Daines Cattle/O’Neill Livestock 31st Annual Bull Sale - Innisfail, AB

Page 1

What a time to be in the cattle industry! Prices are high and the momentum is strong.

These bull are raised by hard-working cows that are ran under real world ranch conditions. They’re cows that exemplify quality, longevity, functionality and practicality. Take a look at the age of the dams, you can see the longevity in our cows. We have a great group of young cows coming up and they stem from the old gals that get it done year after year. One of the comments we hear most frequently from our customers is how long these bulls last. They have been developed with getting your cows bred in mind, first and foremost. Crack the trailer door and send them to work.

The sale bulls were run on grass for the fall, then they came in and have been on TMR ration. Our goal is to develop these bulls to be ready to get out and get cows bred this spring and for years to come. They are run on a 20-acre field. As always, we are mindful of temperament. Every bull that sells, sells with a passed semen test; no DD bulls sell.

Once again, we are excited to have on offer a very nice set of replacement heifers from Mark Daines & family. These heifers are quality females that sell sorted into uniform groups, ready to go make mama cows.

If you would like to come view the bulls prior to the sale, be sure to reach out. The bulls will be available to view at the Auction Market from the Monday before the sale, leading right up to the sale. If you are unable to make it sale day, please let us know in advance and we will work with you to find the right bull for your program.

We want to extend a big thank you all of our past buyers and bidders. We also want to thank each and every person that makes the sale possible. The support is sincerely appreciated.

Please plan to join us on Thursday, April 2nd to enjoy good hospitality, a good visit and good bulls.

Cheers!

WGD CRUSH THIS 127L

WGD MISS CRUSH 23J

Right from day one, this bull has been an eye-catcher. Backwoods combines calving ease, maternal strength and growth. His dam, 127L, has a beautiful udder and has already been flushed. 127L is a maternal half sib to lot 11. Backwoods was Reserve Champion Senior Bull Calf at Farmfair. Backwoods is so good in his lines, he has awesome neck extension that comes high out of his shoulder junction. Backwoods also has an outstanding disposition, the kids enjoyed working on him this fall. Backwater Jack semen is getting harder to find and here is a son that checks all of the boxes. If you are hunting for a calving ease specialist with a beautiful dam, that still has grow and go be sure to track down Backwoods! Retaining in herd semen use.

DAINES GILMOUR 537N

Here is a game changer. This bull has an awesome profile and pedigree. LT Global was the High Seller of the 2024 Lindskov LT Sale. We were really excited to get in on LT Global semen with a great group of people. Gilmour had a very successful fall showing, collecting a banner at each show he went to. He was Champion Junior bull and then Reserve Champion Charolais Bull at Olds Fall Classic, as well as Reserve Junior Bull Calf at both Farmfair and Agribition. The best part of this bull just may be his 11-yearold dam. If you are serious about a purebred bull, you truly need to come look at her feet and udder. We think he would calve fine on well-developed and managed heifers and plan to use him on some of our heifers.

Retaining 1/3 semen interest.

This homo-polled bull doesn’t lack length of body, depth of body, depth in terms of overall quality or depth in terms of his pedigree. 508N in the top 10% for 7 of the EPD traits and in the top 30% for 11 of them, as well as in the top 5% for TSI. A really sound, correct made, easy-fleshing bull with lots of middle. He’s one of the heaviest bulls in the pen. His two-year-old dam has a beautiful udder and she did an incredible job on him; he weighed just over 1500 lbs. at the end of February. 74L has a full sister that sold to Highway 21 and a full brother that sold to P&H Ranching and Gallelli Charolais. We are very excited about the future of the 74L cow in our herd. The Back Road bull has worked so well, his calves come easy and perform.

WGD SIR BACK ROAD

This bull’s dam goes back to the ONL Smooch 3F cow. Smooch 3F is a favourite around here and for good reason, she looks good and flat out produces time after time. When you look at the dam of this bull, 133L, you can see a lot of the Smooch cow in her. His sire, Back Road, was a previous high seller in this sale and has gone on to work well for Wilgenbusch Charolais and Footprint Farms. 503N is a bull that is bred to calve easy and then put the pounds on. He’s a really impressive bull that the two-year old dam did a heck of a job on.

Another two-year-old cow that has really stepped up to the plate her first year in production. This bull is soft middled, good headed and has a really functional birthweight.

545N is a soft, moderate bull with a nice birthweight. Historic semen has been in high demand and this bull is a great example of why. The dam of this bull has been flushed; she has great feet and a beautiful udder.

HC BLUE ROCK 2406 THRR KAY 7189E THRR KAY 4164B

An embryo full sib to this bull was in our Reserve Champion Pair of Heifer Calves in the Divine Diva’s show at Farmfair, where she was also Champion Senior Heifer Calf. At Olds Fall Classic, she was Reserve Champion in the Purebred Heifer Jackpot. She then sold in Bohrson’s first White Lights Sale to Oakstone Land and Cattle. The mother of this bull, 3F, is an attractive, yet powerfully made female with lots of middle. 535N’s sire, Historic, has commanded a lot of attention in the Charolais breed and his calves have lots of early growth.

ONL SIR RANSOM

Stout, sound, deep bodied, quiet, with a solid set of EPD’s. His full sister, ONL 32J, is the dam of ONL Back Road 35L, a previous high seller that we retained semen on and is the sire of lots 3, 4, 5 and 6. We have flushed 32J, her dam and grandmother, which tells you how highly we think of this cow family. 520N’s dam, 14C, is an 11year-old cow that always raises good ones and holds her condition so well yearround. This cow family consistently produces high quality, easy fleshing progeny that have good dispositions.

We can’t say enough good about the Ransom cattle and how well they have worked for us. This bull is hairy, clean up in through his front end and typey in his design.

WGD SIR LUNATIC 509N

509N is easy on the eyes and probably should have been on the show road last fall. He is soft made, good-headed and really well balanced. It was a good thing his dam was flushed once as we unfortunately lost her. This bull has that show ring look with commercial practicality. Be sure to take a good look at him sale day.

Brigham had a great time being a member in the High Steaks Club last year! He learned lots and had lots of fun! His steer, Frost, was Reserve Champion Carcass Steer. Frost was sired by a bull that we raised and out of a cow from Sheena Jones Livestock. Huge thank you to Innisfail Vet Clinic and Jackson’s Pharmasave for purchasing Brig’s steer!
