AEC sends message of solidarity
The following is a June 25 press release from the President of the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC), Most Rev. Charles Jason Gordon, expressing the solidarity and prayers of the bishops of the AEC with the people of Venezuela following the twin earthquakes: MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD IN VENEZUELA The bishops of the Antilles Episcopal Conference have received with profound sorrow the news of the devastating earthquake that has struck several regions of Venezuela. We assure the people of Venezuela of our prayer, our closeness, and our fraternal solidarity, trusting in the promise of the Lord, who is "close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are
crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). On behalf of the bishops of the Antilles Episcopal Conference, I assure the Bishops of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, the
clergy, religious women and men, and all the faithful of our constant prayers. As Saint Paul reminds us, "If one member suffers, all suffer together" (1 Corinthians 12:26). Though the Caribbean Sea separates our shores, the communion we share in Christ makes us one family in faith. The peoples of the Caribbean know well the wounds that natural disasters leave behind. We know the anguish of waiting for news of loved ones, the grief of lives lost, and the long work of rebuilding homes and communities. Yet we have also witnessed how faith gives courage, neighbourly love becomes an instrument of God's providence, and the Church stands as a living sign (please turn to p2)

Dr. Patrick Anthony From Monday, June 22 to Thursday, June 25, 2026, two theologians of the Conference on Theology in the Caribbean Today (CTCT), Monsignor Dr. Patrick “Paba” Anthony and Dr. Gerald M. Boodoo, visited Guyana in preparation for the Diocese of Georgetown hosting the organisation’s Annual Conference from June 7–11, 2027. During their visit, the theologians toured several prospective venues
and met with members of the local organising committee, which is chaired by Ms. Roxanne Douglas. The visit formed part of the early planning process as the Diocese prepares to welcome participants from across the Caribbean. Founded in 1994, the Conference on Theology in the Caribbean Today (CTCT) seeks to foster theological reflection within the Caribbean context by bringing
together theologians, clergy, religious and laity from across the region. The Diocese of Georgetown is proud to host this significant regional gathering in 2027 and looks forward to welcoming participants from throughout the Caribbean.
