work and gather. They are the first to greet you at the door and can be found statioiied or patrolling throughout the Carnegie Community Centre. Regularl)J tliey are called upon to resolve conflicts and support staff or patrons in moments of need, Carnegie Security is represented by a diverse team of individuals dedicated to service. Security and unifcimis go hand-in-hand` so when it was recognized by.the Indigenous Advisory Committee arid the team that there was an opportunity to modify the exlsting uniforms to better represent the Indigenous community, Carnegie enlisted the help of seasoned Indigenous artist Sam Mckay. Born on May 17,1948 in the village of Laxgalta'ap, formerly known as Greeiiville Nass River. British Ct)lumbia` Sam's exposure to Northv`i'est Coast Art from his grandfather, in conjunction with his family.s history of raising great carvers. led to his passion for art and made him the ideal candidate to assist the team in the new redesign. Using the Carnegie logo as a template. Sam created a new design - an Eagle nestled inside the C`arn€gie that was embroidered on the shoulder of the Security uniforms. The emblem was met with unaiiimous praise and excitement from the staff. patrons, and community members. aiid is \`i'om proudly by the meinbers of the Carnegie Security team. Thalck You. Sam ! "

Last month, we heard a presentation t`rom our Director and two city plai`ning staff abo`it acti\/rating the old Ba]moral I lotel site for the next two years. While this plan seems better than doing nothiiig, our Board voted to let you know that we are hoping the city will be ready to start buildiiig shelter-rate housing on the site as soon as the 2 years ot` activation are up, or even sooiier. Both tlie Balmoral and the Regeiit have been closed and `Jacant since 2017. There ls no sign of reno\ration work, ai`d there is no public plan for eitlier bujlding's future We recently leamed that thei.e are nearl}' 3,500 individuals on social assis,lance `\/ithout a permanent address ill Vancouver. This docs not iliclude seniors :ind tliose who are homeless but not receiviiig \\Jelfare.
