a bull in the sale that we did not believe, with the advice of the vet, would not go on to pass a semen test.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise,in the event of accident or loss of property.

Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day.

Kingston was purchased in 2023 as the $52 000 high seller in Wilgenbush’s bull sale that year. We didnt get to use him as a yearling due to an infection, but we are glad we waited as he is proving himself to be a worthwhile investment.

We believe that this bull is an elevator! He is huge middled, perfect footed, sires easy calving calves, with a great disposition – just an all-around great bull. We are very excited to be able to lead off this year’s sale with this sire group.

OUR FEEDING PROGRAM

Initially the calves are started on a palatable calf starter to promote solid feed intake while on pasture. Calves are then transitioned to Country Junction Feeds 16% Right Way Classic ration, a blend of digestible fibres to provide energy for growth while maintaining low dietary starch levels. In addition, it contains chelated minerals, trace minerals and Vitamin E at a higher level to promote better skeletal growth, scrotal development and immune response. Once off pasture, calves are fed a silage based total mixed ration supplemented with the same pellet. This feeding program balances skeletal development with muscle development making the bulls ready to go cover some ground.

BIRTH WEIGHT & CALVING EASE

University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusions:

1. The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%.

2. The female has 60-70% influence on BW of her calf.

3. The bull has 30-40% influence on BW of his progeny.

4. Pelvic measurement and angle as well as the shape of the calf have 35-40% influence on CE.

5. Length of gestation greatly affects BW. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation.

6. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation.

7. Size and maturity of the cow influence CE.

Remember, everything is relevant. Increased growth, frame and performance will increase BW. A longer-bodied calf will weight more. If a calf is expected to have genetics for growth, it will display this prior to birth as well as after. As a rule of thumb, it takes a calf weighing 85 lb. at birth to finish at 1200-1250 lb. A cow should easily give birth to a calf weighing 8% of her own body weight. Thus a 1200 lb. cow should give birth to a 96 lb. calf with ease. Continued selection for light birth weights will ultimately reduce the mature sizes and performance of your cattle.

We have been fortunate enough to get to use a bit of semen from bulls sold in some of our previous sales. Rockstar was sold to Wilgenbush Charolais in 2024 and we thought we’d use him on a handful of select cows.

Rockstar did not disappoint! His offspring have the muscle pattern, length of spine and shape we look for. He encompasses the attributes that we appreciate in his sire, Game Day. We love Rockstar’s cow family and feel he is stacked with maternal quality. These Rockstar calves are an awesome and a prime example of why we are excited about this pedigree.

When you know a bull works in every way, it is a natural to keep using him for as long as you can. For us here at Legacy, Game Day has really been the herd bull we measure everything up to.

Game Day was purchased by Poplar Bluff Stock Farm in our 2020 Bull Sale and we couldn’t be happier with the friendship this has created. He is continuously siring progeny that mimic his desirable traits – performance, muscle pattering, perfect foot structure, length of spine, docility, haircoat and the homozygous polled gene. There are two things that elevate him to the next level for us- his beautiful, productive females and the fact that his calf crop quality is excellent and consistent. Game Day progeny has been well accepted and topped the sales that they have been part of thus far.

King Maker was purchased with our good friends from Poplar Bluff Stock Farm. We are excited to be presenting, for another year, this set of calves sired by him. King Maker for the second year naturally bred our fist calf heifers and some select cows and then went on to work at the Taylors. He has continued to maintain his great disposition at both places and is maturing out as we were hoping he would.

King Maker is one of the best footed and conformationally correct bulls we have walked here at Legacy. He carries and passes on his exceptionally balanced bone size and style. His offspring are well muscled and fee moving just like him. This year we get to finish his evaluation as we are calving out the females he has sired. We couldn’t be happier with how they are milking and performing. We are very glad to have King Maker part of our program here at Legacy.

Reagan is a bull Hayley picked for us to try something a little different here at Legacy. The calves have style and shape with calving ease that we like. Reagan has sired offspring that compliment both the heifer pen and the bull pen.

Latin was the high selling bull we purchased out of Elder Charolais 2024 bull sale. He was an excellent breeder and has sired some very marketable bulls. He has been a good addition to the bull power line up here at Legacy.
