ello Autumn 2018 and hello to you, Reader!

This issue opens with a new seasonal inspiration because I've always felt that Autumn is the season to recreation, beginning to renew own décor of house. I suggest you only one thing:

don’t choose many products, focus only on a piece that makes your ambiance one of a kind, beautiful.

But the concept of beauty is subjective. Every moment is full of beautiful things and we dive into beauty, you just need to know how to find them. To me, beauty at this precise moment is the great satisfaction: it's when the creation of hard work ends, when everything is done. Beauty of each work is in patience, in the care of every detail. Beauty for me is also the luxury of being able to do what we like do.

To broaden the concept of beauty, we decided to reveal the opinions of the famous based-Paris studios that have distinguished themselves for their professional touch and ability to decorate

Eat, drink and dance!

Bar TORÖ is the last project by Masquespacio in Ibiza, Spain, commissioned by Servitur Group, the touristic management consultant behind hotel chain Typic Hotels. The concept of Bar TORÖ starts with the aim to develop a hospitality venue with a Mediterranean spirit, offering a service of a sports bar and Spanish tapas focused on an international clientele. The space located at the end of San Antonio, contains more than 200 m2, mostly occupied by a terrace at the edge of the sea. For the design, Masquespacio seeks to give major importance to the exterior mixing three colors: purple blue, turquoise green and mustard yellow. This way, together with the use of plants the intention was to create a modern and cheerful design. On the other hand, through the furniture layout and its design the aim was to play with the sports, sandwiches & beer bar concept using areas with high and low benches, as well as zones to relax for small and big groups. Using high benches above the aim was to increase the quantity of seating options with a sea view. www.masquespacio.com

Food for Thought

H2R Design an exciting new design studio based in Dubai and London, creating some of the most renowned commercial and hospitality spaces, was appointed by Pizza Express to design the latest chain of the restaurant franchise. Located in Matajer Shopping Mall, University City Sharjah, H2R Design approached the project with the theme of curiosity for knowledge and good taste. They designed an academically inspired version of the popular pizzeria while holding on to the restaurant’s playful attributes. The project was completed and handed over earlier this year.

Bulgari’s flagship store in Kuala Lumpur has opened with a new façade that imagines the luxury brand’s heritage, and experiments with traditional materials. The storefront is the first in a series of MVRDV façade designs for the luxury brand. MVRDV’s design draws on inspiration from the luxury brand’s heritage. The cornice of via Condotti is a set element used symmetrically in different locations over the world, and its iconic marble façade now reinvented and reinterpreted by material experiments. The company name Mineheart was inspired by the Shakespearian quote:

"Mine eye and heart..." to symbolise their dual passions; love for tradition and eye for contemporary design which is combined in often surprising and delightful ways within the Mineheart collection.

“The idea behind Mineheart is to create a playground for creativity and discovery, where art meets design, and poetry meets industry. We try to inject a sense of wonder into everyday objects and spaces around us, telling stories and creating things that are truly surprising,”Young&Battaglia

At Mineheart, we are always looking for inspirational work, new materials and interesting collaborations. We collaborate with artists from various backgrounds and medias where their world meets ours in a complementary and surprising way. We have enjoyed working with artists such as Himitsuhana, Chad Wys, Angela Rossi, Joao Figueiredo and Courtney Brims. In our 2018 collaborations we see the likes of Stefano Bonazzi and Michael Banks, whose work fits perfectly within the Mineheart mindset, often mixing or twisting classical ideas in new and unexpected ways. The latter half of 2018 is bringing interesting new collection releases across all categories which we are excited to share with you!

