Dear Friends of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation, As we reflect on our accomplishments each year, we are filled with gratitude for the many blessings we receive to support the children at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. It is through our generous supporters that we are able to provide exceptional care to support our patients and their families, keeping us at the forefront of excellence in pediatric health care. In 2015, Cardinal Glennon was once again celebrated in U.S. News and World Report with rankings in Gastroenterology and GI Surgery and Cardiology and Heart Surgery among all children’s hospitals in the United States. We have also just learned that in 2016-2017 we have been ranked in three specialties; Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, and Cancer. In 2015, our Board of Governors committed up to $2 million to help Cardinal Glennon and Saint Louis University School of Medicine build up our signature programs and enhance our top performing service lines, which allows us to continue to lead and innovate. To date, we’ve raised $2.7 million through Homers for Health and K’s for Kids donations, raising $1 million in 2015 alone, with pledges coming in from every state in the country! We are excited to be in the middle of our fifth year and grateful for the continued support and leadership of Matt and Leslee Holliday and the rest of our beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Bob Costas chaired the final Costas Benefit in 2015 after 26 years of raising more than $16 million for inpatient and outpatient cancer services at The Costas Center. As we celebrate the hospital’s 60th Anniversary this year with the Glennon Glow gala in November, we are grateful to have Bob hosting the inaugural event to continue to raise funds for pediatric cancer. Cardinal Glennon provides health care to all children regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Each and every day, you can see the Glennon Factor throughout the halls of the hospital, which is what sets us apart from the rest. It’s what we hope makes a difference to our donors, when choosing from the thousands of charities across our region. We are grateful to our corporate supporters, donors and volunteers who help us live out our mission each day: “Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.” We hope as you read this 2015 Impact Report, you can see how your dollars make a profound difference in the lives of patients and how we put your gifts to work. 2015 Drea’s Dream Dance Therapy Program
D
rea’s Dream is a pediatric dance therapy program provided by SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation, with funding support from the Andrea Rizzo Foundation and the Pazazz Performers of St. Louis. In 2015, the Drea’s Dream pediatric dance therapy program at
SSM Health Cardinal Glennon grew significantly; increasing from one hour per month to an hour a week. As a result, Dance Therapist, Katie Bohn, LPC, BC-DMT was able to provide approximately 440 hours of therapeutic services to pediatric cancer patients in 2015. Dance/movement therapy is the

Children may experience freedom from the isolation of hospitalization and have the opportunity to express themselves and connect in a safe (often metaphorical) way to their body, experiencing it as more than just an illness. For many patients the dance begins with their breath, which may help manage physical pain. To others, dance becomes a way to safely connect to and express a range of emotions such as joy, vulnerability, fear and empowerment, as well as to engage socially with others to promote resiliency in each child.

2015 donations supported the Imaging Center expansion by consolidating all imaging services, allowing for improved patient flow and efficiency. This space enlarges the Dorothy and Larry Dallas Heart Center and creates a new dedicated interventional radiology suite to provide minimally invasive image-guided diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Isolettes 2015 support also allowed for the purchase of isolettes for the transport team, which has 750 Neonatal
Intensive Care transports per year. These isolettes include monitors for environmental temperature control to 1/10 a degree and also enables monitoring for invasive and non-invasive blood pressure, pulse, respirations, skin temperature, end-tidal CO2 monitoring and oxyhemoglobin saturation. Overall, the isolettes enable caregivers to better evaluate the baby’s condition to facilitate their care during their transport.
Oncology The Foundation provided $3.5 million in 2015 for pediatric cancer. Funding will continue to support renovations for the 4th floor oncology project, set to begin in 2016.

