The price per pound average for a 4-H Beef has stayed fairly consistant for many years
So lets go shopping: You’d like 5lbs of extra lean ground beef (1lb for supper tonight, the other 4 you’ll baggie up and freeze for later), 4 decent steaks for the BBQ (each steak is 8oz), a nice roast for Sunday dinner (4 lbs), and you ’ ve been wanting that chunk of brisket to put on the smoker (5lb). Your grocery bill for the meat comes to $393.16. That same 18lbs of beef could be sitting in your freezer for $259.20.

Hi there, my name is Braxon and this is my 2nd year as a junior 4-H member. My steer’s name is Tim and he is a black angus simmental cross. He was a bottle calf since he was only 2 weeks old. We have raised him on our farm and feed him barley from our crops. He weighed in at 590lbs in November and on Feb 28 he weighed 1030 lbs. He is estimated to weigh 1225 lbs by show day. Hi my name is Cohen and this is my first year as a junior 4-H member. My steer project is a black angus simmental cross and his name is Beckit. Last year he was my cleaver project and he was bottle fed from two weeks old. He loved his milk very much. In November at weigh-in he weighed 560 lbs and Feb 28 he weighed 940 lbs. He is eating well and loves his barley we mix from our crops. I am excited to show Beckit June 3 at sale day and he is expected to finish at 1250 lbs.

Hi my is Riley, this is my 3rd year in 4-H, and this is my steer Gary. Gary weighed in at 746lbs and by March 1st he was 1120lbs. I would like to thank TRI-S FERTILIZER for buying my last years steer - Jim. Now back to Gary, Gary is a homegrown, Simmental/Angus steer from our own herd, and I think he will taste really good. Hay there, Ha ha. My name is Wyatt Croll and this is my 7th year in the Rangeland 4-H Beef Club. First off, a big thank you to BUNCH PROJECTS for buying, and the Innisfail Auction Market for selling my club champion steer last year. This year I have raised for you another Charolais X named Ned. He weighed in at 844 lbs. and by Feb 28 he was already 1210 lbs. I estimate he will finish at around 1500 lbs. So empty the beyond beef out of your freezer and come on down to the Eckville show and sale. Because this guy is going to be one tasty transitioned bull.

Hi, my name is Bailey Dunnigan and this is my 4th year in 4-H. This year, I’m showing Ralph, a highquality Red Angus steer. Out of all the projects I’ve raised, Ralph is easily the standout. I am very happy with him and if you buy him I am sure you will be too. He has shown incredible growth and muscle development on a premium ration, and I’m confident he’ll fill up your freezer. Hi, my name is Luke Hambly and I am in my second year of 4-H. This is my second steer project and his name is Brownie. I have raised him with my brother, Brownie was my brother's cleaver calf last year. Brownie is a red angus steer and he is very talkative and sassy! At weigh in Brownie was 770lbs. I am Mila Noble, this is my third year with Rangeland 4-H Beef Club. This year my steer's name is Sir Loin. Sir Loin is a Shorthorn Simmental Cross from a farm near Kevisville. He has a very nice bold red colour which shows off his even build. He has a great personality and he loves scratches and food more than anything! Hi my name is Georgia Quartly and this year I have a steer and heifer. This year I got my heifer, Nala, at the home farm and I got my steer, Nacho, from Alan Ebbesen/my papa. Nacho is a sweet steer and is as calm as a cucumber. When you feel his brisket it is fat and meaty so if you buy Nacho you will have a good brisket to eat. Nacho’s dad is my favourite bull: Marquee! Our heifer show is where you will find Nala and I on May 31st. The steer show and sale is on June 3rd. That is where you can try to buy the awesome Nacho.

