Trick-or-treat hours set Halloween trick-or-treating hours are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Ascension Parish officials announced.
Boo & the Badge Thursday Trick-or-Treat with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and local businesses at Boo & the Badge from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wag Center, 1201 Maginnis St., Donaldsonville. Donaldsonville event raises money for domestic violence center BY WENDY LOUP Contributing writer
The city of Donaldsonville hosted Holly Jolly Hope Fest on Oct. 19 to bring awareness to domestic violence with proceeds benefiting the Iris Domestic Violence Center. The event, held at the Lemann Memorial Center, offered 20 shopping vendors, raffles, silent auctions, food and information about services the Iris Domestic Violence Center offers. “This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and today’s proceeds, as well as donations collected, will go to the Iris Domestic Violence Center,” said Michele Ashby, Ascension Parish’s director of community and economic devel-
It is one of those secrets people do not really understand sometimes.” The main goal of the event was to offer information about what services the Iris Domestic Violence Center offers to help those in abusive situations, said Patti Joy Freeman, executive director of the Iris Domestic Violence Center. The center serves eight parishes in Louisiana with over a dozen shelters. “We serve men and women equally and offer a 24-hour crisis line and assess families’ needs as well as their safety,” Freeman said. St Amant, Ascension Catholic post big victories in Week 8 St. Amant High, coming off an emotional Week 7 victory over East Ascension, didn’t have a let down in Week 8. The Gators outlasted Live Oak 42-26 and moved to 5-2 overall. Dutchtown High dropped its first game of the season, losing to Walker, 44-24. Those sequence of games has a logjam at the top of District 5-5A, with St. Amant, Walker and Dutchtown at 3-1. Ascension Catholic High rolled past North Iberville, 5614, to notch their 26th straight district victory. The Bulldogs are 6-1 overall and 4-0 in District 8-1A and will host White Castle on Friday in Donaldsonville. The winner will be crowned district champion. Patricia Wilson and Casen Vicknair reigned as St. Amant High’s Homecoming queen and king. Wilson was crowned Friday during football halftime festivities. Homecoming week events included themed days, parade and pep rally. Wilson is a member of the St. Amant High color guard, the Black History Club and FFA. She was escorted by her aunt, Brenda Thomas, and brother, Nolan Wilson.
