Highland Stock Farm 23rd Annual Bull Sale - Bragg Creek, AB

Page 1

WELCOME

FROM HIGHLAND STOCK FARMS

It is with great pleasure that we present to you our 23rd Annual Bull and Female Sale. This year is an incredibly exciting year for cattle producers on both sides of the border. The best prices we have seen in a long time.

As you may notice, we are about even in bull and heifer offerings this year, we had an exceptionally heavy heifer year. For example, we had 6 Angus bull calves and 19 Angus heifer calves; this was also the same result in our Limousin herd. So, we joked we would have a female sale and a select bull sale.

This year, we also had the opportunity to feed both bulls and heifers at SSS. We thank the Sibbald family for helping develop our sale offering this year. The cattle will be at SSS until March 18th and then will be available for viewing in Bragg Creek on March 19th.

As in past years, we took advantage of the nice January weather to video and picture typically earlier than we would. I would recommend to please come tour the bulls as they are changing every day and the growth they will see in the next few months.

I can’t say enough how we appreciate the loyalty of our customers and we look forward to how their Highland sired calves develop in the marketplace. We enjoy hearing and seeing updates from our customers. I want to thank each and everyone of you who has been a part of our program— without you we’d not have made it over 100 years in the Angus breed and 56 years in the Limousin breed.

I would like to make note – we are still waiting on our DNA results from Neogen, unfortunately with the moving of their main lab back to the US, we were met with a customs delay. I resubmitted all the DNA on Jan 20th. If all goes well we will have results by March 1st.

I would like to recognize everyone who puts effort towards our sale, Peter Boake & Crew for clipping bulls & heifers, Jordan, Kailey, Clara, Dawson & Peggy for videoing and picturing. To my husband, Noah for helping on his days off as well as my sons, Holt & Revington, they are becoming an important part of our day to day around the ranch. Of course, my parents Rob & Marci –without them I don’t think there would be a bull sale with such hospitality.

Thank you & we look forward to hosting you in Bragg Creek on March 21st - join us for lunch at 12:30pm and the sale to follow at 2pm!

All the best, Amanda

EMPHASIS ON HOMOZYGOUS POLLED We at Highland believe that the homozygous polled trait is the most important thing we can pass on to commercial cattlemen. If you use a homozygous polled bull, you will not have to deal with horns. We do not use the term double polled as all it means is that the parents are polled and the offspring have not been tested or they did not pass the homozygous test. We have only used homozygous bulls for several years. We are now an entirely homozygous polled herd by pedigree.

LIMOUSIN BULLS

HIGHLAND MAUI 31M

We think Maui is something special. We would like to talk to the buyer about the opportunity to use him on select females until the middle of May. Holt showed him this past summer at the Canadian Junior Limousin Impact Show in Swift Current. His mother 315A is a daughter of the high selling female from the Combest Dispersal. She also produced the cohigh selling bull in 2023 to Rafter DP of Oklahoma. She also had a very good son to Gordon Bredahl of Saskatchewan in 2018 and a daughter to Greenwood Livestock in 2019. Another son we used ourselves last year and he has produced a very impressive set of calves.

HIGHLAND MEXICO 35M

35M is a ¾ brother of 32M . His dam is another attractive three year old that traces back to a purchase Amanda made from Lynn Combest in a Cattle Call Sale. He was shown this past summer by John Penman at the Canadian Junior Limousin Impact Show in Swift Current.

14N’s dam has produced a heifer for Chris Fileccia of Cochrane, and bulls for both Greg & Bruce Appleyard, Tim Nelson and Bonnie Waters. 14N was her last calf as she would have been thirteen years old this year.

15N sire was twice the Grand Champion of 2024 & 2025 Farmfair in Edmonton and Grand Champion at Agribition in Regina & Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City. His dam tied for the high selling heifer at Eastern Showcase from Wepplers. He is truly an exciting outcross pedigree.

16N is another outcross pedigree. We purchased his dam in the winter of 2024 as a bred heifer, unfortunately we found her dead in the pasture in mid June. We believe 16N did exceptionally well as an orphaned calf.

17N is the result of an embryo purchase from Rocky & Debbie Payne of Payne Livestock, Lloydminster. A full brother, RPY Tank – sold to Stewart Limousin of Stettler. Another full brother & full sister were sold to Qually T and Tedford Limousin respectively, both of Saskatchewan.

LFLC DOLLAR BILL 764D
