Note
The piece originates in an image of a picture being painted, while the ink and the canvas are made of inappropriate materials. Thus, the paint cannot attach to the canvas and the streaks of paint drip down immediately. The resulting painting is a combination of the artist’s intentions and the effects of gravity. Here, gravity enters the abstract world of sounds and becomes the main driving force of the piece that overshadows the original compositional intentions.
Notation/Playing Techniques

SP – sul ponticello MSP – molto sul ponticello ST – sul tasto
- tremolo should be played always as fast as possible
- glissando should always start immediately and should be played as continuous and equal as possible - tremolo between sul pont. and sul tasto. Hold the bow with the 5 fingers closed (not the normal hold of the bow) and move it from bridge to the fingerboard while bowing – a similar movement to swiping or cleaning a dirty surface.
- unless indicated otherwise, trills should be half step trills
- if a note in brackets appears, the trill should be as indicated (in this example major 3rd trill)
- dotted line indicates harmonics glissando
- as high as possible
- half harmonic – in the left hand apply pressure between normal to harmonics.
- hard bow pressure
- natural harmonics. The diamond shaped note indicates the place of fingering, the high note indicates the resulting pitch.
- In case of high harmonics, the played note and resulting pitch are the same. The number indicated the specific hamonic – here 7th harmonic on IV string
- with superball mallet, rub the superball against the back of the instrument in “8” figure
- col legno tratto – move the wood of the bow softly on along the string creating a soft metallic glissando according to the violin clef. Pay attention to put the wood softly on the string so there is no attack in the beginning and the end of the movement.
- damp the strings. While bowing the first string with high bow pressure, move the bow along the string according to the indications (in relation to the violin clef)