My 4-H animals' names are Petunia:heifer, Norito:steer and Merida/Perseus:cow/calf pair. Norito has an estimated finish weight of 1450lbs. He will make some great steaks for the 2026/2027 year! Hi! My name is Sawyer, and I’m 11 years old. Also, I’m the clubs News Reporter. This is my second year in 4-H, and this my second steer Rowdy. He is an Angus crossed with a Longhorn. Rowdy is a very rambunctious steer with a kind heart and soft eyes. As soon as he was born at our farm, I knew that I was going to use him as my 4-H calf. Even before 4-H started he let me pet him. Some of Rowdy hobbies are… scarfing up his grain, kicking up dirt in the barn, getting brushed by me, and flapping his ears. Working with Rowdy is awesome and he always makes me smile. My steer, Bolt, is a later calf born in May and weighed 528 lbs at the start of my project. This is my first year in 4-H showing a steer. Bolt was born and raised at our ranch. He is a Black Angus x Simmental. He’s got a lightening bolt on his leg and that’s how he got his name. He is a smaller framed steer, but well balanced and nice and chunky. I’m proud to be offering this home grown steer from our herd! See you all at the show and sale.

Hello, my name is Jaxson Pfahler and this is my steer Jeff. My little sister suggested Chicken Ramen or Jeff, so I went with Jeff. I am 14, and in grade 8 and this is my 5th year in 4-H. I picked Jeff out because he looked like he would grow well, and I liked his roan colors he is a Gelbvieh Hereford cross. I am hoping he finishes around the 1350lb-1400lb range. I have been brushing him to keep him clean, and walking him around the pen. I feed him grain and hay twice daily and he has been eating up nicely. My favourite thing about 4-H is hanging out with my friends and learning about the economics of raising and selling animals. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the show and sale in June.

Hi there, my name is Weston Pfahler, I am 12 years old and in grade 7. This is my 4th year in 4-H. I named my steer George Ballooney because he looks like a George. He is a Gelbvieh Hereford cross. He is eating grain and hay twice daily and finishing it all up. He is a very friendly guy and I enjoy brushing him and feeding him. I am working on getting him to walk nicely. My favourite thing about 4-H is spending time out with my steer, and my least favourite thing is having to fill in my record book. He is an Angus/Maine cross, I got him from Diamond M Stock Farm. Burt is a very curious one, he always likes to sniff you. He is a very good steer to work with, and makes my job a lot easier. Hi, my name is Grace Rodney. I am 10 years old, and this is my second year in the Gilby 4-H Club. This is my steer Ferdinand. He was named after the bull in the movie Ferdinand because he is very gentle. He is a Hereferd/Maine Cross, and I got him from the Diamond M Stock Farm (my grandpa). He is very funny, and has a unique personality, like when he is waiting to be fed he grunts if you take too long. Thank you to all the supporters of our 4-H club. Hello, my name is Tilden Rodney. I am 12 years old, and this is my second year in 4-H. This is my steer Tedd. He is an Angus/Maine cross, and he likes to eat a lot of food. Ted is the biggest steer on the farm. He came from Diamond M stock farm (my grandpa). My steer is really quiet. Ted is fed a 4-H ration and has free choice hay. I would like to thank Carmen Hainsworth with VOLD, JONES & VOLD AUCTION CO. LTD for purchasing my steer last year. My name is Riata Schiestel. I am 11 years old and in my second year of 4-H. My steer’s name is Nelson, he is a home raised Gelbvieh cross steer. I chose him because he is a big quiet calf but also will be very tender and well marbled. My goal is that he will weigh 1,300lbs at achievement day. Hey there!! My name is Janine Smith and this big guy is Bruno. This is my ninth year as a member in the Gilby Beef Club. I am club treasurer and proud to be a West Central Regional Ambassador. I also have a carcass steer and a full herd of female projects. Bruno is a hormone free steer who is super calm and friendly. On February 14 he weighed 1100lbs. He is being fed a barley ration with free choice hay. We are so excited for the rest of the year! I’d like to thank all the buyers who help make our 4-H show successful with a huge shoutout to my last year buyer, RAM RIVER ENVIRONMENTAL. We both hope to see you at the sale this year!

Kirk is a handsome and curious Sim/Angus calf that has been on track to reach his ideal end weight of 1450 pounds. Kirk loves attention and his food which all contributes to his massive weight gain.
