flying high with nasa Want to be an astronaut? Join the club. And we mean that literally. For more than a decade, Carthage’s Microgravity Team, led by physics professor Kevin Crosby, has partnered with NASA and commercial aerospace firms to solve problems in space. Every year, members fly with a Carthage payload aboard a zero-gravity aircraft, going weightless as they test technology key to returning astronauts to the moon. Last year, for the third time, Carthage’s Modal Propellant Gauging technology was selected for flight aboard a Blue Origin rocket. Next stop: The International Space Station in 2023. Carthage is the lead institution for the NASA Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium, which supports students through scholarships, research opportunities, and NASA internships around the country. Eight Carthage students have been awarded highly competitive NASA Center internships in just the past two years.

commuters Of course, living on campus doesn’t make sense for everyone. New students who live within 30 miles or meet other criteria can request to opt out of Carthage housing. Commuters can get much of the full college experience by using the facilities, joining clubs, using meal points at campus eateries, and introducing friends to local hotspots. In Student Government, two seats are allotted to commuters to ensure they have a voice.
