acknowledgements Bailey is extremely grateful to have been surrounded by such encouraging company throughout her music education. She especially thanks the following people: her family and friends for their kindness and consistent support; her high school band director Tim Blakewell for his inspiration and model attitude; Hideko Amano, whose compassion and teaching have shaped her flute playing and mindset, and Jenny Bouton, whose insights and patience have been indispensable in the recital preparation process; Fumi Nakayama for collaborating with and coaching her these past few years; James Ripley and Edward Kawakami for their invaluable mentorship throughout her development as a musician and educator; and lastly, Lexy Klawonn, whose friendship, talent, humor, and perseverance inspire her every day. Lexy would first like to thank the Carthage music department for helping her grow as a musician, educator, and person. She would especially like to thank Dr. James Ripley and Barbara Drapcho – who have guided her in many musical (and non-musical) ways, as well as Melissa Cardamone, who has been an amazing accompanist for these past few years. In addition, Lexy would like to recognize her family, friends, and boyfriend who have always shown the utmost love and support for her. Lastly, she would like to thank dear friend, roommate, recital partner, and her favorite flute angel Bailey Schneyr for continually providing her with support, laughs, love, and knowledge, and for being her constant during her time here at Carthage.
