Church Ranch Bull Sale - Lethbridge, AB

Page 1

WELCOME

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our 3rd annual spring bull sale. We were overwhelmed and humbled by the success of last year’s sale, especially on a bitterly cold February day. Hopefully Mother Nature will be more cooperative this year!

We had more bull calves in 2024 than the prior year so there’s more bulls in this year’s o ering, and we’re very happy with this group. ey display the soundness, stoutness, depth of rib and easy eshing ability that we strive to produce for our commercial customers. New herd sires Special Mark and Super Duty have crossed very well on our cows and are doing what we expected them to do. We source the best herd sires we can nd and place a very large emphasis on the strength of the mother behind every herd bull we use. Structural soundness, feet, udder quality, e ciency, fertility and longevity are paramount. We strive to maintain a very functional cowherd – the purebreds are run under exactly the same conditions and management as the commercial cows and they need to earn their keep.

Our customers don’t creep feed their calves so neither do we. Never have. Weaning weights are based on grass and momma’s milk. We feel this gives our customers a better indication of how our bulls’ progeny will perform in their conditions. e sale bulls run on grass from June to October. A er that they run in a very large pen where they have to walk a ¼ mile from the feed bunk to water every day. All that exercise is great for their soundness and longevity.

e polled bulls have all been DNA tested and are free of all known genetic conditions, including DB. Homozygous polled bulls are identi ed in their footnotes.

Once again this year, the bulls are being wintered by our good friends, the Sibbald family at Triple S Cattle Company. If you’d like to view the bulls prior to the sale, just give us a call and we’d be delighted to take you through them.

ank you to all of our past buyers and bidders. Your friendship and support of our program means the world to us. We sincerely hope you can join us at Balog’s in Lethbridge on February 17th. Complimentary lunch will be served at 11:30. For those unable to attend in person, internet bidding will be available on DLMS.

Sincerely,

e Church Family

HORNED REFERENCE SIRES

H5 8193 DOMINO 025 1ET

0250 was selected out of the 2021 Harrell Hereford Ranch sale in Oregon for his maternal strength and carcass merit. He had outstanding individual carcass data on ultrasound with a 14 inch ribeye area and 2.48 marbling score. His EPD’s put him in the top 15% of the breed for REA and top 10% for marbling. 0250 appears to be passing this on to his progeny as his sons display extra thickness across the top and great muscle shape. The 0250 sons were the high selling sire group in last year’s sale. 6 SONS SELL.

CARLRAMS 99E SPECIAL MARK 77K

Special Mark was selected out of the 2023 Carlrams sale after being named Grand Champion at the Hardisty Field Day and Junior Bull Calf Champion at the Alberta Hereford Showcase. He’s a big, rugged bull with extra length of body and great feet. His progeny are typically short marked, red necked and red eyed with good hair coats and his quiet temperament. 6 SONS SELL.

HORNED REFERENCE SIRES

SNS 10F SUPER DUTY 11J

Super Duty was the Reserve Grand Champion at the 2023 Calgary Bull Sale where he was the second high seller at $31,000. His calves have as much vigor at birth as any Hereford cattle we’ve ever had – they’re moderate birth weight and just get up and GO and GROW! Super Duty also passes on his extra length of body and depth of rib. 5 SONS SELL.

BR 69D HEAVY HITTER ET 40H

Heavy Hitter was the lead of bull and high seller in Braun’s 2021 sale at $21,000. His dam is a model female backed by generations of Braun’s best cows and has produced multiple sale features and high sellers for them. The 40H sons carry his stoutness, depth of rib and tremendous hair coats. His crop of heifer calves this year may be the best sire group of females ever born on the place. 4 SONS SELL.

Maverick is a really cool bull with a bit of a different pedigree. Out of Super Duty and a cow that we bought as a feature heifer calf out of the Harrell Hereford Ranch production sale in Oregon. Great birth to weaning spread with a very moderate 82 lb birth weight and 748 lb actual WW. Eye appeal with extreme length of body and depth of rib.

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

Hayden’s bull and one of my favorites. Rugged and soggy with 2 goggle eyes, great hair and an outstanding temperament. He’s probably the quietest bull in the entire group. Dam is a really nice Cash is King daughter that goes back to the cow maker 21M and Hayden’s original 29Y cow.

