a note from lydia Welcome to Typos! You’re not going to find a list of songs in this program - I like to keep some secrets up my sleeves. Instead, I offer you an invitation! I invite you all to enjoy the surprise and to lean in (none of this “sit back and relax” business). This show wouldn’t be half as fun without you here, so let’s enjoy it together! I would like to take this opportunity to give a quick couple of thank you’s. Thank you to special guests, Katie Engler and Mireya Magallon, for humoring me with these songs! Thank you to Yu-Mei Chang and Linda Madonia for turning my crazy ideas into actual music on the keys. Thank you to Dr. Ness and all of the faculty at Carthage who have helped me in my continuing academic journey and made me realize that, despite my whining, I probably have a few more years left of school in me. And finally, thank you to my family, my chosen family, my students and peers - I don’t have the right words to say how truly thankful I am for you all. I would go crazy without you! I dedicate this performance to the voice professors that have lit the path and guided me along the way: Dr. Bill at Oklahoma City University for not giving up on me even when I thought about quitting; to Jackie Grigg and Joseph Hitchcock for being the ultimate hype team and getting me back in school; Jeremy Mossman for encouraging me to explore in ways I never have before; Elena Batman for your patience as you taught me how to breathe in character and out music; and Matthew Hougland for your trust and confidence, without which I’m not sure I would’ve made it onstage today.
biographies Lydia Wagner Outside of the theatre, you can usually find Lydia dancing in her kitchen, curled up with a blanket and a memoir, or baking cakes for her friends (her favorite quarantine hobby). Lydia firmly believes in creating work that questions norms, affects change, and inspires laughter. Favorite roles include: Rocky Horror Show (Magenta), Company (Sarah), A Little Night Music (ASM), and producing her cabaret series Open Pages. Lydia holds a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre from Oklahoma City University and is finishing her Masters in Music in Music Theatre Vocal Pedagogy at Carthage College. lydia-wagner.com Yu-Mei Chang (piano) is a graduate student at Carthage College majoring in Music Theatre Vocal Pedagogy. She is a music director and keyboard player active on theatre stages both in Taiwan and China. Her previous MD, MD assistant, and keyboard credits include: Mamma Mia!, Avenue Q, How to Succeed…, Daddy Long Legs, Murder Ballad, I Love You, You’re Perefct, Now Change, Laundry, Midnihgt Diner, Jekyll and Hyde, and The Phantom of the Opera (international tour). Previous Carthage credits include: Something Rotten, She Loves Me, The Last Five Years.
