cast biographies Christine Barreca (Taxi Driver) is a senior Music Theatre major and Dance minor and is so happy to be a part of this gem of a show for her last production at Carthage College. Previous mainstage shows include PUFFS (Megan Jones), THE HANDBOOK (Vicky), FLORA THE RED MENACE (Maggie), and the RESONATE dance shows. Music Theatre Workshop productions include RIDE THE CYCLONE, SWEET CHARITY, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, and HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS…. Christine is thrilled to be involved in a show that celebrates powerful women. She wants to thank her family and friends for their love and support throughout her four years in Carthage theatre. Anna Brown (Pepa) is a senior Music Theatre major and could not be happier to be part of this production for her final performance at Carthage. Past Carthage mainstage credits include THE HANDBOOK (Kenzie) and FLORA THE RED MENACE (Galka/ensemble), as well as the Music Theatre workshop productions of RIDE THE CYCLONE (Jane Doe) and SWEET CHARITY (ensemble/dance captain). She also appeared in the Opera Workshop production THEN GIVE THREE CHEERS: A GILBERT AND SULLIVAN GALA. Anna also serves as the 2nd Vice President/Music Director for Carthage’s co-ed music fraternity, Lambda Kappa. Anna would like to thank all the faculty, friends, and family who have supported her during her time at Carthage as well as the entire cast and crew for making her final production an unforgettable one. Zoe Gatz (Candela) is a junior Music Theatre and Public Relations double major and is so excited to be back performing for a live audience once again. Past Carthage Mainstage performances include ROMEO AND JULIET WALK INTO A BAR (Allie/Juliet), KISS ME KATE (Ensemble), AWAY FROM THE MIRROR, SHIFT, RESONATE. Past Music Theater Workshops include YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN (Little Red Headed Girl), and Opera Workshop GIVE THREE CHEERS: A GILBERT AND SULLIVAN GALA. Zoe would like to thank her friends and family for the constant support, and a special thank you to Anna Brown for being the best friend a girl could have on and offstage. Enjoy the show! Allison Burns (Pepa’s Concierge/ Magistrate #1) is a senior Musical Theatre major. This is Allison’s second and final mainstage production of the season. Previous credits include PUFFS (Leanne), YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (Lucy), SISTER ACT, MY REAL MOTHER, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, and many more. Allison also serves as the Vice President of Alpha Psi Omega, the National Theatre Honors Fraternity. Allison has made so many wonderful friends and memories in her time at Carthage, and she would like to thank her friends and theatre faculty for giving her so many opportunities. She would also like to take a moment to thank her parents Rob and Mary Jane Burns. Without their constant love and endless support these last four years would not have been possible. Allison looks forward to beginning her professional career in the months to come, and has learned to appreciate every blessing in every day, because “sometimes you think you’re praying for one thing, but he knows better.” She thanks you for coming, and hopes you enjoy the show. Nicky Caldwell (Photographer/Malik/TV Repairman/Doctor) is a freshman Music Theatre major. Nicky’s previous Carthage rolls include Orpheus in EURYDICE on the mainstage and Raleigh in scenes from LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC in directing class scenes. Before coming to Carthage, he played Ugly in HONK!, Willy Wonka in WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, Lumiere in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and more. He is also a member of Carthage Choir. Previous credits at Carthage include MARIE ANTOINETTE (The Dauphin/The Servant), KISS ME KATE (Ensemble), ROMEO & JULIET WALK INTO A BAR (Professor Old Dude/ Devon/Steve), and EURYDICE (Father U/S) on the mainstage. Studio credits include SECRET OF THE WINGS (Mr.Fitzpatrik/Boy/Father of Seven Sons/Tony). Musical Theatre Workshop credits include FUN HOME (Bruce Bechdel) and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN (Charlie Brown). Elizabeth Henry (Marisa) is a senior double major in Theatre and Music Theatre with a Dance minor. Previous mainstage shows include PUFFS (Hannah/Others) and FIGHTING FOR HOME (Marine Officer). Studio productions include GOD OF CARNAGE (Veronica) and TWELFTH NIGHT (Sebastian). Music Theatre Workshop productions include SISTER ACT, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, and HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS…. Elizabeth is extremely grateful to be completing her senior thesis on a production with such a wonderful cast, crew, and production team. She would like to thank her family, friends, and cat for their constant love and support throughout her theatre journey here at Carthage. Natalie Lall (Lucia) is a junior double major in Theatre Performance and Political Science. Previous credits at Carthage include ROMEO AND JULIET WALK INTO A BAR (Toni), FIGHTING FOR HOME (Army Intel) and MARIE ANTOINETTE (Thérèse) on the mainstage as well as studio productions