WE HAVE IRÉ ABOUT PREGONES/PUERTO RICAN TRAVELING THEATER Pregones/PRTT Is a multigenerational performing ensemble and multidiscipline arts presenter operating with venues in the South Bronx and Manhattan’s theater district in New York City. Its mission is to champion a Puerto Rican/Latinx cultural legacy of universal value through creation and performance of original plays and musicals, exchange and partnership with other artists of merit, and engagement of diverse audiences. Pregones Theater was founded in 1979 when a group of artists led by Rosalba Rolón set out to create and tour new works in the style of Caribbean and Latin American colectivos or performing ensembles. Spurred by stage and lm icon Miriam Colón, Puerto Rican Traveling Theater was founded in 1967 as one of the rst bilingual theater companies in all the U.S..Following merger in 2014, Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater plays a decisive role in empowering diverse artists and audiences to claim their place at the front of the American theater. The company has touted its productions to 500+ cities in the U.S., 38 states, and 18 countries. PAUL S. FLORES is a San Francisco artist of Mexican and Cuban-American descent who has built a national reputation for interview-based theater and bilingual spoken word. He integrates indigenous and Latino healing practices to tell the stories of real people impacted by immigration and systemic inequalities. Flores appeared on Season 3 and 4 of HBO’s Def Poetry. He is the author of the play “PLACAS: The Most Dangerous Tattoo,” and the novel Along the Border Lies. His commissions have come from Creative Capital, La Peña Cultural Center, MACLA, MAP Fund, Pregones Theater, National Performance Network, SF Arts Commission, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and many more. His work has played across the United States and internationally in Cuba, Mexico, and El Salvador. Paul is a Doris Duke Artist Award winner, and he teaches Theater at the University of San Francisco. He is a teaching artist with the Prison Arts Project in San Quentin State Prison. He also works a cultural event producer at Acción Latina in San Francisco’s Mission District. His debut book of poetry We Still Be was published in August 2023 by El Martillo Press. He lives in San Francisco with his children. ROSALBA ROLÓN is a revered visionary and a passionate creator of musical theater that celebrates Latinx voices and cultures. Co-founder of Pregones and now Artistic Director of Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, she spearheads the sustained development of the company’s acting and music ensemble, creative methodology, and original repertory. An accomplished actor, director, and dramaturg, Rosalba specializes in the adaptation of nondramatic texts for stage performance and draws from multiple traditions of Caribbean, Latin American, and U.S.-Latino theater to build Pregones/PRTT’s distinct body of work. Salient distinctions include the Doris Duke Artist Award, New York Latin ACE Gold Award in Theater, Teer Pioneer Award from National Black Theatre, USA Fontanals Fellowship in Theater and Performance, and Creative Capital Award, among others. She serves on the boards of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) and United States Artists (USA), is a faculty member of both the NALAC Leadership Institute and the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Emerging Leadership Institute, and is member of the Nominating Committee for the Tony Awards, presented annually by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League.

YOSVANY TERRY traces his family’s roots to the kingdom of Dahomey, or present-day Benin. After being taken taken to work in Haiti and Jamaica, his relatives eventually were able to immigrate to Cuba in roughly 1910. As a child, Yosvany embraced the African musical and religious traditions that were a fundamental and integral part of his home life. Born into a musical family in Camaguey, Cuba, he received his rst musical instruction on the violin from his father, violinist and chekere player Don Pancho Terry who led Maravilla de Florida, the 1950sformed collective widely acknowledged as one of Cuba’s most respected Charanga groups. As a result of his father’s legacy, Yosvany’s childhood house was home to music and an extended family of Cuban musicians.

