The Louisiana Supreme Court agreed to recall an arrest warrant for Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill in an emergency order late Friday night, the high court’s second major intervention to pause Murrill’s prosecution after her indictment by an Orleans Parish grand jury. The grand jury indicted Murrill on Thursday, charging her with 16 felony counts of malfeasance in office and intimidation. Orleans Criminal District Court Judge Leon Roche issued an alias capias arrest warrant and set Murrill’s bail at $400,000. The indictment, which happened behind closed doors, set off a flurry of filings to Louisiana’s high court. The attorney general quickly asked late Thursday night for the state Supreme Court to intervene, and the court responded with an order Friday morn- Murrill ing that stayed the indictment. The court issued the stay order on a 5-2 vote, critiquing the lack of transparency, alleged conflicts of interest and other deficiencies in the case. The Supreme Court ruled that Murill was “likely to succeed on the merits of a motion to quash this indictment on either a legal basis or due to apparent procedural irregularities.” They remanded the case back to district court for Murrill to file motions in her defense. But by late Friday, Murrill returned to the high court and alleged the special prosecutor appointed to her case, former New Orleans Judge Laurie White, had refused to recall the