LUCINDA LOYA

With passion, Lucinda has built a name for herself as a premiere interior decorator, her Houston based Lucinda Loya Interiors is one of the most sought after design firms in Texas. Lucinda’s playful sense of color, pattern and texture adds character and personality to each composition. She loves to expose her client’s passions and incorporate them with her artistic edge to create a space indisputably unique. Her level of sophistication is second to none and her dazzling interiors are invigorating to the senses. Kentucky project, realized by Lucinda in 2016, is a house located in Cherokee triangle in the Highlands. The home was built in 1875 as an Italianate mansion that had later been divided into a multi-family apartment building, which is very typical of the historic neighborhood. The design approach was to enhance the authenticity of its bones but at the same time, bring life back into the home that may have been lost through the years with loads of personality. A color explosion, and contemporary art with attitude, lends itself to quirky, playful. Grandma Chic takes you there! The interiors seem very ‘modern European’ because modern European is a huge influence on Lucinda’s design aesthetic. She likes implementing characteristics of antiquities and art from all over the world. Her style is eclectic and can lean modern, contemporary and even transitional, along with anything in between. What matters most is that each project is true to itself, the client and remains unique. A color scheme did not exist in this house, the only thing Lucinda avoided was primary colors as they weren't at all an option. Other than that, there were no limits. Although this may sound like an easy task, her approach was very organized and chaotic. Nothing came first when designing this house, that is why it was an organized chaos. Like a symphony, everything came together as long as she stayed true to its time periods.

VANESSA DELEON ASSOCIATES

Vanessa DeLeon Associates is an award winning Interior Design Firm that specializes in residential, commercial, and hospitality interior design. They have a strong commitment to serving their clients with quality work from concept to completion. Vanessa’s inspiration is rooted in her cultural composition. Her work combines modern, stylized designs with classic décor. Vanessa has become a major influencer in the interior design space.

5th Avenue is one of most famous places in the world. In the master closet of this 5th Avenue apartment designed by Vanessa Deleon, there is plenty of room to artfully display years of fashion assets. An all black feather pendant lamp and grey Persian cowhide rug all from Mineheart, parade of butterflies covering the ceiling, an etched glass backlit mirror and crystal studded hardware make this closet as chic as 5th.

YOUNG&BATTAGLIA

Anglo-Italian design duo Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia both trained in Industrial design. Young in Plymouth in the UK and Battaglia at ISIA in Rome, Italy. The couple made their debut show in 2003 at the Milan furniture Fair with their acclaimed ‘Sustainability with a smile’ collection using upcycled and repurposed materials (initially under the name Studiomold, then later as Young & Battaglia). Their have worked

across a wide variety of creative projects including interiors, gardens, lighting, furniture,

accessories, graphics and art direction for UK and International clients, and they are the founding partners of British interiors brand Mineheart. Their playful approach to design has won them a host of awards and they have attracted international recognition through a presence in many exhibitions worldwide including New York, Milan, Tokyo, Paris and London. Heralded as one of the top 10 design

studios of the future at 100% Design London’s 10th anniversary, their work has been published in books, most leading design magazines, and selected for prestigious shows and collections such as the V&A museum and the MOMA.

Since the 1920s, the facade of the Hôtel du Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées has been dominating the Rue de Ponthieu. The architecture of the building alone embodies this golden age in the decorative arts, blending aesthetic balance and quiet ornamental compositions. Much more than a pretext, it was something self-evident. The renovated building could only pay homage to the «1930s» style by reviving and transcending it. This approach was adopted by the interior architect Bruno Borrione, already known for his remarkable work on the Prince de Galles and the Royal Monceau, among others. Here he has provided a «new reading» of Art Deco style, taking care not to fall into literal quotation.

Michaelis Boyd designs vibrant new Seoul hotel inspired by the beauty of the Korean landscape, RYSE

Michaelis Boyd, the London based architecture and interior design studio has just unveiled RYSE, a vibrant new hotel in the creative heart of Hongdae, Seoul. Part of the Autograph Collection, the hotel aims to act as a cultural force and a lifestyle hub The design was inspired by the beauty of the Korean landscape and the alternative, youthful character of the neighbourhood in which the hotel is situated

Michaelis Boyd was commissioned to create a bold vision for the entire hotel, which sits within a building designed by SCAAA and has delivered a distinctive design concept for the hotel interiors with artistic elements woven throughout the hotel’s public spaces, amenities and guestrooms

RYSE provides a place for creatives to meet and a hub for international travellers and professionals alike The hotel features a dramatic open lobby space, refined guestrooms and a sophisticated roof top lounge

Michaelis Boyd wanted to create a dynamic first impression for the hotel guests The design team drew on inspiration from the natural Korean landscape to create a striking feature at the centre of the tripleheight entrance space; a lift core-clad in monolithic concrete slabs of different textures that contrasts with the perfectly cut and polished marble lobby area.

