Foundation Honors Bishop Malone, Dr. Buckley and Dr. Repicci

During its annual A Tribute to Angels event on Friday November 18 at Salvatore’s Italian Garden, the Kenmore Mercy Foundation recognized several individuals whose dedication to the hospital and the community has been extraordinary. This year’s honorees were Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, Bishop of Buffalo, and surgeons Richard Buckley, Jr. MD, FACS, and John A. Repicci, DDS, MD. Bishop Malone and Dr. Buckley received the Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award. Dr. Repicci received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award was established in 1980 by the Kenmore Mercy Foundation. The award honors outstanding individuals in the community who have demonstrated a dedication to community service, visionary leadership, excellence in medical care and the ideals of unselfish service towards others – qualities exemplified by Sister Mary Mechtilde O’Connor, RSM, foundress and first administrator of Kenmore Mercy. President & CEO James Millard presented the Lifetime Achievement Award Dr. John Repicci, here with his wife, Lorey.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was created in 2008 to honor past recipients of the Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award who continue to remain active and supportive of the Foundation, the hospital and our community today. The presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to individuals whose years of unwavering spirit and determination continue to benefit our hospital and our community.
Staff Education Grants
Isolation Carts Funded by Foundation Kenmore Mercy Foundation recently funded twenty isolation carts to be used throughout the hospital. In the hospital, isolation precautions are used to help stop the spread of germs from one person to another.
The goal is to protect patients, their families, other visitors, and healthcare workers—and stop germs from spreading across a healthcare setting. Theses carts are used to store supplies to wear before entering a patient room that requires preventative infection control measures. The cart is placed outside the patient’s room.

Associates enhanced their knowledge of pressure ulcers.
Foundation Education Grants Help Improve Patient Care Everyday Kenmore Mercy Hospital demonstrates its commitment to the delivery of quality patient care.
Pressure ulcer prevention and treatment is considered an important indicator of quality patient care. Catholic Health sponsored Pressure Ulcer Education Day - an all day work shop class for nurses, physical therapists, nursing assistants, managers and doctors interested in advancing their clinical skills in this area.
Thanks to the generous support of the Kenmore Mercy Foundation, sixteen Kenmore Mercy Hospital patient care professionals were able to attend this program. The speaker for this program was a Joyce Black, PhD, RN, CWCN, FAAN. Dr. Black presents internationally and is a widely respected speaker for the care and prevention of pressure ulcers.
In addition, the Kenmore Mercy Hospital Foundation purchased a “Seymour Butt” for the education and wound care departments.
Seymour is a model depicting life-like ulcers to teach pressure ulcer staging, treatment, measuring and correct anatomical landmarks.
