Players must use both hands to play tremolos

Pedal should be almost constant throughout

Notes may be shaped with slight swells, to allow pitches to emerge from their textures, at the discretion of the performer. All notes may be treated this way, except for those notes marked "ppp", such as the Bb's, pages 1 .. 6, etc. Notes so marked must be played uninflected, distant and still.

This piece is in two movements: Aria & Chorale. Although there is a pause in time between the movements, there should be no pause in intensity or concentration .. just a tense silence.
