A MINUTE WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER November is the month of gratitude and thanksgiving. I would like to acknowledge my appreciation to our membership and staff. Together we create the environment of the club and the future. I am thankful for everyone’s dedication as The Carriage Club evolves to preserve its heritage while we take it to the next level. Thank you to all the members who serve on our boards and committees and to everyone who supports the club day in and day out throughout the year. It is an honor to serve as your General Manager. The Carriage Club is embarking on a very interesting project, and I am not speaking of the renovations, but our history book. Heather Paxton, formally from The Independent Magazine, and writer of the history of The Kansas City Country Club, The American Royal, the Jewel Ball and the Kansas City Board of Trade has been retained to capture the story of The Carriage Club’s history over the past seven decades. Over the past two years as your GM, I have had many long-time members share some history lessons/stories about the club. Some of these “history lessons” may or may not be recorded in the books, but there is a rich history to tell. If you have any articles or photos that could contribute and help record the history of The Carriage Club, please drop them off at the reception desk in an envelope with your name and they will be returned to you after it has been reviewed. This is a rare opportunity to share 70 years of history and tell the story from the beginning about our unique club. The books are tentatively scheduled to be published by Spring 2025. Speaking of history, this year marks the 60th Anniversary of the ICE Show. We are ready to get ICE underway. If mother nature behaves, we are on track to having the ice rink open by the weekend of November 10th. Looking forward to a great season of ICE. The membership is holding strong at 639 members. I want to give a shout out to the 71 members who paid the special capital fund up front adding a quick $631,109 to the fund. This is the dedication which I referred to above, thank you! We knew members would reevaluate their membership with the special capital fund and we are making conscious efforts to retain and recruit members. In that effort, the membership committee and Board of Directors have reinstated the new member bounty. I currently have two applications for membership that are posted for approval next month. As I close and reflect on the past two years, my words from last year could not ring truer. Nothing can be taken for granted. Our positive culture is always a work in progress that can be broken, and all goodwill erased with a break in trust or character. Thank you again for putting your trust in me to be your General Manager as we continue to move forward. See you at the Club,

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Greetings, As I write this letter, the weather in Kansas City has quickly turned to much cooler temperatures. Ice season is just around the corner. Bret and his team will be laying the ice as soon as feasibly possible, though we can generally count on a mid-November or earlier start to the season. The hockey and figure skating programs have grown over the past several years with many new families joining the Club in 2020 and 2021. I am particularly proud of the growth in girls’ hockey where our participation surpasses national averages (USA Hockey). Contact Simon for “learn to skate” and “little penguins- learn to play hockey” options offered weekly for your little ones. Don’t forget that we also have adult hockey options for both women and men. No prior skating experience is necessary. As a D-league member (D obviously stands for developmental), I can assure that that you’ll enjoy yourself and get a great workout while you’re at it! Many families join our Club specifically for the winter activities we provide. In addition to skating, we continue to offer a great racquet facility under the bubbles. One sport that has gained increased popularity at the Club is platform tennis (or “paddle”) played outside in the cages- usually during the winter months. There is a great city league (KC Paddle League) in addition to casual matches or clinics that can be arranged by our racquet staff. All are welcome to experience the sport- I can tell you that I was personally hooked after playing just one match with friends. At our October meeting, the Board of Directors voted to re-instate our referral “bonus” offered to members that successfully recruit friends for initiation. This $1,000 bonus is offered to primary sponsors only. As the Board anticipated, we did see a reduction in membership as the result of the most recent assessment. While we never want to lose members, the vast majority of those that departed were infrequent visitors to the Club. Moreover, we likely pulled forward a fair number of resignations that would have occurred in subsequent periods. That said, we have room for new members and winter is a great time to introduce friends, colleagues, or acquaintances to the Carriage Club. If you do bring prospective members to visit, be sure to advise David or Courtland ahead of time. Until next month, November Financial Snapshot