The lobby is defined by the mix of rough and raw materials combined with luxurious detailing. A pink resin floor reflects the energy and spirit of the neighbourhood while a large statement artwork looms from an elliptical hole in the ceiling. The floor also acts as a reflecting pool as daylight passes

through the space. Bespoke concrete steps which create seating are positioned directly beneath the circular void installation which separates the lobby area from the raised café area. Additional seating is spread throughout the space with modular sofa systems in shades of pink and green to compliment the floor design. The large glass windows at ground floor level provide a view of the passing pedestrians outside. While monumental in design, Michaelis Boyd has created intimate spaces across the hotel, including the lobby. Michaelis Boyd also wanted to balance the bold design and rawness of the materials used with a sense of luxury.

The check-in and Print Lounge have been designed to suggest a grand curated gallery in red and gold colourways, with art pieces reflecting the history of Hongdae. A long brass mesh curtain has been woven vertically through the space to form individual zones and a sense of transparency.

The space is split in the middle by the elliptical void looking down to the entrance lobby while a sculptural concrete staircase circles around the perimeter leading up to the fourth floor. Rich red carpet is contrasted with polished concrete flooring and exposed concrete ceilings with luxurious tan and brown leather bespoke furniture.

Sip and savor the moment at the iconic Side Note Club of the hotel. Equipped with RYSE’s selected vinyl collections, the Side Note Club is a place for vibrant, energetic and aspirational hipsters.

Here’s the place where sophisticated people gather!

Guestrooms feature a natural colour palette with green and blue accents, combined with materials including tanned leather, dark timber and grey felt. The main concept for the rooms was to break down the typical ‘corridor and bathroom’ box at the entrance to a hotel room. Michaelis Boyd achieved this by designing a permeable wall that is expressed in different ways across different room types. The open wardrobe and glass enclosed bathrooms make the rooms seem larger and more open giving the feeling that the whole room is one fluid space. The sophisticated and highly functional design scheme features a custom-made powder coated metal framed and timber fronted storage unit which divides the bathrooms and the bedrooms. Bespoke systems accommodate the safe and mini bar and provide shelving solutions and enclosed storage space. Custom headboards have also been created in leather and felt fabric.

Transparent screens separate the sleeping area from the bathroom without visually obstructing the view around the space, while sliding mirrored doors and blinds provide privacy.

The bright and open bathrooms were designed to provide a contrast with the more colourful and cosy bedroom and living areas. Bathroom walls are finished in polished tiles and terrazzo slabs that also form the vanity sink tops.

Dolce&Gabbana store was opened in Design District, Miami, with glass façade like a transparent curtain

Dolce&Gabbana world is shown “BEHIND THE CURTAIN”, as if we could see a back stage in a theatre. Designed by Gwenael Nicolas from Curiosity, it pays homage to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, one of the favorite places for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana

lass façade dynamically spanning between two floors has luminous reflections, filled with light from the Sunshine State. Wavering light with wavy façade creates illusion of movement for store display. “BEHIND THE CURTAIN” space of Dolce&Gabbana is created counters, and walnut furniture embellished with polished steel or gold velvet. In combination with clear glass display counters and various color of precious jewelries, the ensemble is reminiscent of the set design of a theatrical play. The ceilings are fitted with spotlights illuminating Italiancrafted classic sculptures, decors of an opera or drama ready to be performed.

The stairs connecting the two floors is a play of floating travertine slabs, like a magical stair that would be used in an enchanted play.

Similar color tone with various thickness and texture of material emphasizes the authenticity and naturalness of those stones.

On the second floor, the black industrial feeling of the ceiling emphasis the back stage feeling with all mechanisms visible. The deconstructed composition composition of the stone walls and ceiling, contrast the different stones finishes and patterns gives a sense of timelessness, reminiscence of the Italian origins. The single curtain-like glass wall connecting first and second floor creates a sense of drama.

in Marrakech haute couture

Dedicated to the work of the legendary French fashion designer, the new Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech (mYSLm) house an important selection from the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent’s impressive collection

The building has been designed by the French architecture firm Studio KO, founded by Olivier Marty and Karl Fournier. Situated on Rue Yves Saint Laurent, adjacent to the famous Jardin Majorelle, the new building spans over 4,000 m2 and is more than just a museum. It features a 400 m2 permanent exhibition space, showcasing Yves Saint Laurent’s work within an original scenography designed by Christophe Martin; a 150 m2 temporary exhibition space, a 130-seat auditorium, a bookshop, a café-restaurant with a terrace and a research library housing 5,000 books. The library’s collection includes books on Arabic and Andalusian history, geography, literature and poetry, as well as numerous volumes related to botany, Berber culture, Yves Saint Laurent’s oeuvre and the world of fashion.

