MONDAY
I LOVE Mondays. Both of my Samantha Cusick London salons are closed, and Stā Studios is reserved for brand events, which gives me the rare gift of working from home. I use the morning to catch up on admin, emails, planning and anything that slipped through the cracks the week before.
In the afternoon I’m in content mode which involves turning my living room into a mini studio and convincing myself that natural light is my best friend!
TUESDAY
On Tuesdays, you’ll always find me at Stā Studios. It’s my co-working space in East London and the place where my leadership team and I do our internal meetings. We work hard, but we laugh a lot, which is exactly how I like it.
This particular Tuesday also included a visit next door to check on building progress for the new standalone Samantha Cusick London salon. Watching a new space come to life never gets old and knowing it will open in just a couple of months makes it even more exciting.
SAM’S ADVICE
If you have an idea or a vision, then do it. Don’t wait until everything is perfect, just get on with it. Tell people about it, move it forward. You can amend and develop as you go, but the most important thing is to do it.
THURSDAY
Thursday I’m back to Stā Studios, where we have our podcast studio. I built it so creatives in our industry could have an accessible space to tell their stories, and it’s also where I record my own podcast, The Silly Little Girls Club. Every episode leaves me inspired, emotional and more proud of the women I get to share a room with.
FRIDAY
Friday began at The Standard in London, hosting a breakfast. I absolutely love moments like this because they let me connect with other creatives and have real conversations about the industry. It also helps that The Standard does an incredible breakfast, which makes early starts much easier to handle. By the time the coffee kicked in, the room was full of energy and ideas!
SATURDAY
I try to protect my weekends as much as possible, but sometimes things pop up that need attention. Today, it was a new headshot shoot with my management team. I am totally comfortable talking about hair or being in front of the camera for work, but headshots are always slightly terrifying – I was genuinely shocked by how good they looked!
WEDNESDAY
This Wednesday sees me back in Notting Hill at my very first salon for a neighbourhood promotion. It involved a lot of balloons, a lot of chatting to locals and that brilliant feeling of being part of a community you helped to build. It reminded me of how everything started and why I still love showing up for moments like this.
SUNDAY
Sundays are sacred when I am in London. My tradition is dragging Greg, my fiancé, to Columbia Road Flower Market. I buy far too many flowers, pretend I am a florist, and make him carry everything back to Stā Studios, where I arrange bouquets for the space. It’s one of the best ways to end the week.

2026 hair and beauty trends
2026 is the year of the individual when it comes to expression, style and experimentation. Even Pantone’s often-criticised colour of the year Cloud Dancer, is a reason to think of this year as a clean slate. Read on for our ultimate trend guide across cut, style and colour plus lashes and nails.
THE BIXIE – THE CUT OF THE YEAR?
The Bixie is fast emerging as the ‘cool girl’ haircut, with artist Rama Duwaji – wife of the new New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani – being the breakout style leader.
What people are loving about Rama’s Bixie is its ability to transform and be tailored specifically to your client’s face shape. It’s not a look you can copy as such, but more so about creating a bespoke version for each client who asks for it –meaning no more cookie cutter copies!
Amie Sillis, Olivia Garden Educator explains:
“The Bixie is a hybrid between a bob and a pixie and it’s a brilliant transitional cut for clients growing out shorter hair without losing shape or personality. It still feels directional, but much more wearable and organic.
“When I’m styling this look in the salon, I focus on creating movement without over-defining it. Using my Olivia Garden Speed Brush vertically, almost as I would a wand and dragging down through the hair gives a softer, more diffused bend. It keeps the finish fluffy and fluid rather than overly uniform, which is key for this relaxed aesthetic.”
SOFTER STYLING
The focus for hair in 2026 is hair length, which can only happen by focusing on hair health. Hair inspiration is going back to big, beautiful hair, but with a softer silhouette. A great example was the cover of British Vogue’s March issue, which saw model of the moment Bhavitha Mandava wearing bouncy curls created by the iconic hairstylist Sam McKnight.
Sam told us: “This was a celebration of unapologetic big hair. Big hair is back! But in a soft, natural texture, not too perfect and not stiff at all.”
Amie Sillis, Olivia Garden Educator agrees!
“There’s so much inspiration in hair right now, but what’s really leading for me is a move towards natural, soft texture and that works at any length. We’re seeing a shift away from overly structured, ultra-polished styles and into something more romantic and effortless.
The influence feels very cinematic, think ripple waves, soft movement and an undone finish, reminiscent of the Wuthering Heights aesthetic we’ve seen recently on press tours. Even high-glam looks are softening. In the salon. I’m moving away from that very structured ‘Espresso era’ finish and embracing a looser, more relaxed texture that enhances the hair’s natural flow,” says Amie.
HAIR EXTENSIONS GET MORE PERSONAL
Marlene Lamont, extensions specialist and owner of Urban Hair & Beauty says 2026 is all about personalisation.
“This year hair extensions will be less about big transformations and more about personalisation. Clients want hair that feels like their own and fits easily into their everyday life. That means focusing on natural density, balance and shape, rather than adding obvious length or volume.
“Extensions are increasingly being used to support the haircut, enhance a fringe, or add fullness where it’s genuinely needed. When they’re placed well and matched properly, the result feels seamless and consistent day to day. Quality hair, good craftsmanship and a thorough consultation will continue to be essential, as clients expect extensions to look natural, feel comfortable and work with their lifestyle,” explains Marlene.

