Lamont Leader (Lamont, Alberta),

Former Conservative MLA promoting

talk by leader of Progressive Tory Party

MLA Jacquie Fenske has sent out social media information to let the community know Peter Guthrie, of the fledgling Progressive Tory Party of Alberta, formerly the Alberta Party, will be coming to speak in Fort Saskatchewan April 14.

“Space is limited so if you would like to meet this wonderful leader who has shown such an

ethical approach to politics he resigned from a ministerial position. He did do because of what he saw happening in the UCP government,” she said in her notice.

She added tickets to the $20 per person event are available through any Tory Party of Alberta board member or through Fenske directly.

When she served as MLA it was for the Progressive Conservative Party.

Recall petitioners still want better representation

Elections Alberta put the final numbers out on several recall petitions aimed at provincial politicians on March 25, including one for Fort Saskatchewan Vegreville MLA Jackie Armstrong Homeniuk.

The petition, as previously reported, had failed.

Needing 14,688 signatures to be a valid recall, the petition organizers were only able to get 1,167 by their March 17 deadline.

In a press release dated March 25, Armstrong Homeniuk noted the conclusion of the Recall Petition.

“I respect the democratic rights of Albertans to participate in the recall process and to express their views,” stated Armstrong-Homeniuk. “Alberta’s recall legislation exists to give citizens a

voice between elections, and participation in our democratic institutions is an important part of our society.

“Democracy is ultimately decided at the ballot box,” she added.

“While individuals are free to pursue recall efforts, the legislation requires clear and widespread support from constituents to overturn an election result. That level of support was not demonstrated, and the decision made by voters in Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville stands.

“Serving the people of this constituency is a responsibility I take very seriously. I remain committed to ensuring our voices are heard and our interests are represented.”

Meanwhile the Recall Petition organizers also put out a final press release stating, “While the

total did not meet the threshold required to trigger a formal recall vote, the initiative revealed significant concerns among residents regarding representation, communication, and engagement from their elected official.”

The group added they had faced significant barriers in carrying out their recall campaign including having law enforcement being called during lawful signature signing events; restricted access to private residences, particularly in seniors’ housing; harsh winter weather conditions; the timing of the campaign over the Christmas holiday period; and a widespread lack of public awareness about both the MLA’s role and the recall process itself.

They intend to maintain their website www.recalljackie.ca