While researching the designer’s archives in Paris, Studio KO was intrigued by the duality between curves and straight lines, and the succession of loose and clean cuts. From the outside, the building is composed of cubic forms adorned with bricks which create a pattern resembling threads of fabric. The inside is markedly different, like the lining of a luxurious couture jacket: luminous, velvety and smooth.

Built of terracotta, concrete and an earthen colored terrazzo with Moroccan stone fragments, the building blends harmoniously with its surroundings. The terracotta bricks that embellish the facade are made from Moroccan earth and produced by a local supplier. The terrazzo used for the floor and facade is made using a combination of local stone and marble.

The auditorium’s state-of-the-art acoustics were designed by the architects in collaboration with Theatre Projects Consultant. This will allow for the programming of concerts, film screenings and conferences in a separate and soundproof space. After a thorough study, the lighting engineers

I.C.O.N will install the lighting of the external spaces surrounding the museum, the museum’s interior, and the atmospheric lighting for the exhibition space.

The international creative studio id.real recently opened the doors of their brand new headquarters in the heart of Madrid.

Strategically located in the Salamanca Quarter, renowned for its mix of upscale residential homes, business offices,

diplomatic representation offices and luxurious boutiques, the studio is housed in a former warehouse adjacent to the historic building at 19 Castelló Street. The id.real creative studio commissioned designer Thomas Dariel from the multiawarded Shanghai-based design studio Dariel Studio to work with the independent interior designer and id.real Managing Director Anouk de Lesparda. Their main challenge was to transform the industrial unit into a XXI century design studio while enhancing its 1930s-building structure and historical heritage.

Dariel’s vision of the overall concept, enhanced by his custom-designed and developed furniture, was exactly what the space needed to make it stand out. Thomas Dariel and Anouk de Lesparda worked closely together to bring the original concept to life: from concept to implementation each brought their individual skills and expertise in design and interior architecture.

Embracing the past on which one builds the future, and employing noble materials in new and innovative ways, the studio delivers its Human-Centered Design activities and work. The result is an astonishingly beautiful and functional space

Dariel, in collaboration with De Lesparda, has imagined and designed a unique interior where each individual detail has a significant meaning This is evident in the treatment given to some of the walls which evoke ideas of a piece of paper folding in one of its corners At a time when most of us enjoy the latest advanced technology, sketching with paper and pencil is still essential for successful design in the XXI Century

Featuring industrial era codes coupled with modern nuances, Dariel infuses warmth, personal touches and lightness in his exceptional interiors. Throughout the space, one finds splatters of color contrasted against the sobriety and historical nature of its brick walls, open-view metal trusses and microcement floors. Colors, patterns, geometric shapes and textures are omnipresent, on walls, floors and rugs, as well as furniture and fixtures that have been specially designed for this project.

Special attention was given to allowing the natural light into the once dark industrial building, whilst respecting the historical structure of the edifice. In opening up the main ceiling and installing glass walls, the light reaches even the darkest corners and enables a breathtaking view of the Basílica de la Concepción de Nuestra Señora, located in Calle Goya. The glass roof is the architectural representation of id.real’s search of transparency in their work

The design is in total harmony with its surroundings. Dariel, alongside id.real architects, took special care to reinstate the building’s greatness, nestled in the heart of one of the most recognizable and respected neighborhoods of Madrid.

The main purpose was to create a space that inspired awe in its visitors, while making it livable and workable for the creative team that it was designed to house: a bright open space area for day-to-day work; a lounge section to relax or hold spontaneous meetings; a kitchen area to share food for thought and for the soul; an art gallery to inspire and to get inspired; and finally a green wall to bring life to the interior.

Dariel’s desire to create a space which harmonizes the past, present and future of the city through this working space is both a tribute to the grandeur of the industrial era and a future where people are at the center of design, experiences and life.

