I want to live is a movement from the staged oratorio Shelter that I wrote with composers Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe, with libretto by Deborah Artman. Shelter was commissioned by Musikfabrik and the Next Wave Festival of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and was premiered 18 March 2005 in Cologne, Germany, performed by Trio Mediaeval with Musikfabrik, conducted by Brad Lubman, and with staging by Ridge Theater, Bob McGrath, director.
