the disposition can be treated quite freely – it is important, though, that the division of the musicians to the left and the right is observed.

MOTORISED PIANO

silently pressed keys

(high motor is playing)

play motor 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (1 = lowest register, 5 = highest register, 2, 3, 4 = in between)

motor turns clockwise

motor turns anticlockwise

bpm the given bpm shows the approximate tempo of half a rotation as the paper attached to the motor strikes the strings twice during one rotation.

turn on the given motors slowly and increase to given bpm turn off the given motors slowly and decrease until motor stops

STRINGS

f. fautando c.l.cr. col legno crini ord. ordinario vibr. with vibrato

damp strings lightly with four fngers (near the frst harmonic) and play with very light bow (white noise)

hum along, very quietly, if in your register

transition from one technique to another

indicates the velocity of the bowing:

0 = no velocity

0.5 = very very slow = approx. 60 sec. per bow (unstable tone)

1 = very slow = approx. 15 sec. per bow (stable tone)

2 = slow = approx. 3 sec. per bow

3 = medium velocity = approx. 1 bow per sec.

4 = fast = approx. 1.5 bows per sec.

5 = very fast = approx. 2 bows per sec.

6 = as fast as possible = approx. 2.5 bows per sec.

No matter what the indicated speed is, the entire length of the bow should always be used. The indication ”6” does not mean a normal tremolo!

ELECTRONICS

FRONT slight amplifcation of the motorised piano that stays in the front spekaers (should give the listener the impression that it’s not amplifed)

SURROUND surround amplifcation of the motorised piano that gives the listener the feeling of being situated inside the motorised piano

FRONT SURROUND

transition from one distribution of sound to another SURROUND FRONT

S. RIGHT amplifcation/electronics comes from surround right

S. LEFT amplifcation/electronics comes from surround left start given resonance stop given resonance