Nomade Architettura eInterior Design studio hasdone the complete renovation ofanapartment near Milanforafamily

The apartment has been completely gutted, thus gaining a large and open plan development and emphasizing the natural light to the maximum. The request of the client, a family made up of parents and a child, was not trivial: the intention was to play on the aesthetics and materials of the Apulian farms, with a hint of northern European look, without forgetting a slightly industrial accent. The challenge then was to seek a balance, a key design, which could summarize the different requests, creating a unique home.

The living room opens onto the kitchen, divided by an iron window, to which a snack plan is attached.

The tones are clear, from the natural wood, to the white of the walls, to the commensurate contrast of black iron.

The two bathrooms are played on the contrast of the subway tiles on the walls and the yellow majolica on the ground on one side, and the anthracite gray and white on the other.

THE HOUSE WRAPPED IN NATURE

The setting for this house within Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, on the Botrivier Lagoon south-east of Cape Town is spectacular – a slope of indigenous fynbos vegetation runs into the broad waters of a tidal estuary bordered by mountains. The considered architectural design by SAOTA and Interiors by ARRCC of this holiday house in negotiate the inherent paradox of such exposure to nature – how to shackle the extreme elements – sun, salt, rain and, in particular, high winds - whilst allowing the exceptional natural beauty of the site to pervade every space.

Nature pervades the house –the seamless flow of internal floors and ceilings out into external living spaces is mirrored by the fynbos planting which stalks the edges of the internal envelope, enfolds the terraces and decks and seeps into the garden courtyard.

Seen from the lagoon the result is a memorable composition – at once a considered response to the contours and microclimate of the site and a poetic narrative of shelter and outlook. Such an unusual form could feel out of place without its references to the distinct local typologies of barns and fruit-packing sheds. Timber sidings appear at the entrance and are repeated on key ceiling planes, the roofs are a celebration of corrugated aluminium, the over-sailing arms of the “C” shaped layout are a reinterpretation of the traditional “alphabetic” planning of the wings or “werfs” of historic local farms.

Entrance at the back of the building is deliberately understated; a modest canopy shelters the front door opening onto a landing from which a broad spine gently traces down the natural gradient alongside a generous garden courtyard. The corridor ends at the kitchen, whose island – a solid block of granite – forms a fulcrum with the principle living areas placed at right angles, parallel with the lagoon. The kitchen looks out over open-plan dining and lounge areas towards a fireplace and picture window framed in a massive concrete hearth wall.

Occasional elements contrast raw materials with more refined details –the kitchen island- formed from rough solid blocks of granite – is highly polished on its counter.

Throughout the house loose furnishings selected by ARRCC, generally sourced from local manufacturer OKHA, provide a warm and luxurious counterpoint to the architecture. OKHA’s signature fine wool and bamboo silk Diamond Rug which takes its inspiration from geometry and rock formations complement the granite floors of the living room. Seating is provided by an impromptu collection of OKHA’s luxurious Lshaped Jada sofa, solid oak frame Miles armchair and Nicci armchair in olive-green leather finish. To anchor the collection the Capri Coffee table in Volakas White marble was chosen to resonate with the geological surrounds. Occasional leather poufs add a casual flair to the layout.

The internal living wing is held between garden courtyard and covered decks leading out to a pool which appears to blend into the lagoon beyond. The slope of the distinctive timber clad soffit was carefully calibrated to provide shelter from the prevailing wind. It extends out from the lounge to create an external living room and outdoor kitchen which are further enclosed by moveable screens.

The dining area boasts OKHA’s Bison dining table which can easily accommodate up to 10 people. The Bison’s solid oak table top forges a hand-in-glove narrative with the ceiling’s beautiful timber sidings.

The two upper wings house bedrooms with elevated views across the lagoon to the mountains. Overlooking the deck OKHA’s signature swivel STM armchair provides the viewer with a 360-degree view of estuary and interior.

The edited approach to the interiors places emphasis on the use of the architectural materials such as concrete and granite.

specially at the pool area for him and his son.

To concur that, Paola explored the landscape of that area leaving it cozy and private.

The penthouse has a privileged view of Rio de Janeiro. From any window you can see key points, such as the Redeemer Christ Statue, the Sugar Loaf and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

It was carried out an installation of solar panels to supply the total warming the house and make it autonomous.

The gourmet area by the pool was a special request because the client loves the have friend and family over on weekends

The apartment is between the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon heliport and the Redeemer Christ Statue, the client requested an acoustic treatment in the living room and bedrooms (that includes floor, ceiling, walls and windows).

