The start of a new year is generally a busytimefortheBoardaswewelcome ourthreenewBoardmembers,finalize ourgoalsandobjectivesforthecalendar year, and plan for the upcoming governancecycle
TheBoardalongwithCarmel’sleadershipteamcametogether onJanuary22foraone-dayretreatinwhichwereviewedthe mainobjectivesoftheClub’s2025StrategicPlanandoutlined ourprioritiesforthecomingyearthatwouldcontinuetomove usfurtheralonginachievingthoseobjectives
Broadly,theBoardwillfocusonthefollowing:
1)ContinueitsupdateoftheRedbook
2) Facilitate a better understanding of our Club’s funding modelthrougheducationandenhancedtransparency.

MywifeChelsea,grewupinVermont and I grew up in Asheville, NC We metinCharlottein2007,marriedin 2010,andhavethreegreatdaughters: Ellie(11),Maggie(11),andSadie(9).
We also have a five year old red lab namedGus.
Tell us about your professional background.
IgraduatedfromNCStateUniversity with a Civil Engineering degree and began my professional career with Wayne Brothers Companies I’ve beenthereover20yearsandwatched the company grow from a small concrete company to a large full service specialty design build contractor that works across the Southeast, with in house engineering as well as a material sales and equipmentbusiness.

Wejoinedinearly2020,rightwhen

the clubhouse shut down for renovation and then Covid shut down everything else in the world. We’ll never forget that first year at Carmel andallthegreatpeoplewe met.
What motivated you to joinCarmel?
We put in our application tojoinCarmelinlate2019,
afterplayingintheMemberGuestthat year We had family and friends at other clubs but never considered joiningoneuntilwecametoCarmel Itfeltlikeourkindofpeopleandour kindofplaceassoonaswesetfooton campus.
WhatisoneofyourfavoriteCarmel memoriesortraditions?
It’s hard to name just one We have loved camp outs, Halloween parties, gingerbreadhousedecoratingandeven thewintersleddingevent Butoneof my favorite memories at Carmel was the summer after Covid hit and the Thursday night golf group, followed bybirdieburgersattheTrolley,while theClubhousewasunderrenovation
Whatisyourfavoritemenuitemat theclub?
My go to is the Cobb salad with buffalo chicken. Upstairs, we used to have steak frites that you could pair with a pesto gnocchi which was the best!

Notmuchweekendgolfortennisfor the Rhodes family, unfortunately. Our girls are active in basketball and soccerandthattakesupmostofour time. Ilovecoachingmykids'sportsteams Tocloseoutthe2023season,ourgirls pulled off the upset win over the undefeatedCharlotteJuniorU10girls soccer team that was coached by Carmel’s own Jordan Quinn and Tom FitzGerald. Considering that Tomisaformercollegiateathleteand Jordan was an MLS star, it was a coaching high point for this ole construction worker Picture Ted LassomeetstheMiracleonIce!
