For over a decade, visitors of Westwego’s Bayou Segnette have been able to see live alligators on an airboat and eat lunch at a harbor-front restaurant afterward — or buy live Louisiana shellfish to cook for themselves instead. But now, Westwego leaders are revamping that cluster of businesses into a designated tourist hub known as “Gator Town,” with hopes of attracting new visitors to the area as a new youth sports complex in nearby Avondale is slated to bring thousands of out-of-towners to the area each weekend. Gator Town encompasses the area south of the Westbank Expressway between Louisiana and Laroussini streets and extends to the Lapalco Boulevard bridge. It includes the Westwego Shrimp Lot, Segnette Landing restaurant and Ultimate Swamp Adventures. Just outside of Gator Town is Bayou Segnette State Park, with its own boat launch and floating cabins
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Donald Trump said that one of the two West Virginia National Guard members shot by an Afghan national near the White House had died, calling the shooter who had worked with the CIA in his native country a “savage monster.” As part of his Thanksgiving call to U.S. troops, Trump said that he had just learned that Spc. Sarah Beckstrom Beckstrom, 20, had died, while Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, was “fighting for his life.” “She’s just passed away,” Trump said. “She’s no longer with us. She’s looking down at us right now. Her parents are with her.” The president called Beckstrom an “incredible person, outstandWolfe ing in every single way.” Trump used the announcement to say the shooting was a “terrorist attack” as he criticized the Biden administration for enabling Afghans who worked with U.S. forces during the Afghanistan War to enter the U.S. The president has deployed National Guard members in part to assist in his

The Archdiocese of New Orleans has reached a settlement with a group of bondholders in its long-running bankruptcy case, removing the last remaining hurdle toward a resolution, which could come now as soon as next week. The bondholders, who were owed nearly $30 million on a $40 million loan they made to the archdiocese in 2017 to help refinance parish debt, were opposed to the settlement plan currently up for confirmation before U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Meredith Grabill. The plan, which would create a $230 million trust to be paid to hundreds of survivors of clergy sex abuse and establish strict new abuse protection and reporting policies, has the overwhelming support of abuse survivors.
