Welcome to the 4th Annual Boys of Windy Knoll Online Bull Sale!

Every year brings new lessons in the cattle business, and this past season was no exception. The drought in the Annapolis Valley tested feed supplies and pasture management, yet it also highlighted the strength of good cattle and disciplined programs. At the same time, a soaring beef market has created real optimism and opportunity for producers focused on quality and performance.

Over those years we’ve learned that consistency, cow power, and sound fundamentals are what stand the test of time. We feel fortunate to build our program in an industry we’re deeply passionate about, surrounded by progressive breeders and loyal customers. Throughout that time, we’ve had the privilege of selling bulls to commercial and purebred operations across Canada, into the U.S., and even into Mexico — something we’re very proud of as a Maritime-based program.

We truly live and breathe this business. Many of our holidays are spent touring cattle, attending shows, and searching for the genetics we need to keep moving our program forward, sourcing from respected operations across the country. We’ve invested heavily in elite cow families, embryos, and herd sires that align with the future of the beef industry and the profitability of our customers.

We’re leading off with a pair of maternal brothers with stacked pedigrees of donors that represent the direction of our program and the strength of our cow families. Backed by our exciting young donor RF Ms Deva 392, these bulls stem from a cow that combines body, udder quality, and production value — the kind that earns a spot in the donor pen early.

Broda 63N, aka “Ponyboy,” or better known around the farm as “Pony,” has been a favourite since day one and is a bull we believe has a very bright future. Sired by WKF Winchester — our high seller in the second annual bull sale to Walsh Farms —, he combines extra hair, shape, and natural muscle with a big hip and a true herd bull look. He’s extremely docile, moves like a cat, and carries that undeniable show ring presence. He didn’t get the smoothest start and took some time to find a recip to take him on, but you sure wouldn’t ever guess that as he pushed the scale down at weaning the beginning of September at 1030 lbs! The more he matures, the more we love him and want to keep him. Broda 63N is a standout baldie that’s built to add value and pounds to his calf crops, and one that could be a lot of fun to campaign in the show ring come fall.

WKF THUNDER 57N

Thunder 57N, sired by RF No Limits, comes in a homo polled, black package and commands a second look when you come in the pen. He’s built right from the ground up with a strong hip, excellent foot quality, and a smooth, balanced design. Sound, correct, and athletic in his movement, he covers ground with ease while still carrying shape and dimension. Teamed up with Broda 63N, the pair earned the Pair of Bulls title at Expo Boeuf in Victoriaville, adding a show ring stamp to the quality and consistency behind this bull. These brothers represent the kind we strive to produce — practical, good footed, docile bulls with eye appeal and maternal backing. Quid 38N is the kind that stops you in your tracks to admire and might just be our favourite in the pen.  He’s a deep sided, stout topped, awesome haired bull with the muscle shape and dimension to add pounds where it pays. He comes in a homo black and polled package and stands on a strong foot with the structural integrity to cover cows and last for years. His pedigree is stacked, blending calving ease with real-world performance. His first calf Caliber dam stems from one of our favourite cow families and has matured into a beautiful young cow with a tremendous udder. The strength of this family is proven, with two full sisters already selling through our female sale to Maxwell Simmentals and Kingswood Simmentals. If you’re looking to add shape, depth, and marketability to a calf crop while building a set of females that last, Quid 38N fits the bill. And for those who enjoy the show ring, he’s the kind of bull that could make a serious run at banners come fall.

WKF CORNERSTONE 23N

Cornerstone 23N is a true herd bull in the making. He’s a homo polled and homo black standout that combines power, presence, and real-world functionality. Bold ribbed, deep sided, and built with genuine muscle expression, he carries the herd bull look from every angle. His smooth shoulder, level top, and square hip tie it all together for a fault-free package. Backed by another proven, no-miss cow family, his dam, RF Flirt 034H, was a standout purchase who has matured into a bigbodied, beautiful uddered brood cow with real presence and production power. We’re excited to finally be blessed with a female out of this mating and have a standout full sibling in the replacement pen this year! Shameless 48N is a rugged made and the biggest framed bull in the offering that checks a lot of boxes. Big bodied, stout hipped, and loaded with hair, he carries the herd bull look and presence that gets noticed. The only son from this mating to the great RF Flirt 824F, a donor we lost too soon but one that left a real legacy here. Big bodied, beautiful uddered, and consistent, she stamped her calves with shape, extra length, and natural thickness. Her sons go out and work, and her daughters have all been retained here and are now proving themselves in production.

