Zachary High athletes shine in Star of Stars
Zachary High athletes were on display at the 40th Advocate Star of Stars Awards on May 18 at the L’Auberge Event Center. Star of Stars honors high school athletes from across the Baton Rouge metro area selected as the best in their sports based on all-disWarren trict, all-metro, and all-state Brady honors, as well as ZACHARY competitions at SPORTS the regional and state levels. The selection process is supplemented based on the recommendations of area coaches.

RIGHT: Red, white and blue flowers are placed on a gravestone. Ava Raymond Ava Raymond is the Star of Stars Female Athlete of the Year. She was the girls basketball Star of Stars. Raymond continues to rack up the postseason honors and goes down as one of the most decorated female athletes in school history. The Zachary High boys basketball team was named the Boys Athletics Star of Stars Team of the Year. The honor reflects the team’s accomplishments on the court, the culture, toughness and consistency the Broncos displayed throughout the season repeating as state champions.
College offers Sophomore girls basketball standout Asia Bell picked up an offer from Mississippi State University, and freshman Marcia Robinson picked up an offer from Stephen F. Austin over the week. Is it too early to refer to them as junior Asia Bell and sophomore Marcia Robinson? School ended May 21.

Play mahjong on June 20 to support dogs Leila Pitchford AROUND ZACHARY
Pungs for Paws, a fundraiser for Must Luv Dogs Rescue, is at 2 p.m. June 20 at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge. The mahjong fundraiser is presented by Magnolia Mahj. Individual entry is $30 and the event will set up. A table for four is $100, which includes a table contest the entrants set up. School uniforms sought
The Baker Library and Baton Rouge Healthcare Center are sponsoring a Navigating Senior Care session from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28. The session is free and seeks to help seniors and their families understand the differences between support and medical services and what programs/insurances may pay for these services.
ZEPTO is collecting new and gently used Zachary Community School uniforms through June 5. Donation bins are available during business hours at all five elementary schools, as well as Northwestern Middle School, Zachary High and the Zachary Community School Board office. The distribution will be 8-10 a.m., June 20, at Copper Mill Elementary School
