Louis Armstrong Hot Five Centennial Celebration

The music Louis Armstrong created in the 1920s with his small group, the Hot Five, remains among the most influential, timeless, and joyous in the history of American music. Trumpeter Alphonso Horne will lead an all-star ensemble of today’s finest jazz musicians in celebration of the 100th anniversary of this groundbreaking group. The evening honors the recordings that transformed jazz from a collective style into a soloist’s art form—forever changing the course of popular music.

In the 1980s, the German composer and broadcaster Hans Otte released a series of solo piano pieces called Das Buch der Klänge Inspired by Buddhist thought and American Minimalism, Otte created a series of works that are lyrical, alternately contemplative and energetic, and possibly a little psychedelic. It was an overlooked masterpiece until pianist Conor Hanick, praised as one of his generation’s most inquisitive interpreters of music new and old, began playing it a few years ago, to great acclaim.

In this immersive outdoor premiere, Grammynominated composer Christopher Cerrone explores the fundamental human journey of learning to exist in the world. Inspired by Robert Frost’s poetry, The Only Way is Through traces the path from first sounds to full understanding. During the piece, Sandbox Percussion will physically assemble their instruments from raw materials—loose wooden bars, individual bells, scattered pipes—and the sounds of construction will become the music itself: the clatter of materials, the testing of pitches, the gradual building of something coherent from elemental parts. The Young People’s Chorus of New York City will move among them, bringing components to the musicians, their physical journey mirroring their vocal evolution from wordless sounds to fully formed language. Throughout, the audience is invited to move freely through the Sunken Garden, navigating their own relationship with the unfolding work, experiencing the joy and struggle of watching consciousness take shape.

We are thrilled to welcome back the beloved children’s series Dancing at Dusk, bringing lively, musicfilled evenings to Friends Field. Designed especially for young listeners and their families, this interactive series invites audiences to experience storytelling through sound, sing along, move to the music, and enjoy live performances in a relaxed outdoor setting. Rosen House Tours

A variety of docent-led and self-guided tours of the historic Rosen House are available year-round. Immerse yourself in the Mediterranean-style architecture, world-class art, and vibrant history of this landmark estate and its founders, Lucie and Walter Rosen. Beyond the exquisite Renaissance treasures and hand-painted silk wallpapers, you’ll discover the intimate stories of a home designed as a sanctuary for music and art.

2026 Rosen House Focus Tour: Inside Lucie’s Wardrobe

Caramoor’s founder, Lucie Rosen (1890–1968), captivates visitors through the many images displayed in the Rosen House and the stories shared during tours. However, little piques interest more than the revelation that her dressing room closets still contain the wardrobe of this passionate arts patron. Lucie’s distinctive aesthetic made her one of New York City’s most recognizable women during her lifetime. Now, for the first time in over 30 years, Caramoor will open her closet doors and share new research in this summer’s Focus Tour: Inside Lucie’s Wardrobe.

Drawing from a collection spanning the 1930s through the 1960s, the Focus Tour explores how Lucie cultivated her personal look. The Focus Tour (May 15 through September 6) features 18 garments and selected accessories from the Rosen House collection displayed on mannequins. Enriched by photographs and archival materials, this illuminating experience brings Lucie’s unique style to life for Caramoor visitors.

Gardens & Grounds Hours

Our grounds are open for picnicking, walking, and exploring daily from 10:00am – 4:00pm, except when ticketed events are taking place. Throughout the grounds, you will find our seasonal Sonic Innovations sound art installations. Guided tours of the Rosen House are regularly available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as by appointment.

Planning Your Visit

Food & Drink

You are welcome to bring your own picnic, purchase refreshments at our Concessions Tent, or conveniently preorder a boxed meal. We offer picnic tables and plenty of space on our grassy lawns for you to spread out and enjoy! Onsite, you will find a daily selection of seasonal salads, sandwiches, or something hot off the grill. Vegetarian, vegan, and glutenfree options are always available! Snacks and sundries are on hand to supplement your picnic, and a variety of ice cream, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages are stocked to keep you cool. Open two hours before every afternoon and evening concert through intermission. Members receive 10% off onsite concessions!

FREE SHUTTLE

Take the FREE shuttle from Metro-North’s Katonah station to and from Caramoor! The shuttle runs before and after every afternoon and evening concert.

GARDEN LISTENING

For those who prefer a more casual concert environment, Caramoor offers Garden Listening as an option for selected Venetian Theater concerts. Listen to the concert broadcast onto Friends Field (audio only) while enjoying your picnic and relaxing with friends and family.

RAIN OR SHINE POLICY

All events at Caramoor take place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, our outdoor events will move under the Venetian Theater tent or into the Music Room.
