It seems fitting that the holiday tree inside the New Orleans Botanical Garden’s Conservatory of the Two Sisters would be built from blooming flowers. The City Park Conservancy built a 20-foot-tall “tree” from 500 poinsettia plants in preparation for

Chasing Christmas: Amazing Acro-Cats return to strut their stuff in ‘Mew Orleans’ Traci Howerton ANIMAL RESCUE

The Amazing Acro-Cats, a troupe of former stray cats traveling the country to show off their talents for a good cause, return to New Orleans with their annual “Meowy Catmas Special” Dec. 5-22 at the Allways Lounge & Cabaret, 2240 St Claude Ave., New Orleans. This unusual show is purr-fect for the entire family, but leave the pets at home. It’s a must-see show during the holiday season, especially for those

who love cats. The show features rescue cats jumping through wreaths, rolling ornaments, pushing sleighs and performing an array of seasonal tricks. These felines are ready to delight and amaze audiences of all ages. There will also be a special appearance by The Rock-Cats, the only cat band in the world, playing seasonal carol selections such as “A Cat in a Man-

ger,” “Catnip Roasting on an Open Fire” and “God Rest Ye Merry Kittens.” Aside from giving audiences a captivating and impressive show, the Amazing Acro-Cats demonstrate the mental and physical health benefits of the use of positive-reinforcement clicker training. Each performance aims to educate the public on the benefits of the training. Many cats are abandoned or surrendered to shelters because of behav-

ioral issues stemming from boredom. Clicker training can not only keep cats happy and engaged but can also deepen the bond between cats and their families. During their tours, The Amazing Acro-Cats team up with local rescues and shelters. This year, they are partnering with Big Easy Animal Rescue.