This 650m2 home develops in section, obtaining three levels of uses interconnected by a central space, still maintaining the privacy of each room. The social area is located in an elevated level to get the best views of the landscape. It is accessed by an irregular ramp that creates a unique path towards the house entrance.

The private areas are divided in two, one sector for the visiting grown up children and the other for the parents.

This way, the loudest areas such as the garden, pool and quincho are together with the guest rooms, while the master suite is located in a third level to ensure privacy and comfort.

The functional aspects and the singular way the levels are connected by a central green space give a special character to this home.

This house amaze us at every step, with its originality, warmth and attention to details, becoming one with the surrounding and making justice to the true protagonist, the landscape.

GEOMETRIC

The house’s locate in a private neighborhood to west of Mendoza city in direct relation with piedmont and far views to the city. The terrain of 20 meters front and 50 meters long has exit at two streets to north and south.

EOMETRIC HOUSE

The most determinant at the moment to define project was the program, the family is constitute for a marriage with one daughter, who is single mother, has difficulties to walk and in turn twins of five years old. It was decided to organize the house by pavilions, these could be integrate or keep like independents according to different scenes of diary life. A first pavilion would resolve common life of all members organizing main living room, dining room, kitchen, services and wine cellar.

A second pavilion would accommodate at marriage organizing even that a main bedroom with bathroom and dressing room, an additional space that would allow autonomy moments respect the rest of house with a small living and an office. The third pavilion would accommodate mother and her two kids organizing three suites and a living room/playroom.

These three pavilions are connected by a central space that integrates, being at the same time the access hall house and connecting with a gallery and the exterior garden. Through this space three pavilions are integrate or close allowing different interactions.

Once considered lateral distances and with neighborhood imposition of develop leaning roofs, defined one piece that with cloisters typology show your higher height to exterior perimeter and your smaller height to center. Over this piece started operations of subtraction to get the different pavilions, access yard, main garden and intermediate yard. A concrete’s basement resolve the existent 90 centimeters slope between both streets getting a continuous and level relations stratum to make easier the movements into the house and giving possibility to the transit of a wheelchair.

Over this basement the constructive logic was define an exterior perimeter of double isolated wall of brick in sight of 4,85 meters of height drilled with windows, over this be supported a metal structure covered with black corrugated sheet in the exterior and black dyeing wood in the interior that conform both, roof and vertical interior coating of 3 meters height. The corners are resolve following the logic of converges roofs also producing the access premise. The project is complete with a wine cellar in the underground and a small exterior bay window from which you can contemplate the mountain range and distant views to the city.

The original layout of site and dwelling were well planned to ensure privacy from the street and to address

spectacular views over the LA basin, capturing the full panorama from Downtown to Century City, with mountains to the east and ocean to the south. On the client’s instruction to expunge all traces of the original Spanish style architecture, SAOTA decided to strip the existing house back to its timber skeleton, maximize the square footage and, by reinforcing or extending where necessary, create generous openings to draw the beautiful West Coast light, the rolling vistas and the verdant setting deep into the floorplan This concept of “inviting the outside in” encapsulates the SAOTA approach, approach, and at Stradella these informed design decisions ranging from space planning to façade design, landscaping, lighting, window configuration and shading details. An attractive approach cut into deeply wooded hillside arrives at a leafy forecourt signaling the entrance of the house. The arrival façade is reimagined as a sculptural composition – a massive buttress ties the house into the hillside; blank, stone-faced walls, incised with vertical screens hover over glazing, inviting the eye in and through. From the entrance lobby, an asymmetrical passage carved through the main body of the house intentionally delays the reveal of the Downtown skyline, framed by the high ceilings of the great room. There is a deliberate transition as the weighty forms of the entrance, anchored into the hillside, give way to a lighter structure hanging vertiginously over it, aligning to the city grid and framing the views.

The lush wooded setting, so apparent in the approach to the house, seems to sweep through it to the front terrace which was reconfigured with a new pool and linear planters to animate views from within the house.

Carefully designed lighting accentuates the architecture and responds directly to furniture layouts, ensuring that a sense of intimacy is established throughout the open spaces.