A CLEAN SLATE FOR COLOUR
As with hair length, the focus for coloured hair is going to put hair health first, without sacrificing the results your clients crave. For Kirby Blythe, Indola Digital Ambassador, Pantone’s Colour of the Year Cloud Dancer will be a key inspiration for colourists.
“Pantone Cloud Dancer blondes are set to be a major focus and these shades are all about calm confidence; soft, neutral tones, clean colour work, and understated, effortless styling. It’s a look that feels modern yet timeless, giving clients that polished, luminous finish without feeling overdone.
“From a colour perspective, the key is working with subtle tonal shifts and paying attention to the hair’s condition. That’s where Indola’s Blonde Expert range really comes into its own. Its advanced bonding technology protects and strengthens hair during lightening, supporting the hair’s inner structure while enhancing shine and luminosity. This means you can achieve that flawless, neutral blonde without compromising hair health,” advises Kirby.

BLONDES IN 2026
From biscotti to Chantilly to creamy honey shades, Rush’s Creative Colour expert Seung Ki Baek says blondes are going to have the most fun this year.
But when it comes to a favourite shade, Seung says it has to be what he calls ‘syrup blonde’.
He explains: “Syrup blonde is a maple hue that’s been seen on the likes of Matilda Djerf, RosieHuntington Whiteley and Jennifer Lawrence. Syrup blonde is an intensely glossy, rich blonde that
CAPÉRA DRYLITE PRO HAIRDRYER EXCLUSIVE TO CAPITAL
seamlessly blends darker shades into a blonde base. This syrupy hue is a mix of warmer beige tones and bright golden ribbons, with a few lowlights blended throughout to achieve that natural sun-kissed effect.
“Syrup blonde is a great option for those gradually wanting to darken their colour thanks to its low-maintenance up-keep. Natural roots blend seamlessly with the darker hues, while not straying too far from bright blonde shades, making it a great transitional shade.”
A BEAUTY MOMENT
Facialists, waxing pros and masseuses, this is your time to really assess if your service menu is giving people what they want and making you the optimum amount of money. This is the year that many more people will be looking for ways to commit to regular self-care, but with a professional touch.
People want to go shopping again, and they want to try new services again so think about your service menu as an opportunity for a time-crunched client to tick off several boxes. How can you make someone not only look better but also feel better? Get this right and you will have people booking in months ahead for regular massages and facials.
THE LASH LIFE
Gone are the days of lash clients only wanting one specific look; now everyone can be a lash client, because there are so many options!
Innovations in lash design have come a seriously long way, but now, when it comes to the styles your clients will be after this year, they’re actually looking to the past.
Raelene Mara says: “2026 will see a throwback to many trends from the 2010s; think natural skin, shimmering colour pops on the eyes, a combination of smudged and defined eyeliner and understated glam grunge/goth and lashes as the perfect complement!
“For false lashes, the key word and trend is customisation and lash techs will create this by moving away from traditional strip lashes and embracing individual cluster lashes to create entirely bespoke looks for their clients.
“Individual cluster lashes provide versatility and creative freedom and styles will range from super-natural to more voluminous fluffy lashes. We’ll also see a lot layering/stacking for impact and a more glam, heavier look.”
WE LOVE: Salon System’s Individual Intense Lashes are a brilliant way to add volume and a bespoke finish.

NAILS AS AN ACCESSORY
For 2026 nails are bigger and bolder than ever before!
Amber Herbert, a content creator for The GelBottle says she can’t get enough of magnetic polishes.
“I love using magnetic polishes to create a seriously glassy effect. My clients love this look with the magnetic glitters drawn towards the tip or one side of the nail. Velvety shades like Cherish, Flare and That Girl are perfect for achieving this, says Amber.” Follow Amber @amberjhnails

2026 NAIL TREND
Metta Francis shares her top 6 nail trends for 2026
1 The Zara Larsson X Sophia Sinot Effect. Zara’s incredible makeup from her Midnight Sun Tour has made its way into mainstream beauty and given us as nail techs an excuse to play with and create the most colourful and embellished nails, even in the cooler months. The media went wild for Zara’s Grammys look that featured this stunning bright yellow beaded nail design by @byjuanalvear. We can expect to see a lot more of this for 2026 from full on maximalist to colourful accents.
MAKEUP IS FUN AGAIN
Speaking of the Sophia Sinot and Zara Larsson effect, if you’re a makeup artist then you’re set to have an amazing time this year, because the clean girl has left the building!
Instead be inspired by Sophia. This talented makeup artist has gone viral several times due to her stunning work for Zara. Sophia told us she’s had so many people reaching out to tell her they’re finally digging out their eyeshadow palettes again; this is a sure sign that your bridal and special occasion clients are going to be open to being more experimental when it comes to colour and shimmer.