of SECRET IN THE WINGS and THE TAMING. Natalie is so grateful to be making theatre right now, and she wants to thank everyone involved in making this show happen as well as her family and friends. Massimo Manfredini (Ivan) is a sophomore Music Theatre major with a self-designed minor in Creative Arts Education. This is the second mainstage show he has been involved in, the first being KISS ME, KATE (Ensemble) before the pandemic took place. Massimo has also been involved in two workshop musicals directed by Maggie Spanuello, SWEET CHARITY (Officer Monty/Ensemble) and RIDE THE CYCLONE (Karnak). Massimo is so appreciative that he has been able to be a part of this production and wants to extend his thanks to all the crew and staff as well as his director Herschel Kruger for all his support and guidance. He would also like to thank all of his family and friends for all their support and love in his endeavors in theatre. He hopes you enjoy this show and have a great time! Tyler Meyer (Director/Ambite/Ensemble) is a junior Musical Theater & Marketing double major. Tyler’s previous credits on the Wartburg Mainstage include FLORA THE RED MENACE (Runner/Ensemble) and PUFFS (Oliver) both directed by Dr. Neil Scharnick, as well as KISS ME KATE! (Bill Calhoun) directed by Martin McClendon. Tyler has also previously appeared in numerous Musical Theater Workshops at Carthage College. These credits include RIDE THE CYCLONE (Noel Gruber), SWEET CHARITY (Oscar Linguist) and MY REAL MOTHER (Liam) directed by Magdalene Spanuello and SISTER ACT (Joey) directed by Thomas Novak. Tyler has also participated in numerous student directing scenes including GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES, CRY IT OUT, THE CHRISTIANS, and LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC as well as Carthage’s fall dance show, SHIFT. Although it may feel like everyone is on the verge during these trying times, Tyler is grateful for the ability to create and share theater with others.
cast biographies Matthew Pakkebier (Carlos) is a junior Musical Theatre and Music Education double major. He was last seen on the mainstage in AWAY FROM THE MIRROR, KISS ME KATE (Paul), FLYING AND FALLING, SHIFT, FLORA THE RED MENACE (Kenny), and RESONATE. Other performances at Carthage include studio show SMOKEFALL (Colonel/Johnny) and musical theatre workshop SWEET CHARITY (Vidal), and SISTER ACT (TJ). Matthew would like to thank all of his family, friends, and teachers for their continued support. Genevieve Paur (Magistrate #3 and Makeup Artist) is a first year at Carthage College with a double major in Music Theater and Spanish. Genevieve performed as May, from THE LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC, in last semester’s directing scenes. Genevieve is excited to perform for you tonight and hopes to continue being onstage and bringing you entertainment in the future. Caitlin Preuss (Paulina) is a sophomore Music Theatre and Directing double major, and a dance minor. Caitlin is so glad to have been given the opportunity to be a part of WOMEN ON THE VERGE... Carthage performance credits: Marine Intel in FIGHTING FOR HOME, Jennie/Mercutio in ROMEO AND JULIET WALK INTO A BAR. This past fall, she also had the chance to choreograph the Music Theater Workshop’s production of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN. Upcoming: co-direction of BETRAYAL alongside Herschel Kruger, Fall 2021. As always, Caitlin thanks her mentors, professors, friends, and family for being by her side through every season of life. Enjoy the show! Rachel Skowronski (Christina/Detective) is a junior double majoring in Music Theatre and Communications with a minor in Dance. This is her eighth mainstage performance, the others including ROMEO AND JULIET WALK INTO A BAR, PUFFS, THE HANDBOOK, RESONATE, SHIFT, FLYING AND FALLING and AWAY FROM THE MIRROR. Other Carthage productions include Musical Theatre Workshops: SWEET CHARITY, Songs and Scenes from FUN HOME, and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, as well as Directing Scenes: GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES, and THE MOORS. She would like to thank Herschel for the opportunity to perform in this show, the wonderful cast and crew for all their hard work, and her friends and family. @_rachelskowronski Emily Jean Zerger (Rosalia/Security Guard) is a fourth year student majoring in Physics and Music Theatre with minors in Dance and Spanish. Emily Jean has performed in other productions at Carthage, including the Music Theatre Workshop productions of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING and SISTER ACT, and she is very excited to be a part of the mainstage production of WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. Over the years, Emily Jean has also participated in many dance shows and presented original choreography in the last production of AWAY FROM THE MIRROR. student production team biographies Hannah Czaplicki (Assistant Stage Manager) is a sophomore Music Theatre major. She was last seen on the mainstage as Meghan/Department Chair/Nurse/Space Tree in ROMEO AND JULIET WALK INTO A BAR and was also in KISS ME, KATE (Gangster #1) before the pandemic hit. Other