Gary 50N is a moderate framed, hairy son of WKF Slug that’s built the right way. Stout made, big middled, and easy keeping, he’s the kind that works in the real world and holds his condition. He carries that natural thickness and softness that Slug stamps into his calves. He’s the natural son out of our donor RF Flirt 034H, a female that has done a lot right here. Big bodied, strong uddered, and consistent, she’s proven to be a no-miss producer with sons that sell well and daughters we’re proud to keep. Her influence continues to show through in the quality and uniformity of her calves. If you’re looking for a practical, hairy bull backed by a strong cow family, Gary 50N is worth a look.

WKF REDEMPTION 98N

Here we have two moderate framed full brothers that are very similar in kind, both bulls are bold ribbed, deep bodied, and wide topped with the herd bull presence look. They carry muscle shape and natural thickness from end to end while maintaining sound structure and fluid movement. They’re backed by our favourite red, no miss 5th generation donor, Flirt 24J — a female that has risen to cornerstone status in our program. The maternal strength runs deep here, loaded with udder quality, longevity, and a proven track record for producing high sellers and banner winners. Progeny from Flirt 24J have sold to RanMar, Walsh Farms, Riverside Genetics, and Triple Ace Farms Inc., further validating the consistency and marketability of this cow family. Redemption 98N is a March 1st born meat machine and the heavyweight of the bull pen, posting an impressive 1035 lb weaning weight at the beginning of September. He’s proven his ability to push the scale down while still maintaining balance and shape. Reckless 71N comes in an eye catching black chrome package. Raised on a recip that didn’t do him many favours early on, he exploded after weaning and hasn’t looked back since. Whether you sell calves by the pound or retain females, these brothers offer the maternal strength and performance to move a program forward!

824F

Bullseye 85N and Buckshot 94N are a stout pair of end-of-February full brothers we think a lot of. They are stamped with the same kind of mass, hair, and herd bull presence that have made their brothers sought-after by progressive programs. Full brothers have gone on to work for Walsh Farms, Ranch Macandi ENR, and Guillaume Paradis. They’re backed by RF Flirt 824F, a donor female we lost too soon but one that sure left a huge mark here. Big bodied, beautiful uddered, and a cow that consistently stamped her calves with shape, length, and hair. Her sons have gone out and produced tremendous calf crops and daughters are the kind you keep and build a herd around. We’ve had success with using full brothers WKF Winchester and WKF Slug, and the consistency shows, with sons from both bulls selling in this sale as well. Although we haven’t been blessed with many heifers out of her, her sons have gone out to work in progressive programs including JM Larsen Farms Inc. and Ran Mar Farms, with two selling in this offering. When touring at Dusty Rose Cattle Co this summer, we saw a phenomenal set of sons and daughters out of her that they had purchased as embryos from our female sale. This donor keeps popping up in our sale offerings because we know she flat out works no matter which way she’s mated. Dirty Secret 34F is an exciting direct daughter of our most productive matriarch, Windy Knoll Doris 43U — a cornerstone female in our Fullblood program who remained in production and was still being flushed at 17 years of age. Like her dam, 34F is bold ribbed, soggy made, and stout through her center third, but comes in a more moderate and attractive package.

She traces back to the very heart of our program through foundation female Melvern Ms Lad 39D and a stacked lineage of big bodied, sound footed, highly productive cows that have stood the test of time. The Doris cow family has done it right here — producing highly marketable herd bulls while earning a spot in our replacement pen year after year, as we’ve retained nearly every female out of this line. After seeing the success of mating Doris 43U to SBV Reputation, it was an easy decision to flush this standout daughter the same way. Mated to the $165,000 Polled Full Fleck SBV Reputation 707F — a sire that continues to stamp his calves with muscle shape, hair, and presence — this mating will result in a dark, stout, goggle-eyed progeny built with longevity and consistency in mind.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DLMS FARM GATE TIMED AUCTION

1. Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Following the sale the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a racehorse style sale close? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

How will extended bidding work? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
