PROGRAM NOTE

“Prepare for Takeoff” is a short work commissioned by and dedicated to the Baldwin High School Symphonic Band, Scott J. Dunn, conductor. This is a fanfare type of piece that captures the spirit of flying. In order to fly, however, one must first prepare for takeoff. I wanted to write music that evokes the excitement and energy of being on the runway and getting ready to fly. The work is a little over 5 minutes in duration, and the first four and half minutes represent the preparation and actual moment of takeoff. After the climax (takeoff), the remaining perpetual sounds and motion symbolize the feelings of being in flight!
