Man charged for shooting incident at South Cooking Lake On Nov. 13, 2024, just after 10 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a shooting at a residence in South Cooking Lake. Upon arrival, Strathcona County RCMP found a 43-year-old male with serious injuries, a 38-year-old male with minor injuries, and a 37-year-old female with no physical injuries. Strathcona County RCMP engaged additional resources in order to locate the suspects, including the Strathcona County General Investigation Section (GIS), the Strathcona County Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the RCMP Police Dog Services. No suspects were located. The male with serious injuries was transported by ground ambulance to hospital and has since been discharged. The Strathcona County RCMP GIS took carriage of the investigation with the assistance of the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. On April 2, members of the Strathcona County GIS arrested and charged Jebediah Thomas Caswell (38), of no fixed address, Alberta with the following offences: Break and enter and commit aggravated assault, robbery, discharge firearm with intent, possession of a prohibited firearm, and forceable confinement. Leading up to Provincials, their team finished 1st in the regular season, won their Regional playoffs and then beat Spruce Grove in a best of 3 series to win the North Division Championship.