Carthage performances include CRY IT OUT (Lina), LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC (May), and THE ACUPUNCTURIST (Patient) as a part of the Directing Scenes. She is currently a part of this semester’s Music Theatre Workshop. Hannah would like to give a shoutout to her family and friends for all their endless love and support. She also wants to give a shoutout to this incredible cast and crew for making her first stage management experience one she’ll always remember. Lauren Hammes (Stage Manager) is a sophomore transfer student double majoring in music education and vocal performance, as well as minoring in theatre. This is Lauren’s second mainstage production here at Carthage, her first being EURYDICE as an assistant stage manager. Lauren also played the role of May in THE LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC for the fall semester’s directing scenes. Before coming to Carthage, Lauren played the role of Mary Poppins in MARY POPPINS, Anna in THE KING AND I, Sandy in GREASE and more. Lauren would like to thank her new friends in the theatre program for all of their support. Lauren would also like to thank her parents, and her sister for always encouraging her to do her best and supporting her through everything. She hopes you enjoy the show! Emily Imig (Properties) is a senior general theater major, with an emphasis on the technical side of things. Earlier this semester, she was the property master of EURYDICE, a Mainstage show. Since attending Carthage College, she has been the stage manager for the Mainstage production of PUFFS and SHIFT, a dance show. She has also assisted stage-managed in FIGHTING FOR HOME, a Mainstage production, and AWAY FROM THE MIRROR, a dance show. She was the spot operator for the Mainstage musical INTO THE WOODS. Before college, Emily was involved in all of her high school theater productions, as well as volunteering at Lake Country Playhouse, a local community theater. Emily would like to thank family and friends for their love and support and especially James Sevens, for being a great mentor.
faculty biographies Herschel Kruger (Director) Professor Herschel Kruger joined the Carthage faculty in 2005. He is the current Region III Chair of the Kennedy Center, American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). During the 2008-2009 school year Professor Kruger established the New Play Initiative commissioning original works each year for the Carthage Theatre Program. He has directed four of the new plays from this series including UP AND AWAY, written by Eric Simonson (KCACTF Citizen Artist Award, Distinguished Costume Design, and nine Commendations for Distinguished Achievement, 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe participant) NO NAME, written by Jeffrey Hatcher (2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe participant), GHOST BIKE, written by Laura Jacqmin (2013, five KCACTF national awards including; Distinguished New Play, Directing, Lighting Design, Sound Design, and Outstanding Scenic Design) HONEST, written by Eric Simonson (2010, winner of four KCACTF national awards including Distinguished Curricular Development, Playwriting, and two Distinguished Performance awards). Additionally, Herschel directed the staged reading of Mikaley Osley’s one-act play MATILDA’S CHARACTER, which was named a KCACTF Region III winner. Other directing credits at Carthage include A DOLL’S HOUSE, 2, MARIE ANTOINETTE, SILENT SKY, STAGE KISS, MAN OF LA MANCHA, DAY AFTER NIGHT, SPRING AWAKENING,CABARET, INSPECTING CAROL, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, LYSISTRATA, MOON OVER BUFFALO, BLOOD BROTHERS, PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, POSTMORTEM, INDEPENDENCE, and the entire OVER THE TAVERN TRILOGY trilogy including OVER THE TAVERN , KING O’ THE MOON, and LAST MASS AT ST. CASMIRS. Professor Kruger teaches both acting and directing classes, and a variety of other theatre classes. He has led seven separate J-Term study tours to Greece, New York City (five), and Germany to study theatre. He has worked as an actor and director in New York, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. Prof. Kruger earned his MFA in acting from the University of Illinois, is a graduate of the National Shakespeare Conservatory Professional Actors Training program in New York City, and holds a BA in Theatre Communication from Cardinal Stritch University. Jeremy Ryan Mossman (Music Director) has been a part of the Carthage family for the last four years and has either directed, musically directed, or contributed choreography to productions including INTO THE WOODS, IT’S A WOMAN’S WORLD, ADDAMS FAMILY, FLORA THE RED MENACE, and is thrilled to be on the team bringing WOMEN ON THE VERGE to the Wartburg stage. Outside of Carthage, Jeremyhas directed and/or musically directed dozens of shows in Michigan and Ontario, and was nominated for a Wilde Award for his musical direction of ORDINARY DAYS at The Tipping Point Theatre in Northville, MI. As a performer, Jeremy has performed in national tours, regional theaters, and on cruise ships and most recently developed and performed a solo song cycle called, “This is How I Feel, This is What I Think,” which