PROGRAM NOTE
Beginning in mid-March 2020, feeling the isolation of quarantine, I began to write very short piano pieces. Somehow, with my world flipped upside down, it felt good to write for piano. When I finished a piece, I sent the music to pianist Vicky Chow. Vicky learned all 31 pieces and created videos for each. The plan was to premiere these pieces, one a day, during the month of July, on Instagram. I liked the idea of having piano pieces to keep track of the passing time. On the last day of June I called the wonderful choreographer Brian Brooks and invited him to join the project by making a video/dance piece every day in July to complement each of the piano pieces. Here in this volume is the complete set of pieces. I invite you to perform any or all of them, in whichever order seems right.