A generous new linear canopy amplifies the width of the site, creating natural extensions of internal living spaces, improving flow between the various functions of the house, and providing comfortable spaces for outdoor dining and lounging This iconic, 40m (131ft) long canopy – its skinny, expressed structure reminiscent of Koenig’s Stahl House – floats effortlessly over the east terrace as it draws a deliberate frame around the quintessential blue sky and palm trees. It lends new coherence to the remodelled elements of the former dwelling - and to a new theatre and dining wing to the north of the site. This addition bridges the original exit driveway and defines a new motor court to the rear of the property at a lower level. A new gym and spa, a cellar and staff spaces are all accommodated at this basement level allowing the main living spaces at first floor to remain light and open. Landscaping was designed to enhance the already luxuriant setting. It was impossible to introduce a courtyard into the heart of the plan, and so the planted spaces were critical, softening the look and feel of the contemporary forms and allowing a more intimate experience of the leafy site. Existing twin palms were retained at the pool terrace and feature in views out of the solarium bar and master bedroom suite, whilst low level planting and lawn to the terraces ensure functional outdoor spaces and uncluttered views of the horizon. Going well beyond the remit of a traditional remodel, SAOTA has utterly transformed the existing house into a home that functions at the highest level and establishes a fresh contemporary aesthetic in the tradition of Californian Modernism.

The Polish architect, Robert Konieczny from KWK Promes studio has created a new house near the river in the green of central Poland

The client had his own vision of the interior arrangement with rise the entire

part of the living area on the first floor to feel safer there. Additionally, he wanted to place a house in the middle of the plot, far away from the river, where a marina was supposed to be. The Polish architect decided to wrap functions arranged by the client and connect: entry, house and marina. It brought to the idea of the ribbon, which was stretched across the entire area.

First, from the entry as a road, then twisted and shaping ceilings and walls of the house, wrapping the interior. Next, the ribbon was unrolled as a pier connecting the raised living room with the garden level. Then wrigglingthe ribbon ran towards the river. So the road pierced the house. The garage with a glass wall interfered the living space.

The wrapped road runs throught an old orchard avoiding the trees and reaches the place, where the house was supposed to be. It rises and twists around the level of the first floor, expanding towards the view, both up and up.

Underneath the ground floor rooms are located. Then the ribbon unrolled and becomes a footbridge connecting the level of the firs floor with the garden level and further meanders between the trees on a step slop towards the river.

From afar the building is a marker in the landscape, it expresses a meaning already suggested by its context From close up, it is a collection of many things and from within, a world, that changes with the passing of the hours of the day and the days of the year

The design is like a constellation of points, each one’s luminosity defining architects' priorities, corresponding to the ambitions of those who live within it and is an interpretation of the spaces that embrace the joys of life. The project team has built a place

for the present that projects back into memory and forward into the future: the memory of pristine landscapes where the buildings of local stone had to resist until eternity, protecting the inhabitants; when gestures were used sparingly in order to concentrate strength. Now, they respond to a different perception, perhaps more evolved, to adapt to the speed of life.

However, the ultimate goal of a space remains as giving comfort to its inhabitant This for architects represents the drive towards the future; working to improve the quality of life and creating a place of positive energy, where man is the protagonist in finding his way to become a better person.

The construction is used as a primary dwelling. It is designed as a volume enclosed by a set of concrete sects. Beginning as a cube and a square plan, these concrete blades are shifted three dimensionally to open the space up to the Alpine landscape, while maintaining privacy. It protects the inhabitants from visual collisions with the neighbours yet is generous in its prospect, the borrowed landscape becoming part of daily life.

The concrete blades evoke the idea of terracing and retaining walls, common in this region, that at times lift up off the ground, revealing the entrance porch and the west bedroom

The plan of the house is staggered by a mid level floor, allowing the house adhere to the gentle slope of the land. To the south, a double stair system brings us to the terraces of the kitchen and the living room This aspect underlines the importance of the relationship between this new presence and the traditional stone constructions of the region where the external stairs offered access to the upper floor level. This system also reinforces the perception of a terraced structure in the landscape

The cube, the primal element of this new organism in which to live, is the place of calm and the fulcrum of the hill Its concrete blades are fragments, broken off from the medieval castle walls of Bellinzona. It is architects' ideal home, an enclosure that opens up to the context and breathes it in, making they part of these wonderful surroundings. The space dilates across diverse horizons, in different directions, all intended by the design, and by the nearby details, like the tree or the vines of the neighbours’ gardens.
