Historic Landmarks Commission approves Lobero Theatre additions Rendering Courtesy of the City of SB
UR GOLDEN STATE OF STARS AND STORIES will shine at The New Vic this fall as the Ensemble Theatre Company presents its 48th season, California: Here and Now, examining the humor, drama, and people that make up California’s nuanced identity. “I keep calling Season 48 the most necessary season we’ve ever programmed, and I mean it,” said Executive Artistic Director Scott DeVine. “We’re all living in a world where it’s genuinely hard to know what’s real anymore — the feeds are full of bots, the photos never happened, the voice on the phone only sounds human. California: Here & Now is our answer to that. Five nights this year when you know what you’re seeing is real, because you’re seeing it together with a room full of other people.”
The proposed renovations to the Lobero Theatre include a new rehearsal space, banquet hall, and more
The Lobero Theatre, on East Canon Perdido Street, is a designated historic landmark in Santa Barbara. Todd Jerod, technical director for the Lobero Theatre, said that the project addresses problems he’s been aware of for a long time. Working there for over 35 years, Jerod has identified issues with space and functionality. (See Lobero, 11)
