2025 SALE HIGHLIGHTS

LOT 18 - HUXLEY

Welcome

to our Annual Forage-Developed Bull Sale

Welcome to our Two Year Old Angus Bull Sale and thank you for your interest in the genetics we bring forward every year. Over the course of 76 years registering purebred cattle, we have been developing and marketing 2-Year-Old bulls exclusively. Within that time our philosophy to breeding cattle really hasn’t changed: avoid any shot-gun approach to genetic selection, avoid chasing fads, and remain steadfast in maternal propagation.

As cattle producers, we all have access to the same genetics annually. We have focused on stacking proven genetics that fit a desired phenotype; while allowing the environment to sort through the genetic base we have, or have accessed, in order to determine the replacements we keep and the bulls we sell. This has resulted in a multi-generational product that breed true and offers more intrinsic value.

Over the past few years, we have had an added focus on docility and growth, and the results are positively reflected in this sale offering.

The extreme uniformity we have within the cow herd has enabled using some different sires to achieve those goals, while maintaining the same

consistent phenotype. We were using the term “maternal” long before it became cool; and this sale offering averages in the top 15% of the breed for Teat, Udder and Functional Longevity Epd’s.

The ability to build the right kind of mother cow is deeply imprinted in this sale offering.

Breeding cattle that make a difference is an art and a long term play. We recommend that before you buy a bull anywhere, familiarize yourself with their cowherd, their breeding objectives, and their long-term philosophy. Epigenetics indicates you inherit the management as much as the actual genetics from where you source your herd sires.

The genetics on offer will be resilient with real world expectations.

We own and walk every sire represented in the sale, as well as the females. The sale offering represents a cross section of proven genetics with a high percentage being calving ease bulls suitable for heifers or cows. The bull offering is uniform and consistent – quality sells throughout.

Some of the best cattle come from the most underrated herds and invite you to evaluate the offering on or before Thursday, March 13th.

• Selected as one of the high selling bulls in the 2021 Sitz Spring Bull Sale, 712 offers a fresh pedigree for many customers.

• 712 breeds true Bonsma type. Masculine fronted sons and wedge shaped daughters.

• Breed leading maternal profile with Teat, Udder and Functional Longevity EPD’s in the top 4%, 1% and 9% respectively. Backed by two consecutive generations of Pathfinder dams.

• Breed leading maternal profile with Teat, Udder and Functional Longevity EPD’s in the top 20%, 5% and 1% respectively.

• Carries forward the Payweight depth of body, the added Rito performance, and the Emblazon do-ability.

• Now at the age of 15, his dam has earned donor status after earning a progeny weaning and yearling record of 109 and 108 respectively on her first 11 calves. Maternal grand dam, 239M, entered the embryo facility at the age of 16 after earning a NR 13/104 and produced until age 19.

2026

• Selected as a crowd favorite from the 2022 Redland Angus bull sale in Wyoming.

• Typical of the OCC downline, 570 is a very easy fleshing bull. He is moderate in frame but very long made with a tremendous amount of overall body mass. He has a big deep square butt and stands down square. His sons emulate his forage-efficient look with that classic Angus head, wide muzzle, added docility and deep chest capacity. Has been used on cows but mainly on heifers.

• The dam of 570 is a big volume, feminine fronted female with a strong udder attachment.

2026

• Selected as the feature fall-born bull in the 2022 Spring Cove Bull Sale in Idaho for his combination of calving ease and documented carcass merit.

• Maternal brother is ABS Global calving ease sire Spring Cove Crossbow.

• Donor dam is just how we like them with longevity and productivity, posting a WR 6/108 and YR 6/108 respectively.

• First service progeny have risen to the top exhibiting the expected calving ease phenotype coupled with an unexpected growth profile that competes with all sire groups.

CHAPMAN ROBUST 0816

• Not a lot of mystery in the history of 0816’s pedigree as he stems from a long line of brilliant uddered ancestors: Robust’s dam and granddam had show ring udder structure well into their career, plus 2413Z and 968W uddered up as good as it gets. Plus the extensive proof the Joker and Equation females earned. The young females sired by 0816 validate where he and his sons strength is. Tattoo: SWC

• 36K’s dam is a perennial factory of sale bulls near the top for performance, and comes from a long line of productive females, with the great granddam being our prolific Lady Erica 8984. Add in Rose 1019 and it is no coincidence his maternal EPD profile is near the top of the breed.

• Co-owned with Golden Oak Livestock.

• Selected as a sale feature and 3rd high selling bull in the 2020 Crescent Creek Bull Sale.

• Dam earned a progeny weaning ratio of NR 12/104 and raised 8H as a 13-year-old cow.

• A former $60,000 bull from U2 to Allison Farms, we picked Reckless up as a proven aged bull to restart our Red Angus division.

• These black/red carrier sons of Reckless are out of our most proven and aged cows, including the mother to our 2025 high selling bull to McCumber. They are loaded maternally with cows that are still producing well into their teens.

• Ideally these would have been heifers, but these sons are cocky and offer a unique and fresh pedigree either side of the aisle.

EPD EXPLANATION

EPD’s are predictions on how each bull rates against his own contemporary group and the rest of the breed. EPD’s evaluate group averages and offspring’s performance, however they cannot predict individual performance or weights.

For example, if Bull A (WW EPD of +10) & Bull B (WW of +60) were randomly mated with 10 similar cows, we would expect the group avg. weaning weight of Bull A’s offspring to be 50 lbs. lighter than Bull B’s (60 - 10 = 50).

BW Birth Weight - expressed in pounds, is a prediction of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny

WW Weaning Weight - expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny

YW Yearling Weight - expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny.

MILK A predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters

CE Calving Ease Direct (CE), is expressed as a differencein percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

MCE Maternal Calving Ease (MCE) is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in firstcalf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires.

TEAT Teat Size EPD (Teat), expressed in units of teat size score, with a higher EPD indicating a sire will produce daughters with smaller teat size compared to that of other sires’ daughters. Our 2026 Reference Sires combined represent the top 15% of the breed for this trait with an average Teat EPD of 0.67. Breed Average TEAT EPD is 0.56@ 50thpercentile.

UDDR Udder Suspension EPD (UDDR), expressed in units of udder suspension score, with a higher EPD indicating a sire will produce daughters with tighter udder suspension compared to that of other sires’ daughters. Our 2026 Reference Sires combined represent the top 15% of the breed for this trait with an average UDDR EPD of 0.66. Breed average UDDR EPD is 0.55@ 50thpercentile

FL Functional Longevity EPD (FL), expressed in number of calves, is a predictor of the number of calves a sire’s daughters are predicted to produce by 6 years of age compared to that of other sires’ daughters. A higherEPD is the more favorable direction indicating more calves produced on average. The 2026 Sale Bull offering, as a group, has an FL EPD of1.07, which represents the top 15% of the breedfor this trait.Breed average is 1.02@ 50thpercentile.