PILATES CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Core Challenge Extra focus on core strength and mobility, bringing attention to centered, full body movement. A great class for everyone, including those working to increase balance and reduce pain and stiffness in the back, neck, and hips. Lean and Lengthen A class flow focusing on the lengthening and strengthening movements of Pilates. This workout will utilize a larger range of motion to find functional flexibility and ease of movement. Time Under Tension Utilize the principles of Pilates to promote better control and reliable balance. This endurance workout incorporates more elements of holding and stamina, using the breath for deeper engagement and connection. Jump Board Sculpt Use the jump board and rebound tramp for a low impact cardiovascular workout unlike anything else. Get back to your inner child jumping while lying down. Safe for the knees and joints, fun for all levels and abilities. Hips and Knees Dive deeper into lower body alignment and safety. A full body workout emphasizing hip flexion and range of motion, knee stability, and leg mobility. We will work to balance muscle groups and promote healthy movement patterns for any lifestyle. Teenage Cross Training Designed for teenage athletes, skaters, and dancers. Challenges students in new ways to prevent injury and support balance. Increases power, agility, and precision. Crosstrain like professional athletes. HIIT Reformer Pilates An interval training class designed to include periods of high intensity movement and periods of low intensity strength challenges. The high intensity periods of the class are certain to increase the heart rate, adding a cardio aspect to the workout.
Tower Power An energetic tower flow, utilizing the tower apparatus for sculpting and challenging all muscle groups. The level to this class is intermediate/advanced and best not recommended for those with knee problems. Mat and Props Get back to the DNA of Pilates on the mat. There is something new to experience each class as we explore bands, Pilates rings, fitness balls, and weights. Back to Basics Tower/Reformer & Essential Pilates 50 minute class learning the fundamentals of Pilates, having fun using the tower and reformer. Strengthen and stretch muscles you didn’t even know you had. You will learn what neutral spine is and how to strengthen it, so you stand taller, feel & look better. Mixed Level Tower/Reformer 50 minute class for all levels using the tower and reformer to strengthen your whole body and increase your range of motion. Modifications will be provided throughout this class so each person will be challenged no matter their level. Intermediate Reformer/Tower 50 minute class for the intermediate level who knows how to keep their body in neutral and can have fun being challenged with mid to upper level exercises. Advanced & Power Reformer High energy Reformer flow with opportunities to increase resistance and stamina. Great for individuals confident with spinal stabilization who are exploring ways to challenge themselves. Release Active Stretch Pilates Equipment 50 minute class to increase your flexibility. Relax, and enjoy being guided through a series of exercises and stretches on the mat and equipment. Active stretching benefits both neuromuscular and mental health as you release tension, helping to detoxify and regenerate healthy cells throughout your whole body. Tower/Reformer & Mindfulness Meditation 50 minute class w 40 – 45 minutes of a whole body workout challenging your muscles with strength and flexibility using the tower and/or reformer. The class will close with 5 – 10 minutes of a guided mindfulness meditation that will leave you calm, centered, and revitalized! This class is good for all levels.

ICE RINK NEWS Hello Carriage Club Ice Skating Families, Another Ice Skating season is upon us! The Ice Rink is scheduled to open on Friday, November 10th with Open Skate, and a DJ! All of this is of course weather permitting. Please refer to our website, www.thecarriageclub.com for all Ice Rink schedules. As a reminder, children 12 years of age or under must always have an adult present at the rink or in the Coach House building while the child is using the facilities. All children are to remain within the Ice Rink, Warming Room and Snack Bar areas. We also ask that all members (children and adult) to please register their guests at the Skate Office window upon entering the club. Guest fees are $6/person and Skate Rentals are $6/person seven days a week, except Friday’s where Guest fees are $11/person. Friday Night Showcases This year on select Friday’s the Figure and Hockey Programs will host Friday Night Showcases from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. During this time the Ice Rink will be close to Open Skate for one hour for either a Hockey game or Figure skating performance. We invite all members to come cheer on and watch all participating! Open Skate will resume at the conclusion of the showcases. Private Figure Lessons & Adult Figure Skating Classes All Figure Skating private lessons will be available to schedule on the website under the Figure Skating Lessons tab. Adult Figure skating class will be held on Thursdays from 10:00am-11:00am and Saturdays 9:30am10:00am. Please contact kelsey@thecarriageclub.com to sign-up. Hockey Program Hockey games started October 28-29 and official ice practices will start once our rink is open. More information will be shared by our Director of Hockey, Simon Watson, closer to the opening of the ice rink. For more information on all hockey games please go to www.kcyouthhockey.com. Skate Sharpening The Ice Rink staff is available to sharpen both Hockey and recreational Figure skates in-house. Hockey Sharpening will be $9 per pair and Figure Sharpening will be $11 per pair. For those that need their Competitive High End Figure Skates sharpened we have set up a service with Alice Snyder of www.dreamskateskc.com to come and pick up your skates from the club every Wednesday and Saturday following figure skating classes and they will be returned to the club within 2 days of sharpening. Alice will charge $22 per pair to sharpen your skates. Ice Rink Parties Would you like to hold a gathering or party at the rink? Please reach out to Becca@thecarriageclub.com to schedule your event. A member must be present at the rink throughout the duration of the event as the acting host. Dates and times are limited so book today!
