In other words, a perfect day for the 13th annual Lamont County Reeve’s Golf Tournament at Whitetail Crossing Golf Club at Mundare - and 140 golfers came out to take part. According to tournament organizer Lamont Economic Development manager, Shane Olson, mulligan sales alone brought in $2,020 for the County of Lamont Food Bank, the beneficiary of the tournament. He added the Food Bank’s portion of the 50/50 sales was $1,227.50. While all final invoices are not yet in, Olson hoped to have a rough final amount of money raised for the Aug. 25 regular council meeting. “We’re grateful to everyone who
Local schools prepare to welcome students back for a new year BY MELISSA MACINTOSH-YOUNG
As summer winds down, schools throughout the area are preparing to open their doors and welcome students back for another school year. With classrooms being prepared, staff returning and families getting ready for the first day, local principals say there is plenty of excitement about the year ahead. At Lamont Elementary, principal Marlis Marler said staff are excited to welcome students back on Aug. 31. Families will have an opportunity to get a head start on the new school
year during the school’s Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, Aug. 27. The evening will give students and their families a chance to see their classrooms, meet their teachers and learn more about where students will be spending their school days. Over at Lamont High School, there are some changes in both leadership and the building itself. Principal Peter Vandermeulen, who served as assistant principal last year, has stepped into the role of principal for the new school year. Eric Wooden joins the administrative team as the
new assistant principal. The school will host a Drop-In Meet the Teacher Night on Sept. 9 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Students will also return to some physical changes at Lamont High School, including a renovated science lab. Vandermeulen said the improvements will help enhance learning opportunities for students. In Bruderheim, principal Melanie Buckley said staff at Bruderheim Elementary are also looking forward to welcoming families back. The school’s Meet the Teacher Night will take place Thursday, Aug. 27, from
3:30 to 5 p.m. Bruderheim Elementary is also preparing to welcome the new ELM Pre-K program this year. The program joins the school’s existing PALS program, with both providing early intervention and skill development opportunities designed to help prepare young children for kindergarten. For students, the return to school marks the beginning of a new year filled with new lessons, new experiences and opportunities to reconnect with friends and classmates. More Back to School Pages 6-7