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

Mario is another red necked, goggle eyed Special Mark son with extra growth and length of spine. A big bull with just an 80 lb BW. Maternal granddam 42E is one of our most productive Cash is King daughters – she has an average weaning index of 112 and has raised 5 replacement females including one we showed in Red Deer last year and one working at Little Poplar Grove Herefords.

CHURCH RANCH HORNED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

Morgan is a smooth made 0250 son with a really attractive profile. He has the right build and BW to work on heifers. Dam 35G is one of the deepest ribbed, biggest middled cows on the ranch. A full brother sold to Ron Guenthner in 2024.

Short marked, red necked, red eyed Special Mark son. Granddam 31X was in production until age 14, and produced bulls for Murray Lake Colony, Rob & Lorna Story, Pearson Ranching, Ron Guenthner and Jenkins Lazy U Ranching. If longevity is important to you, take a look here.

Maternal

Montana is the stoutest of the Super Duty sons in the offering. Dam 31E has produced 4 straight sale bulls out of 4 different sires, including the 2023 Calgary Bull Sale Reserve Junior Champion (pictured). One these years I’ll get my act together and get a picture of her!

Maternal Brother - OVM 59J

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

36M is another bull that carries the 0250 stamp. Short marked, red necked, correct and stylish. Dam 56Z is one of our last remaining direct 99R daughters and will have her 12th calf this spring. She has both 21M and old 46E up close in her pedigree.

Dam - Miss Britisher 56Z

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

with a perfect udder. Granddam 61G was just named Grand Champion Mature Cow at the Alberta Hereford Showcase in November. Marksman himself has an incredible birth to yearling spread with just a 74 lb birth weight and 736 lb adj 205 weight. Red to the ground, red neck, red eyes, good hair and great temperament.

CHURCH RANCH HORNED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

Merlin is an 0250 son with a little more stretch and frame. Perfectly marked, smooth made and free moving. Dam 45D is a Yellowstone daughter that goes back to an absolute tank of a cow I purchased out of the Blume dispersal.

rib, great curly hair and two big goggles. Maternal granddam raised a Reserve Junior Champion at Calgary Bull Sale and a Junior Champion at Hardisty Field Day.
Grand Dam - Lass 12X
Grand Dam - Brit 70B

CHURCH RANCH HORNED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

Michelin is a more moderate framed Special Mark son with a nice profile. Granddam 56Z is also the mother of the 36M bull in the sale.

Missile is a fancy bull that carries the typical 0250 stamp – thickness, muscle shape and expression. He goes back to my old 41Y cow on the bottom side of the pedigree; expect all of his daughters to be keepers.

Maternal Grand Sire - Domino 382 1ET Grand Dam - Lass 81D

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

Curve bender bull here – 78 lb BW, 724 lb ajd 205 wt, 111 weaning index. The Super Duty calves are born easy and then GROW. Madrid’s full sister was the People’s Choice winner at the 2025 Genes of the Future Female Sale in Red Deer where she was purchased by Rhett Rude of Oyen. Dam 7H has an average weaning index of 115.

Full Sister to 61M - OVM 12N

CGC 0250 MOLSON 65M

Molson is probably my favorite 0250 son in the sale. He just has that herd bull look and presence to him. He lost his mother early in life and his foster mom didn’t do the greatest job raising him which set him back at weaning, but he’s really come on since. Dam 23D had 6 heifer calves that were all retained as replacements and had an average weaning index of 112.

Maternal Sister to 65M Maternal Grand Sire - Yellowstone 17Y

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

Maximus has the most scale and performance of the Special Mark sons in the sale. He ranked #4 at weaning with a 747 lb adj 205 wt. He’s a power bull but has a really clean, smooth front end and with an 86 lb BW he should sire calves that are born easy and really push the scale down at weaning. Granddam 12X raised 10 calves and put a number of good daughters in the herd. She’s also the grandmother of the 46M bull in the sale.

Majestic ranked #1 at weaning with actual WW of 812 lbs off just grass and his momma’s milk. That’s no surprise as his dam is one of our best. Every calf has been either a sale bull or replacement female. A son was a feature bull in our 2024 sale going to Elkwater Farming.

