AfterofficiallystartingC&KDesign in2012,ittookmetwoyearsuntilI finally listened to advice from my husband, Russ. Being a graduate of UNC Business School, I thought I prettymuchknewwhatittooktorun yourownbusiness(howhardcouldit be?),butturnsoutIknewhowtorun ahobby, notabusiness(thosewere

hiswords) Tothisday, heisthefirst person I call when I need to talk “business”

Doyouhaveanyfavoriteleadership or personal development books or videos?

Inthebeginning, tworandompeople told me to read “The E-Myth Revisited,” by Michael E. Gerber. Theywereright, itisamustreadfor entrepreneurs! The biggest lesson in thebook:justbecauseyouknowhow to bake, does not mean you should own a bakery In other words, your craft is the “ easy ” part, running the businesscantakeyoudown.

On a Friday afternoon, where can wefindyou?

I am a social butterfly I am content alonealldayinmyworkroomsewing, listeningtoaudiobooks(Iamanavid bookandpodcastlistener),butbythe weekendIneedtofindfriends.Russ andIwillsay,“let’sgotoCarmeland grab a drink” and suddenly Moira LocascioandIareshuttingdownthe bar with Tim’s espresso martinis (he makesthebestones).

Please share your favorite part about being a member of Carmel WomeninBusiness. Iremembergoingtothefirstmeeting andlisteningtothewomenintroduce themselves around me and all I kept hearingis“IamthePresident,”“Iam the CEO,” “I just won an Oscar,” (kidding)andIwaslike-“Isew"At firstIthought, maybeIdon’tbelong here, butthenIquicklyrealizedhow awesomeourclubwas.WeareNOT just “country club” women. Now I encourageeverywomantocome.Itry and always bring a guest I have had friends say “but I don’t have a job” but I say who cares? It’s not a competition You never know who you are going to meet because one day, you might want to volunteer or start a second career Or maybe you willtalktomeandIwillconvinceyou tostartsewing

I help keep the pool area clean, safe, and readyforourmemberseveryday Icleanand stocktherestrooms, pickuptrashandused towels, and make sure clean towels are always available. I also wash, dry, and fold towelsthroughouttheday(usuallyabout15 to 20 loads), and even more on busy holidays like the 4th of July. My days are busy, and I stay active making sure everythingrunssmoothly.