Donations to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation supported the purchase of high performance digital laptop ultrasound equipment. This equipment helps provide a more precise and accurate display of the needle, anatomy and motion. The feature harnesses pattern recognition technology that recognizes and accurately reveals the structure of a needle within the anatomy without distortion of the needle and compromising the target.
Danis Pediatric Center Expansion Through proceeds from the 2015 Glennon Gallop, donations to the Foundation have supported the expansion of Danis Pediatric Center. Many socioeconomic factors have increased demand for services provided by Danis Pediatrics. In just a few short years,
the number of children served has grown by nearly 70%. Danis Pediatrics is home to nearly
20,000 patient visits annually, but was originally designed to accommodate 5,000 patient visits annually. To meet this increased demand, Danis Pediatrics has added programs, services, staff and physicians to build a high-quality service for all children in need. To expand care to even more children across the region, it is necessary to build a larger center. The Foundation will continue to raise money to support the expansion of Danis Pediatrics through events and programs.
Knights Of Columbus Developmental Center For more than 30 years, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon and the Missouri and Illinois Knights of Columbus have held a close partnership, together serving children with special needs. The Drive for Developmental Disabilities aka the “Tootsie Roll Drive” is one of the most recognizable activities that the Knights of Columbus do on Columbus Day weekend. A portion of the proceeds raised
in Missouri ($250,000) go to support the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center, which was started by the Knights of Columbus in 1981. On Saturday, September 12, 2015 the St. Alban Roe Knights of Columbus held their 15th Annual “Tee off for the Kids”. This event has raised nearly $350,000 over the last 15 years. We are grateful for the Knights of Columbus continued support, dedication and selfless philanthropy that allows us to improve the outcomes of children who are diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
Human Milk Warmers Donations to the Foundation funded support for the purchase of human milk warmers in the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Human milk warmers warm milk to body temperature, which makes the milk easier to digest, especially for the very preterm infants that are often cared for in the NICU. Warmer milk
conserves energy for the babies, which can then be spent on growing and getting better. The nurses love them, as they are very easy to use and can defrost frozen milk as well.

The Foundation provided support to the Footprints℠ program in 2015. Footprints℠ is committed to improving the quality of life for children living with complex medical illnesses and their families. The care coordination offered by Footprints℠ addresses not only
the physical needs of a child but the emotional, spiritual and psychosocial needs of the family as well. The team evaluates each child’s and family’s needs to identify difficult issues which may arise while caring for their children. The staff of the Footprints℠ program works with families prenatally (before birth), when children are inpatient at the hospital and as children are outpatients on an ongoing basis. Once a plan is outlined, resources are then coordinated to support the needs of both the child and family. The Footprints℠ program helps families and children live well along their journey, with focus on comfort, advocacy and support.
SSM Health Cardinal Glennon SportsCare SSM Health Cardinal Glennon SportsCare is the premier pediatric sports medicine provider in St. Louis and St. Charles. SportsCare provides exclusive, direct access to comprehensive medical care for young athletes. In 2015 the Foundation provided funding for SSM Health Cardinal Glennon SportsCare. By working with multiple specialists
and care partners, your child will get the top care that is best suited to treat their unique injury, improving recovery time and outcome. Many services are offered in multiple locations so your child can be treated close to home.
Kohl’s 4 Kids Missouri traffic deaths rose by 11.4% over 2014’s total. Fortunately,
SSM Health Cardinal Glennon’s Kohl’s 4 Kids program helps keep hundreds of kids safe. Each year, Kohl’s donates nearly $200,000 for car seats and bike helmets that program technicians give to families. Kohl’s 4 Kids technicians also educate the public on passenger and bike safety.
Fostering Healthy Kids

Children in foster care have been identified as the unhealthiest children in America. Therefore, in 2014, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon applied for and received
a grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health to provide comprehensive medical care for foster kids who are 13 and under and residing in St. Louis city and county. To date, 540 children have been enrolled.
Reach out and Read Research shows that reading to children reaps huge academic benefits. SSM Health Cardinal Glennon acts as coalition head for the national Reach Out and Read literacy program, providing age-appropriate books to local pediatricians who give them to children, 5 and under, at well-child visits. Pediatricians also coach parents on the importance of reading to their children. The Foundation provided funding support to Reach Out and Read in 2015.
YOP Tax Credits - The Right Start Program The Right Start Program provides pediatric behavioral-health care. Services include diagnoses, care planning, treatment and, when necessary, medications. Missouri’s Youth Opportunities Program tax credits help to support the program. These tax credits, received in
exchange for donations to the program, can be used to offset Missouri tax liability for up to six years.