Dam - Standard Ribstone 53D

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

Mohawk is a really solid Heavy Hitter son that’s super sound and correct in his structure. Much like his sire with a deep bold rib. Grandmother 4B is a full sister to Yellowstone and in our ET program. Dam 85F raised another rip this year that’s at the top of the yearling pen.

This bull has been one of my favorites since birth. He always catches your eye with his thickness and presence. He has as much muscle across his top and down through his hind quarter as any bull in the sale. Dam 33G has an average weaning index of 110. 73M will definitely be going through the ring early on sale day.

Maternal Grand Dam - Ribstone Lass 43D

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

The youngest bull in the sale. I really like Mohican’s phenotype – moderate, stout, with a strong top and lots of muscle shape. He’s very similar to the 81L bull that sold to Copperfield Farms for $19,500 last year. A full brother is working at Clinton & Darryl Brost’s.

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

13J MOUNTAIN MAN ET 162M

In 2022 I was fortunate enough to partner with the good folks at YV Ranch on a flush of my 41Y donor cow to their Sunny Creek 13J bull. 13J was the Calf Champion and High Selling Bull at the 2022 Calgary Bull Sale, going to Carmichael Herefords in South Dakota. If you’re looking for a big bull with some outstanding maternal genetics behind him, have a good look here.

Dam of Lot 22 & 24 - Britisher Lass 41Y

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

Mercury’s dam 38Y is an own daughter of old 99R and our foundation 9U cow. She’s also the mother of 61G, Champion Mature Cow at the Alberta Hereford Showcase and dam of our lead off bull and high seller last year. This is hands down out best cow family.

Majestic is another product of the 13J x 41Y flush. He’s going to mature into a big bull and the udders on his daughters should be second to none.

CHURCH RANCH HORNED

One word sums up Megawatt – ROUND. Round from the side, round from behind. 286M is the only direct Cash is King son in the offering. His dam 4B is a full sister to Yellowstone. Megawatt is a full brother to the Hell on Wheels herd sire working at Rutledge Herefords and Bar B Ranch. He’s also in the top 10% of the breed for both RFI and Carcass Weight – those are the type of cattle that make money in the feedlot.

Sire - Cash Is King 140C

POLLED REFERENCE SIRES

MCCOY 147E COMPASS ET 31H

Compass is the most consistent polled bull we’ve used so far and his progeny are the best sire group we’ve raised. They’re also the quietest polled cattle we’ve owned. He stamps all his progeny the same. The bulls are stout, deep ribbed, thick and well marked. The daughters are broody with lots of middle and capacity and great udders – we calved out the first group last spring and they’re everything we hoped for. 4 SONS SELL

ILK REWIND 23J

Rewind is a paternal half brother to Compass that we purchased from Jon McKenzie to use as a walking sire after AI. He was selected for his combination of phenotype, performance and an outstanding mother cow behind him.

3 SONS SELL.

Sire of 23J and 31H - Rewind 147E

Dam - Susie 26W

CHURCH RANCH POLLED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

CHURCH RANCH POLLED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

50M is another stout, well muscled Compass son. Dam was selected out of the Harvie Dispersal for her foot and udder quality and has a son working at Jones Valleyview Ranches. 50M is in the top 5% of the breed for WW, YW and Post Weaning Gain EPD. HOMO POLLED

Compass 31H sure stamps all his progeny the same. Malibu is no different – long and stout, stout, stout. Maternal granddam 64W has 19 registered progeny and is the mother of McCoy’s Skyfall herdsire. HOMO POLLED

MALIBU 51M

CHURCH RANCH POLLED TWO-YEAR-OLDS

Herd bull alert! Maui Jim is as good as any polled bull we’ve ever raised. He checks all the boxes – moderate birth, great performance, outstanding phenotype, perfectly marked, good hair and out of a really solid cow. A maternal brother sold in last year’s sale to Klassen Ranching. HOMO POLLED

Maternal Grand Sire - Justice 18A

Milestone is another top herd sire candidate. Every thing it says in the footnote for 77M applies equally to this bull. They’re like two peas in a pod. It’ll be a coin flip as to which one leads off the polled section of the sale. HOMO POLLED
