St. Tammany voters head to polls June 27 with much at stake BY ANDREW CANULETTE Staff writer

St. Tammany Parish voters will have their say June 27 on up to 11 different ballot items, from deciding major party candidates for one of the state’s U.S. Senate seats to local referendums on millage renewals for the sheriff’s office, the parish mosquito abatement district and more. Each of the 171 precincts in St. Tammany will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on June 27. Early voting started June 12 and concluded June 20. Chronic voters will pay close attention to renewals on tap for both the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Abatement District No. 1. The recent arrest of St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith, for allegedly throttling a vocal critic of his during a May 29 incident in a Madisonville-area steakhouse,

Gov. Jeff Landry signed the bill on June 1. The bill calls for every hospital in Louisiana that provides maternity or neonatal services to have the resources necessary to support families with comprehensive bereavement care during a stressful and tragic time.
