At this critical moment, an anonymous family stepped forward—living out Christ’s call to care for those in need by providing the resources to help the Martinez family turn their dream into reality. The donor’s only request was simple: that prayers be offered for all who will one day benefit from the fruits of their labor. In a beautiful act of gratitude, the Martinez family donated part of their first harvest to their local Catholic Charities food pantry in Winston-Salem, sharing their blessing with others in need. When families like Grace’s face a sudden crisis, even a short period of support can make all the difference.
As the need for burial assistance has grown and costs rise, the Piedmont Triad office recently found its burial budget fully depleted. Yet the need had not stopped.
brain tumor. After her sister’s death, Carolina feared she would not be able to lay her sister to rest with dignity. She had lost her income, and the insurance policy would not cover the full cost.
Because of your compassion and your readiness to respond in moments of urgency, Grace and her two children were given a safe place to stay — time to breathe, regroup, and take the next step forward.
Thankfully, because of the Kathleen A. Troy Memorial Endowment Fund, help was still possible.
Around the same time, Kathy, a daughter still recovering from a serious accident and unable to return to work full-time, faced the sudden loss of her father, Adam. Already in a difficult financial situation, she was overwhelmed by the cost of laying her father to rest and unsure how to move forward.
Because of your compassion, families are finding stability, dignity is being restored, and lives are moving forward. In this issue, you’ll meet families building a more secure future, neighbors who found safety in a moment of crisis, and loved ones who were laid to rest with care and dignity. These are not just stories of help—they are signs of Christ’s love in action. I am especially grateful to the more than 500 of you who joined us for Partners in Hope in March. Your presence was a powerful reminder of what is possible when a community comes together to serve. Yet, the need continues. Many in our community are still seeking stability, healing, and a path forward. Through your prayers and faithful generosity, you are helping make that path possible.
Because of you, there was a safe place to rest—and a chance to begin again.
Thanks to a one-month stay at a hotel, she was able to continue working and begin saving for a new apartment. The Gospel calls us to welcome those in need and offer shelter to those without it. Thank you for answering that call with your generous heart. This is what your kindness makes possible: meeting urgent needs with compassion and helping families move forward with renewed strength and stability.

When Dan created an endowment to honor his late wife Kathleen, and support the work of Catholic Charities, he wanted to ensure their generosity would live on—serving families not just today, but for generations to come.
