U.S. STRIKES IRANIAN SITES 3 nuclear facilities hit as U.S. joins Israeli air campaign Make peace or face future attacks, Trump threatens
BY PATRICK SLOAN-TURNER Staff writer
It has been more than a year since the highest court in Louisiana finally answered the question: Yes, St. George should become a city. Yet one question still remains unanswered, a question some leaders view as pivotal, while others dismiss as minor — when did St. George officially incorporate? The debate is not new. It has disrupted negotiations for nearly a year, and is at the center of threatened lawsuits with $200 million or more at stake. But now, as the city-parish government tries to mend a major deficit, some officials say it’s time to end the debate and let a judge decide. “Avoiding all of those legal procedures and vessels is not the answer, because then we just continue to have people bickering back and forth, this tug Yates of war among folks that are in power,” East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council member Jennifer Racca said. “Let the judges decide. Let them look at Murrell the facts of the case and hope they make the right decision.” St. George leaders like Mayor Dustin Yates and City Council member Andrew Murrell have long held that St. George incorporated in 2019, when voters approved the new city. But both former East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and current Mayor-President Sid Edwards have said April 2024, when the Supreme Court ruled, should be the accepted date.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military struck three sites in Iran early Sunday, directly joining Israel’s war aimed at decapitating the country’s nuclear program in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe amid Tehran’s threat of reprisals that could spark a wider regional conflict. Addressing the nation from the White House, President Donald Trump said Iran’s key nuclear sites were “completely and fully obliterated.” He also warned Tehran against carrying out retaliatory attacks against the U.S., saying Iran has a
choice between “peace or tragedy.” Iran’s nuclear agency confirmed that attacks hit its Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz atomic sites, but insisted that its work will not be stopped. The decision to directly involve the U.S. in the war comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that aimed to systematically eradicate the country’s air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, while damaging its nuclear enrichment facilities. But U.S. and Israeli officials have said that American stealth bombers and the 30,000-pound bunker-buster bomb they alone can carry offered the best chance of destroying heavily fortified sites connected to the Iranian nuclear program buried
