Many things can lead us to a passion for photography. Some show it since they were children; and others, later in life. It could be sparked by a camera that was given to us by our mother or friends, a course that crossed our path or that was eagerly pursued: the important thing is that talents were developed. And what leads one to founding a photo club? In Poty’s case, the pandemic played a fundamental role. Realizing that they could not participate in photographic expeditions, a group of friends decided to meet virtually to at least talk about their common passion: photography. Over time, the group began to take part in photographic competitions and public notices, aiming at training and improvement, but mainly at “disseminating photography produced in Poty’s land”, according to Poty Fotoclube itself.
The name of the photo club was chosen as a tribute to indigenous Felipe Camarão and all the people of Rio Grande do Norte, for their resistance against the colonizers. It reads on Poty’s website (https://potyfotoclube.com.br/): “Paraphrasing the indigenous song: Living is Photographing! We will face new challenges, experience many tours in search of beautiful and unusual images, we will participate in public notices, we will hold exhibitions and photographic fairs and we will also develop social work associated with our art.”

Muitas coisas podem levar à paixão pela fotografia. Alguns demonstram desde criança e outros mais tarde. Pode ser uma câmera dada pela mãe ou pelos amigos, um curso que cruzou o caminho ou que foi avidamente buscado, o importante é que talentos foram desenvolvidos.
E o que leva a fundar um fotoclube? No caso do Poty a pandemia teve papel fundamental. Percebendo que não poderiam participar de expedições fotográficas, um grupo de amigos decidiu se encontrar virtualmente para pelo menos conversar sobre a paixão em comum: a fotografia. Com o tempo o grupo passou a participar de concursos fotográficos e editais, objetivando a formação e aperfeiçoamento, mas principalmente a “divulgação da fotografia produzida nas terras de Poty”, de acordo com o próprio Poty Fotoclube.
O nome do fotoclube foi escolhido como homenagem ao índio Felipe Camarão e a todo o povo potiguar, pela resistência contra os colonizadores. Lê-se no site do Poty (https://potyfotoclube.com.br/): “Parafraseando o canto indígena: Viver é Fotografar! Vamos encarar novos desafios, vivenciarmos muitos passeios em busca de belas e inusitadas imagens, participaremos de editais, realizaremos exposições, feiras fotográficas e desenvolveremos também alguns trabalhos sociais associados à nossa arte.”
