Expanding Hope and Healing: Behavioral Health Services Now Available via Telehealth Across the Diocese
Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice is taking a bold step forward in providing vital care for our community. Behavioral health counseling, already a cornerstone of our mission, is now available through telehealth services across all ten counties of the Diocese. This expansion makes compassionate, professional care accessible to anyone, whether they live in a rural area, face transportation challenges, or simply feel more comfortable receiving support from home.
Why Behavioral Health Matters
G iving Is Easy
Your generous donation to Summertime and the Giving is Easy is much appreciated. Your contribution will protect, nourish, heal, and help so many of your neighbors in need in Southwest Florida. Thank You for being an ANGEL during difficult times and helping to change the lives of those who come to Catholic Charities for assistance.
Mental and emotional well-being touches every part of our lives. Struggles with depression, anxiety, grief, or stress are not signs of weakness, they are part of the human condition. Left untreated, however, these challenges can impact physical health, relationships, and even the health of entire communities.
Behavioral health counseling can help individuals address a wide range of concerns, including:
These are real challenges faced by people every day, like neighbors, co-workers, parishioners, and even ourselves. Seeking help is not only courageous but an important step toward healing and wholeness.
“When people care for their mental health, they often discover renewed strength in every part of their lives, physically, spiritually, and emotionally,” shares Erika Piñeros, Director of Behavioral Health for Catholic Charities.
• Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or loss
• Anxiety, worry, or panic
• Grief after the loss of a loved one
• Relationship struggles or family conflict
• Difficulty managing stress from work or caregiving
• Loneliness or isolation
• Coping with major life changes
• Trauma or post-traumatic stress
• Substance use or unhealthy coping mechanisms
The Link Between Mind, Body, and Community Experts have long recognized the powerful connection between mental health and physical health. Stress, anxiety, and depression can contribute to physical illness, while chronic illness often worsens emotional struggles. Addressing behavioral health needs can reduce doctor visits, improve recovery, and even extend life expectancy. But the impact goes far beyond the individual. When people feel supported and cared for:
• Families experience healthier relationships
• Workplaces become more productive
• Communities grow stronger and more resilient
In this way, behavioral health care is truly a form of community health care. As people heal and find new strength, they are better able to contribute, connect, and thrive. (Expanding
What is the connection between an elegant gala and a family with a heart for service?
At Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice, the answer is simple: Barbara and Joseph Siniscalchi. Their story is one of generosity, leadership, and faith in action, reminding us that goodness is always alive in our community.
Splitting their time between Naples and Long Island, the Siniscalchis are deeply engaged in their parish life. At St. Agnes in Naples, they serve as Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. On Long Island, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Centerport, they also serve as Lectors and EMEs while supporting the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative and the Helping Hand Rescue Mission.
Here in Southwest Florida, their impact is perhaps most visible through the Emerald Ball. Barbara is now in her fourth year as Chair, guiding a team of volunteers to create an evening that is both beautiful and profoundly meaningful. Under her steady leadership, the Emerald Ball has grown into a vital source of support for programs that feed the hungry, shelter families, and provide counseling and hope across our ten-county region. Those who have worked alongside her describe a leader who listens first, brings people together, and always keeps the mission at the center of every decision.
Joseph is a quiet force behind the scenes. His thoughtful counsel, generous spirit, and practical approach help turn vision into results. Whether it is encouraging a new sponsor, welcoming a first-time guest, or simply pitching in where help is needed, Joseph’s steady presence makes a difference. Beyond the Ball, Joseph also serves as Chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Scholarship Committee for the Catholic Community Foundation, ensuring that resources and opportunities are stewarded with care.
Together, Barbara and Joseph embody faith in practice. Their service is not about the spotlight but about creating ripples of mercy that reach far beyond one night of celebration. Each ticket, sponsorship, and volunteer hour at the Emerald Ball becomes a lifeline for someone facing hardship.
“We have always believed that blessings are meant to be shared,” Barbara says. “Working with Catholic Charities has
shown us how generosity, offered with love, can restore dignity and open doors for our neighbors.”
We warmly invite you to join Barbara and Joseph, along with friends and supporters of Catholic Charities, at this year’s Emerald Ball on Saturday, March 14, at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, Tiburón. Together, we can celebrate faith, fellowship, and the joy of giving—while making a lasting difference for those most in need.

Why Telehealth Makes a Difference
For many, accessing behavioral health services has not always been easy. Transportation, distance, and work schedules can make it difficult to attend regular appointments. Others may feel uncomfortable walking into a counseling center in their own town.
Telehealth changes all of that. With a computer, tablet, or even a smartphone, clients can connect confidentially with licensed Catholic Charities counselors from the privacy of their own home. Appointments are secure, flexible, and designed to meet clients where they are.
Erika Piñeros explains:
“Telehealth allows us to serve more people than ever before, especially those who might otherwise go without care. We are breaking down barriers and reminding our community that no one has to struggle alone.”
How to Access Services
Behavioral health telehealth appointments are available now
throughout the Diocese. Services are offered in both English and Spanish, and Catholic Charities works to ensure care is affordable, with options for sliding-scale fees. If you or someone you love is facing challenges with mental health, we invite you to reach out today. Hope and healing are just a phone call—or a click—away.
Closing Note
As Catholic Charities expands its outreach, we remain guided by the belief that every person deserves dignity, care, and compassion. Telehealth is not just technology, it is a tool for mercy, a bridge to healing, and a way to ensure that no one is left behind.

