The Planning Process

Innovasea won a SeaGrant award to develop the project

• Three years: Sept 2025 – Sept 2028

• Includes URP SeaGrant officer Rene Esteves Amador as well as local social scientists Emmanual Maldonado & Nicolas Gomez

• Goal is to derisk the project

• spatial planning

• site characterization

• farm planning

• vendor evaluation

• stakeholder engagement

• Permitting is not included in the scope of the grant

NOAA’s NCCOS team is leading a spatial planning exercise

On site data collection includes

• Bathymetry survey

• ADCP: waves & currents

• aquaMeasure: temperature & oxygen

• Drop Camera: benthic video

• Sub-bottom profiler: sediment composition

• Photospectrometer: water chemistry

• Bacteriology through selective plates

• Red snapper is target species

• Red drum & almaco jack are highly viable alternatives

• Farm will start with 4 pens and grow to 24 pens

• Production will grow from ~400 tons to ~5,000 tons per year

• Fingerlings supplied by Cultimar Technologies (on-island)

• Feed supplied by ADM Animal Nutrition (on-island)
