Program note
This work combines two parallel stories that converge into a shared experience – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an Austrian man and myself, a Mexican woman, both young composers who are writing music in different periods of time and space. He and I come together in the exploration of music as a means to express the profound pain of a lost love and the internal transformation it entails. Inspired by Mozart's Symphony No. 40 and my own life experiences, I conceive this musical piece as a counterpoint and dialogue, dedicated to the constant reinvention of beauty.
I yearn for the music to become a way that leads performers and audiences into new emotional realms, immersing them in the intensity of love, pain, passion, and freedom, all from the perspective of a female composer rooted in Aztec traditions and deities. Symbolically, the feathered serpent, the god Quetzalcóatl, represents nature, power, the duality between darkness and light, and liberation – a pivotal element in the musical narrative of this work. Thus, Wolfgang and I, hailing from diverse realities, temporarily converge before the same empty staff, sharing overwhelming pains and passions. I write this piece in an emotive homage to my mother, my culture, and the power of transformation, propelling us toward an awareness of universal solidarity.