Back to School at Catholic Charities Children’s Center
in Fort Myers (formerly the AFCAAM Center), it also brings hope. After a joyful summer of camp filled with learning, laughter, and friendship, the Center is once again welcoming students back into its after-school and youth development programs.
Building Brighter Futures
The Children’s Center is more than a place to go after school. It is a safe haven where young people can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. Programs include:
• Homework help and tutoring to keep students on track in the classroom
• Literacy initiatives that build confidence and reading skills
• STEM projects that spark curiosity and problem-solving
• Mentorship opportunities that connect children with caring role models
• Recreational and enrichment activities that encourage teamwork and healthy development
opportunity to succeed.
A Record of Accomplishment
Over the years, the Children’s Center has supported hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to become the first in their families to attend college. The impact is measurable:
• Rising literacy and math scores among program participants
• High school graduations that lead to college enrollment and career success
• Alumni who return to the Center as volunteers and mentors, inspiring the next generation
These accomplishments are not just statistics, they are life-changing outcomes made possible by a community that invests in its youth.
All Souls Day Prayer
A Time to Remember and Pray
On November 2, the Church celebrates All Souls Day, a sacred time set aside to remember and pray for all the faithful departed. Rooted in the belief that life does not end with death but is transformed in Christ, this day invites us to lift our hearts in prayer for loved ones who have gone before us.
Catholics believe that our prayers, sacrifices, and acts of mercy can assist the souls of the departed as they are purified and prepared to see God face to face. Visiting cemeteries, lighting candles, and offering Mass intentions are beautiful traditions that unite us with the Communion of Saints and remind us of the hope we share in the Resurrection.
November 2
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
Join us at Mass on All Souls Day or light a candle in remembrance of your loved ones. Together, we honor their memory and place our hope in the promise of eternal life and find peace in the Communion of Saints.
Why Your Support Matters
The Children’s Center stands as a powerful example of Catholic Charities’ mission to serve and uplift. For many families in Fort Myers, it is the difference between a child falling behind and a child flourishing. Donor generosity ensures that every student has access to a safe environment, strong academic support, and caring mentors who believe in them.
“When you give to the Children’s Center, you are not just supporting after-school programs, you are investing in a child’s future, strengthening families, and building a healthier community,” says Taunya Cola, Program Coordinator for the Children’s Center
Join Us in Making a Difference
As the school year begins, Catholic Charities invites you to partner with us in continuing this legacy of impact. Together, we can give children the tools to succeed in school, the confidence to pursue their dreams, and the foundation to become leaders in our community.

Dear Friends,
As we enter the fall season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. Because of your generosity and prayers, we are making meaningful strides in restoring hope and dignity across Southwest Florida, and we are blessed to share this good work through the love of God.
Our work in housing remains a vital part of our mission. Families displaced by Hurricane Ian are finally returning to safe, stable homes—many thanks to our leadership in the Lee County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG). With the support of public and private partners, we’ve helped hundreds of families rebuild, providing critical repairs, new home construction, and accessibility upgrades.
We also continue to expand our behavioral health services to address the growing mental health needs in our communities. From children struggling with trauma to seniors facing isolation and loss, our licensed counselors are providing healing and hope through accessible, compassionate care.
Catholic Charities has welcomed several new team members this year, bringing fresh energy and talent to our programs. Their dedication strengthens our ability to meet people where they are and walk alongside them on their journey to stability and self-sufficiency.
This fall, we will publish our 2025 Annual Report, offering a deeper look at our programs, outcomes, and the lives touched by your generosity. I hope you’ll take time to read it and see the impact you help make possible.
Whether you’ve been with us for years or are new to our mission, I encourage you to stay connected. If you have any questions, would like to learn more, or want to schedule a visit to one of our facilities, I would be honored to speak with you personally.
Thank you for walking with us in faith and service.
With gratitude,
Chris Root Chief Executive Officer Catholic Charities, Diocese
of Venice, Inc.
As a non-profit Catholic Charities is always looking for ways to reduce our costs. If you are interested in receiving this newsletter digitally instead of in the mail, please email info@catholiccharitiesdov.org to update your preferences. WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT!
A SEASON OF THANKS
As the fall season reminds us to pause in gratitude, Catholic Charities extends heartfelt thanks to you—our friends, supporters, and partners in mission. Your generosity is more than a gift; it is an act of mercy that feeds the hungry, shelters families, counsels the hurting, and uplifts our neighbors with dignity and love.
Every day, your support comes alive in the smiles of children learning in our after-school programs, in families who gather around a warm meal, and in individuals who find comfort through counseling and community. These moments are possible because of you.
We would love to share more of this mission with you. If you would like to learn more about the work of Catholic Charities or see your support in action, we warmly invite you to visit us. Come tour one of our centers, meet the people whose lives you are changing, and witness firsthand how faith and compassion are transforming our communities.
Your presence and continued prayers strengthen this mission. Together, we are living the Gospel call to love and serve. Thank you for walking alongside us.

Create Your Catholic Legacy
Together, we can build a future where no one is forgotten. Leave a gift. Leave a legacy of compassion.
When you leave a legacy gift to the Catholic Charities Legacy Fund, you ensure that your compassion continues to touch lives long into the future. Your legacy becomes a lifeline for families in crisis, the hungry, the homeless, and the vulnerable—those who rely on Catholic Charities’ mission of mercy and justice within the Diocese of Venice in Florida.
The Catholic Charities Legacy Fund provides long-term financial stability since the principal is invested, and a percentage of the earnings are used to provide a reliable annual source of revenue to Catholic Charities for generations to come.
A legacy gift is more than a financial decision; it’s a reflection of your faith and your desire to uplift others. Whether through a bequest, trust, or beneficiary designation, your generosity helps Catholic Charities respond to urgent needs with dignity, hope, and love.
If you have already left Catholic Charities in your will or trust, or named us as a beneficiary, please let us know so we can enroll you in our Good Samaritan Guild. As a member, you will be included in the monthly Masses said for our Guild members.