debuted at Carthage and went on to win the Julie Wilson Cabaret Award at the SaraSolo Festival in Sarasota, Florida in 2019. Outside of theatre and music Jeremy is a 500 hour certified yoga instructor, midway through Feldenkrais certification, and studies the nature of movement through biotensegrity. Maureen Chavez- Kruger (Scenic Designer) believes that theatre is a collaborative art discipline. The success of a production relies on the ability of theatre artists to come together and create a unified vision that supports the words of the playwright. As the Scenic Designer, her job is to give physical form to the words contained within the script. Through research, script analysis, and discussions with the director, the design for the show is defined and shaped. The scenic designer uses the following items to communicate the design: period research, vision boards, full set of ½” designer drafting, ½” paint elevations, ¼” blueprint model, and a research packet for the production of properties. These items are shared with the rest of the design team (lighting designer, costume designer, technical director, scenic charge, and property master) to ensure the show fulfills a cohesive vision. Maureen’s regional design work includes produc-
faculty biographies tions at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, First Stage Milwaukee, Next Act Theatre, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, and UW-Milwaukee: Peck School of the Arts. She holds an adjunct teaching appointment at Carthage College, serves as a guest designer, and Co-Professor of J-term Trips in New York and Greece. Maureen’s most recent scenic designs at Carthage include SPRING AWAKENING, NO NAME, DAY AFTER NIGHT, A SEAT AT THE TABLE, MARIE ANTOINETTE, and ROMEO AND JULIET WALK INTO A BAR. She holds an MFA in Scene Design from Boston University and served six years as a Board Member for Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (2014-2020). Kristina Saldarelli (Choreographer) is a dance educator and choreographer from the Chicagoland area. She received her BA in Theatre Arts: Dance from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and her MA in Communication, Media, and Theatre from Northeastern Illinois University. She is pursuing her MFA in Dance at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee starting this summer. Kristina is an Adjunct Instructor of Dance at Carthage College where she teaches jazz and tap technique courses. She directs Carthage’s student choreographed concert AWAY FROM THE MIRROR (2016, 2018, 2020, 2021) and regularly choreographs for the annual fall dance concert. She is the choreographer for the 2021 spring musical, WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. Kristina performed, toured, taught, and choreographed with JUMP RHYTHM® Jazz Project, a rhythm and energy-based performance company from 20052018. Her work has been adjudicated at American College Dance Festival, produced in professional concert venues, and ranked highly in national youth competitions. She was a Guest Adjunct Lecturer of Jump Rhythm® Technique at Northwestern University and as a freelance choreographer and teaching artist, she educates and mentors dance students throughout the Midwest. Kim Instenes (Costume Designer) Kim works as a freelance costume and makeup designer in the Milwaukee/Chicago area in addition to teaching Costumes and Makeup at Carthage. Professional design credits include SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE JERSEY LILY, DOUBT and JEEVES INTERVENES at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, MARY JANE at Forward Theater, THE GIVER, BIG; THE MUSICAL and THE SNOW at First Stage Children’s Theater, ROMEO AND JULIET at Milwaukee Shakespeare as well as work at Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Renaissance Theaterworks, Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Racine Theatre Guild. As the faculty costume designer, she has designed SILENT SKY, A SEAT AT THE TABLE (new play by Regina Taylor) and INTO THE WOODS, to name a few. She holds an MFA in costume design and technology from Ohio University and a BA in theatre from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Ellenelle Gilliam (Assistant Music Director) joined Carthage College in the fall of 2020 as a Graduate Student in the Master of Music program as well as an Adjunct Voice Faculty. She received her BA in Music Education from Augustana College in 2016 and has spent her time since graduating in Guyana (South America) as a music teacher and music director at the Georgetown International Academy. Prior to WOMEN ON THE VERGE, Ellenelle has served as the music director for SHREK, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and WIZARD OF OZ through theatre companies outside of Carthage College.

Kennedy Center education and related artistic programming is made possible through the generosity of the National Committee for the Performing Arts. This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels. Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the KCACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance. Last year more than 1,500 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.
