Mah, I really don’t know what to say … but I miss you more every day.
I’ve heard you call my name a couple of times. I’ve heard the oxygen machine; I’m still walking with my cell phone in my hand just in case you call or text me. I want to thank you for being a good mother to me. I want to thank you for riding for me. I want to thank you for raising me up to be the woman I am today. I hope I made you proud, and I hope you were happy with the way I took care of you. I know I got on your nerves being the bad cop and Vernon being the good cop, but in the end, you know it was about your well-being. You started your life out rough but ended it like the queen you are.
Job well done, Mom. Job well done. Until we see each other again, brand new.
Love,

You are my biggest blessing. In my final moments with you, I told you thank you, even though I wasn't sure you could even hear me. I don't think I told you that enough, how much I appreciated you, how grateful I was for you, or how much I loved you.

Dear Mom
It took maturity, life experience, and adulthood before I even truly understood how much I needed you, but God knew. I guess that's why he chose you to be my mom.
Even though I didn't always “get it” as a kid, and we were polar opposites as adults, I would choose you to be my mom in every lifetime. He went through so much in life, yet you didn't let it break you. You are a light in a World of Darkness, resilient, genuine, and good hearted. I guess that's why you were loved by so many.
I knew we wouldn't be together forever, but I wanted so much more time with you. I thought I had more time, so how do I go on? How do I live knowing I can't pick up to the phone and call you, come see you, or have you by my side for life’s milestone moments? They say time heals, but I don't know if I ever fully will, because no one and nothing can ever replace what you were to me.
I love you. You will forever live in my heart, and I pray that someday we'll get to be together again. Someday when the pages of my life end, I know that you will be one of the most beautiful doors”. – Unknown
And yes, I know I'm not getting any younger. So, if you're not already up there working on it send my husband. Thanks!
I love you mom,

Searching and searching for the right words, dedication was the word that kept popping into my head.
So, I dedicated my words to my Aunt Octavia and my Uncle Renaldo. If tears allow, there is also a moment to laugh. I dedicate my words to my aunt and uncle as homage to her and the dedication she showed through her book Broken Wings. If you don't know, she was an author, a public speaker, a survivor, and an activist for her cause.
Her cause was abuse, because abuse is real. She was determined to ensure that the pain she endured from abuse would not become the cause of another person's abuse.
Most people would only care about their own pain and the abuse that caused it. However, my grandmother was not concerned with her pain as much as she was concerned about the e ect that her abuse, and her husband's abuse, would have on her children.
While writing that book, my siblings and I were little kids. However, those were not the last words the world would read from her. Her next book was entitled War of Matrimony. In this book, she talks about her values of marriage and the war she went through to honor the sanctity of marriage. During the period when she was writing this book, we were not little kids anymore. You would have to read the dedication of that book to understand, lol.
Nonetheless, her dedication remained: "To know what life could be like without parents or even with some parents." She told you. She covered you with her wings to protect you and teach you how to fly. In that moment, her mission was for you, her children, and her message was to lead any child who had experienced abuse to God.
However, God had di erent plans and placed the love upon her heart to cover us with those same wings. I believe He did that so that on this day I could testify to you that we were protected and taught to fly. I will watch you soar and consider it an honor to her legacy. I will continue to encourage my siblings to soar and consider it an honor to her legacy.

And I promise: I will continue to soar in honor of her legacy. As well, I will continue on with her words, so they do not have to be the last.
Andre "Mannie"
Mama,
I just wanted to tell you how much I love you. You are, and forever will be, the “why” behind my change and the reason I became the man I am today. When the world felt heavy, when I gave up on myself, you never once gave up on me. Your fierce belief in me was my anchor.
Through your actions and grace, you taught me the true meaning of sincerity, accountability, an unwavering faith in God, and above all, unconditional love. Even though you couldn’t be there physically to watch me walk across the stage as I graduated from college, I felt you there and beside me, cheering me on in spirit. I carry your and your heart with me every day.
Thank you God for blessing me with my Mama and thank you Mama for being a guardian angel. Watch over me and protect me until we see each other again.
Love you forever,

Yes, I will miss your calls.
Every day I would get a call, and you would talk about what happened on the price is right show. We would also chat about memories.
And I would always let you know when Betty Davis or Joan Crawford movies would come on. You would tell me you're putting on makeup and getting dressed in case company was coming over. I will tell you I'm just wearing moo moo.

Whenever you knew company was coming over you would make your famous deviled eggs, bean dip, salmon rolls and relish tray. We all knew that you loved to entertain. I know you're in heaven now laughing and talking about times here on earth.

Have the deviled eggs, bean dip, salmon rolls and relish tray waiting for me when I get there. And I will be wearing my moo moo.
Love and miss you. Your sister.
