Welcome to the Autumn Prospects Open Heifer Sale Vol. II. This year has been different in that we have saw more rain in June than we did in the 2 previous years. The cows have enjoyed plenty of grass, and in most parts of the country the crops are plentiful. We also took the year off from showing and enjoyed the chance to attend Expo Boeuf, Farmfair International and Canadian Western Agribition. Wonderful days spent visiting with breeders across the country. 2026 calving brought a large number of heifer calves again, affording us the opportunity to share some of these genetics with you. We don’t part with many females, believing in the building of our herd through strong cow families. Over 42 years of breeding Simmental have gone into the development of these females. We are excited with the calves from our new sires - RJY Magnum 29M, RJY Preacher 12M, Mitchells Sochi 248M. Some our best moments this year were the interactions with youth at the junior shows and our Rising Stars Clinic & Show. We will host the 5th Rising Stars Clinic & Junior Show March 26 - 28, 2027. This event has seen over 150 youth strive to be better and fuel their passion of learning new skills. It is so exciting to see their improvements and spend time with them. The heifers have been weaned since the end of August. This year they will come to you halter broke, but still in a natural and honest presentation. We wish everyone who purchases an animal the very best and we are only a phone call away from supporting you with their development. We would be glad to show you the offering prior to the sale or discuss them with you over a phone call.

The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, etransfer, payable at par at the sale location or via highcountrycattle@gmail.com. All females are healthy and under the management of High Country Cattle. They are all up to date on their vaccination program. We stand behind the offering and guarantee that they are breeders, unless flushing occurs before 1st calf or the females are grossly over conditioned which we feel has a negative impact on fertility. Payment for cattle must occur before animals depart from High Country Cattle.

If you are unable to view the cattle prior to the sale or require assistance in your selection, feel free to call Rob to discuss the offering. Upon knowing your needs we can suggest the heifer to fit your program. Your satisfaction is our priority.

The US exchange rate will be indicated on DLMS Farmgate sale day. All animals will be sold in Canadian funds. Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold, we encourage the purchase of insurance. A registration certificate will be duly transferred to the purchaser. We have experience with getting cattle to the US. Please contact us prior to the sale to discuss the details. At time of printing US Exchange Rate is approximately $1000 USD = $1300 CAN

DELIVERY

PHOTOGRAPHY / VIDEOS

High Country Cattle will deliver within 250km at the convenience of the seller, and the buyer's risk. Any animals going to other areas, trucking will be arranged by High Country Cattle at cost. Females sold to the US, we will assist in the process. We would like all animals picked-up /delivered by November 30, 2026

H O W T O PA R T I C I PAT E I N T H E D L M S FA R M GAT E T I M E D AU CT I O N W I T H E X T E N D E D B I D D I N G : 1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots, or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. 2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. 3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. 4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 7:00 pm MST will extend the sale by 5 minutes.. When no bidding occurs for 5 minutes the computer will declare the sale finished. 5. Following the sale High Country Cattle will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases. Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding. HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

Where to start. We tried for several years to purchase a Sandeen Donna 8302 daughter. In 2023 we found Donna 1640. Together we purchased her with Bear Creek Farms. She has not disappointed. We sure are glad we found her before the whole Simmental breed noticed the value of the 8302 cow family. In the words of Scott Sandeen - “Donna 8302 is s a cow that just refuses to be outdone. Every year I think she can’t produce something better than she did the year before, yet every year she just seems to grab another gear. She’s surpassed the $2 million mark in lifetime earnings, which is a feat that very few cows (of any breed) throughout history have accomplished. Her most recent achievement was from a embryo purchased by Black Gold Simmentals in Canada, that resulted in a tremendous heifer that they marketed to the tune of $95,000 to LaBatte Simmentals.” Add in the maternal strength and outcross pedigree of Merit and the possibilities are endless on this one.

As we have stated before, our program is all about cow families. Pocahontis 36P goes back to one of our foundation Spartan females RJY 47D. Copperhead was purchased to cross with the Spartan daughters. Sure do like it when a plan comes together. Spartan may have been a bull before his time. Many are realizing his outcross value to the breed. Longevity in the Spartan line with him breeding until age 12. The first Law & Order daughters have calved and are making great uddered, productive cows.

There are great days in raising cattle and their are some real bad days. When the first calves of Preacher were born this spring, those were some great days. When we lost Preacher in a freak accident 3 weeks before breeding that was one of the bad days. The calves that he left us have excelled from birth. RJY Komotion 54P is a special one. Backed by a great young cow whos heifer in the 2025 sale sold to Becker Farms. Blaire did a fantastic job showing her and can’t wait to see the cow she makes for her.
