My name is Emma. I am 12 years old and I am in Grade 6 at Ecole Olds Deer Meadow School. It is my fourth year in 4-H. This year I have a Simmental/Angus steer named Mr. Tinkleton. My favorite part of 4-H is getting to learn new things, meeting new people, and hanging out with friends. My hobbies outside of 4-H are hockey and I used to do soccer. In my free time I like to dirt bike and play outside games.

Hi, my name is Sarah. I am 15 years old, and in Grade 10 at Olds High School. This is my second year in 4-H. I have a Charolais X market steer named Clyde, a Red Angus carcass steer named Ol’ Red that I’m sharing with my brother and an Angus/Hereford X Yearling Heifer named Gemma. I’m on the ACYA board and attend the annual Canadian Charolais Youth Conference and Show every year. I enjoy showing cattle throughout the spring and summer. Outside of 4-H, I enjoy spending my summer weekends on the diamonds playing competitive softball and coaching U11 softball. Hi, My name is Gavin. I'm 14 years old; this is my third year in 4-H, my market steer’s name is Clarke. He is a very friendly steer that is the first to greet in the pen. I’ve enjoyed learning how to properly groom him. He has been an amazing steer to work with. I also have a heifer project this year named Natalie. The hardest part of 4-H is still being the record books; however, I know how useful and valuable they are, the easiest part has been halter breaking Clarke. When I’m not busy with my steer and heifer, I enjoy most sports with Hockey being my favorite.

Hi, my name is Braden. I am 17 years old and in Grade 12 at Olds High School. Along with 4-H, I am the president of the Alberta Charolais Youth Association and attend the Canadian Charolais Youth Conference each year. Hi! My name is Myah, and this is my tenth and final year in 4-H. The marked-up steer pictured is Napoleon Dynamite, a homegrown Hereford Angus cross. Napoleon has been a big calf since day one and has been raised on a high quality diet of cereal silage, barley, and supplement to ensure he will have an excellent carcass quality when you purchase him! Next year, I will be attending the University of Saskatchewan to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Animal Bioscience, with the goal of becoming a bovine embryologist. By purchasing Napoleon, you’re not only getting high quality, great tasting beef, but also helping support my post-secondary education and future career in agriculture. My name is Logan Finnigan and this is my fifth year in 4-H. I am 13 years old and in grade 8. Some things I like doing in my spare time are reading, going to our cabin, and playing video games. My name is Denton. I am 9 years old and I am in Grade 4. This is my first year as an official 4-H member, I have been a cleaver for three years. This year I have a market lamb named Bubbles. My favorite part of 4-H is working with my sheep and making money. My hobbies outside of 4-H are baseball, climbing and enjoying the outdoors.

Hi, I'm Georgia. I am 13 years old and I'm in Grade 7 at Ecole Deer Meadow School. This is my fourth year In 4-H. My favorite parts of 4-H are Multi Judging and Public Speaking. This year I placed 2nd ant Areas Public Speaking. I have an Equine project named Rez and my market lamb’s name is Buddy and he’s a Suffolk X. Outside of 4-H, I enjoy doing Gymkanas, softball, volleyball, being outside, and just riding for pleasure.

My name is Natalie Saar and I am 14 years old. I am in Grade 9 and go to school at Innisfail high. This is my first year in 4-H and for my project I have a market lamb named Spice, a Suffolk Southdown cross. My favourite part of 4-H is meeting fellow farm kids and learning all kinds of useful skills. Outside of 4-H I like to spend my time on our dairy farm either working or having redneck fun. My favorite part about 4-H is getting to show and brush my lamb, as well as go to 4-H camp. Hello! I am Emily and this year I have a home grown lamb named Wilson! Wilson is super friendly and loves pets, and he's growing super well. Along with my market lamb I have a flock and a horse project. I am proud to be able to show my flock for the third year in a row, and having them as all my own raised ewes. I am super excited for our show this year to show you all of my projects! This year I am taking Wilson and my ewe lamb to 4-H on Parade, as well as my flock to summer shows. This is my nineth year in 4-H and my second year as a 4-H Alberta Ambassador. I have several lamb projects, and I have done beef, pheasant, and small engines in past years! In the fall I will begin a degree in commerce at UAB, and in my free time I love spending time with friends and family.

My favorite part of 4-H is being able to create a great connection with my animals while working towards our show and sale. EQUINE PROJECT
The horse girls always have a great year, and this year was no exception! Our equine project has seven enthusiastic members and one cleaver this year. We kicked the year off with a trail ride at Lutz’ Farm, even discovering teepee rings along the way. From there, we focused on balanced riding with Kim Thom, working to improve our seat and connection. That progress carried us into learning our musical ride pattern and fine-tuning our skills with Brooklyn Niznik.
In May, we proudly showcased our musical ride and competed at the District 4-H Show alongside four neighboring clubs. Members participated in showmanship, Western and English classes, trail, and of course, gymkhana.
Overall, it was a year filled with growth, learning, and accomplishment!
Our Small Engines project is now in its third year. Although we have a small group this year with only four members, there is no shortage of unique and enjoyable projects. This year we have seen 1970's Kohler garden tractor engines, Briggs and Stratton mower engines, and a member that repowered a vintage 1970's John Deere tiller. We started the project learning safety and engine basics, then proceeded to dismantle our engines and diagnose any issues. Some key components of our projects are learning how engines work, learning how to properly identify an engine, compression checks, crankshaft runout checks, cleaning and degreasing, fuel systems, spark plugs and carburetor checks. We wash and prepare the engines for rebuilding. The rebuild stage is the best part, followed by the excitement of running it for the first time. We are learning to do by doing and having lots of fun while getting some valuable hands-on experience.