We have been walking together for decades, the unnamed collectives, the undercommons and the underground, building railroads, the semilleros and sentinels prepared for action, maroon trajectories, lines of ight looking for a weapon. YOUR HEALING IS KILLING ME VIRGINIA GRISE is a recipient of the Yale Drama Award, Whiting Writers' Award, the Princess Grace Award in Theatre Directing, and the Playwrights' Center's Jerome Fellowship. Her published work includes Your Healing is Killing Me (Plays Inverse Press), blu (Yale University Press), The Panza Monologues cowritten with Irma Mayorga (University of Texas Press) and an edited volume of Zapatista communiqués titled Conversations with Don Durito (Autonomedia Press). In addition to plays, she has created a body of work that is interdisciplinary and includes multimedia performance, dance theater, performance installations, guerilla theater, site speci c interventions, and community gatherings. Virginia has taught writing for performance at the university level, as a public school teacher, in community centers, women's prisons, and in the juvenile correction system. She holds an MA in Writing for Performance from the California Institute of the Arts and is the Mellon Foundation Playwright in Residence at Cara Mía Theatre in Dallas, Texas and a Matakyev Research Fellow at the Center for Imagination in the Borderlands at Arizona State University. virginiagrise.com/atododar KENDRA WARE is a performance-based multidisciplinary artist whose work reveals an interest in history, personal narrative, and experimental approaches to art-making. Using live performance, video, and installation, she creates hybrid staged environments that explore the intersections of race, gender, class, cultural politics, and identity while challenging social norms and notions of otherness. She will be directing Riding the Currents Wilding Winds a concert commissioned by Pregones, Cornell, and Projecting all Voices. She has staged Soñar es Luchar, most recently at the Latino Cultural Center for Cara Mia Theatre in Dallas, TX, and Pregones Theater in NY. She directed the premiere of Virginia Grise's Their Dogs Came With Them in Perryville Prison, Arizona, and later in coproduction with Borderlands Theater in Tuscon, AZ. Her work has been supported at Automata LA, Cara Mia Theatre, Dallas, TX, Borderlands Theater, Tucson, AZ, Perryville Women's Prison, Book Fairs - San Antonio, AWP REDCAT in Los Angeles, Son of Semele, Upright Citizens Brigade, LA, The Santa Barbara Contemporary Museum of Art, East West Players, The Last Bookstore, La Mama Theater, Pregones, Sesame Street Tour, the Latino Cultural Center, Dallas, TX, The Flea Theater, Pan Asian Rep in New York City and various site-speci c locations. She has been a guest artist with La Mama Theater in Umbria, Italy, Automata LA, Long Beach Dance Foundation, Indy Convergence Indianapolis, York University, Northwestern University, Sarah Lawrence College, CALARTS, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona. She has earned her MA in theater from the California Institute of the Arts.

FAYLITA HICKS (she/they) is a queer Afro-Latinx writer, spoken word artist, and cultural strategist. Newly based in Chicago, IL, Hicks is the author of the critically-acclaimed debut poetry collection HoodWitch (Acre Books, 2019), a nalist for the 2020 Lambda Literary Award for Bisexual Poetry, the 2019 Julie Suk Award, and the 2019 Balcones Poetry Prize. Currently, they are working on a second poetry collection, A Map of My Want (Haymarket Books, 2024), and a debut memoir about their carceral experience, A Body of Wild Light (Haymarket Books, 2025). Both projects are partly supported by grants, fellowships, residencies, and awards from the Art for Justice, Black Mountain Institute, Tin House, and The Right of Return USA.A proli c creative and previously incarcerated artist, Hicks’ is known for their dynamic storytelling methods and compelling narrative arcs. Using poetry, prose, music, video, and live performances — they explore the evolution of personal and national identity, the cyclical nature of grief, the spiritual applications of quantum physics, decolonized eroticism/sensuality, and manifesting personal liberation. Hicks is an Artivist who integrates transformative justice theory into their creative practice, using much of their work to advocate for the lives of marginalized people who make up our global majority.

ABOUT THE LATINO COMEDY PROJECT Hailed by The San Francisco Chronicle as “hilarious” and “murderously funny”, The Latino Comedy Project (LCP) is an Emmy-nominated sketch troupe from Austin, Texas known for its multimedia political and pop culture satire. This year, the LCP celebrates its 25th anniversary. The LCP cast also developed, wrote and starred in an MTV3 comedy branding campaign for which the group received an Emmy nomination. The LCP’s political sci-if satire ¡Estar Guars! was enthusiastically received by Cara Mia audiences at last year’s “Latinidades” festival and praised by one critic as “one of the funniest live shows I’ve ever seen.” In 2024, ¡Estar Guars! will return to celebrate its third year as a popular and highly anticipated annual Austin tradition. They’re bad. They’re brown. They're The Latino Comedy Project. ADRIAN VILLEGAS is a founding member and Artistic Director of Austin, Texas’ Emmy-nominated sketch troupe The Latino Comedy Project (LCP) and the star and playwright of the solo comedies Six Mexicans Named Gonzalez and Barrio Daze. Villegas is also the writer and director of the LCP’s acclaimed ¡Estar Guars! and the head writer and creative leader of original LCP sketch productions like Gentrif*cked. He currently writing an all-new solo show examining the phenomenon of radicalized right-wing Latino men, as well as a much-requested sequel to ¡Estar Guars! As both a solo performer and Artistic Director for the Latino Comedy Project, Adrian Villegas strives to create work that entertains, bridges cultures, and taps into the hunger of underserved and under-represented Latino audiences. He is honored and grateful to be sharing his work once again with the legendary Cara Mia Theatre company and its wonderful audience.