2 For a more wearable look inspired by Pantone’s colour of the year, Cloud Dancer nails will be the go-to clean nail look for the year. A soft, semi sheer cloud-like white for those who want an understated look and a more opaque shade for those who want neutral nails that make more of an impression.
3 Textured cat eye and velvet nails aren’t going anywhere but this year we can expect more texture and depth like 3D gel waves, embellishment and lines on top of a cat eye base.
4 The 2000s are back and Y2K fashion and beauty is calling! With frosted lipsticks making a comeback, expect that same frosted, shimmery pink and white shade to make its way back to nails. As a standalone shade or as a frosted tip, it’s nostalgia in a bottle.
5 As featured in the 2026 Pinterest Palette, I predict Wasabi Nails will be a big hit for colour lovers. Great on its own or to incorporate into nail art, this shade is fun, colourful and a guaranteed dopamine hit for your clients when they look down at their nails! @nailsbymets
CHAPPELL ROAN
MET GALA HAIR AND BEAUTY PREDICTIONS
The Met Gala is the most exciting red carpet of the year because it’s not just any red carpet. Every year the Met Gala has a specific dress code for guests to adhere to and be inspired by. This year the theme is Fashion is Art so let’s get into how that theme might inspire some stunning hair and beauty moments from your faves.
WHAT DOES THE THEME MEAN?
Fashion is Art is heavily inspired by the body and how clothes shape it. This means we can expect to be seeing a lot of body on the red carpet come the first Monday in May, so expect sheer moments and lots of lace.
WUTHERING HEIGHTS
While Wuthering Heights might have upset a lot of fans of the book, there’s no denying that lead stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have inspired the world with their press tour looks. While Elordi’s adopted a rogue-ish gold tooth and mullet, Robbie’s been wearing some gorgeous ethereal moments from the likes of Dilara Findikoglu, teamed with the ultimate romantic waves. You can definitely expect to see this look on the Met Gala red carpet so think salt sprayed curls and statement braids, teamed with flushed blush moments.
TEYANA TAYLOR
Chappell Roan is the woman you go to when you want to appear out of this world, and totally unpredictable. Just take a look at her last major red carpet appearance; she wore prosthetic nipples to the Grammys and shout out to the makeup artist who blended them seamlessly into Chappell’s skin tone, Sasha Glasser! Considering the theme of this year’s Met Gala is all about the body, we’re not sure how Chappell can top this one! One thing we can predict though, is that her hair and makeup will be a slay
OLANDRIA
Teyana Taylor has become a force to be reckoned with since appearing in hit film One Battle After Another and her red carpet glam simply cannot be beat. Teyana’s also been inspiring women to go for a choppy pixie cut; hers was created by @choppedbyedith but we wouldn’t be surprised if she goes in the opposite direction for the Met Gala and leans into some long, gorgeous extensions. Also, we know she’s going to deliver when it comes to a stunning eye makeup moment, and of course we’re expecting her to show off that Oscar-nominated body in something slinky and sheer.
For more celeb hair and beauty inspo be sure to check out capitalhairandbeauty.co/uk/inspiration!
Olandria has become a household name thanks to her time on Love Island and since Paris haute couture week she’s cemented her status as a fashion girly. We fully expect her to arrive on the red carpet wearing a shimmering and short piece of couture and of course her glam will be impeccable. Olandria has an incredible hair stylist @hauseofshee who’s been creating one of a kind wigs for the reality star, from a bixie to long 70s layers; she does it all! Also, we can’t forget her makeup artist of choice, @paintedbyesther, the woman who champions vivid pink blush beneath the eyes and made it a worldwide trend. With this glam squad, and Olandria’s Barbie-like proportions, we can’t wait to see how she shows up at the Met!

BRIDAL HAIR & BEAUTY
Bridal season is upon us and we’re seeing some stunning trends. Yes, there will always be the classics, but this season’s brides are going all out when it comes to romance and soft styling. Read on for our hair, makeup and nail predictions for your bride’s big day.
MAKEUP / SOFT GLAM
While the clean girl aesthetic and dewy skin are making a speedy retreat, the emphasis for bridal glam is always going to be about glowing skin that lasts all day. The key to this is layering the right products and using setting spray at every stage.
When it comes to 2026 bridal glam think soft pinks and take inspiration from the iconic makeup artist Ngozi Edeme, better known as @paintedbyesther. This makeup artist has singlehandedly encouraged the world to wear pink blush high on the cheeks and right under the eyes. The result is a pretty, otherworldly flush. If that’s a little too much use blush as a way to contour the face rather than going heavy with a contour product.
HAIR / MODERN ROMANTIC
Maybe it’s the influence of recent film release Wuthering Heights but something’s got the 2026 bride feeling wistful and wanton and in search of undone braids. This is the perfect style for the bride who loves a bit of vintage styling, perhaps a Vivienne Westwood style corset and full skirt? Even undone waves can ensure a bride feels sexy on the big day; just remember, it takes effort to make an undone look work!
Hair inspiration for the big day with Amie Sillis
Olivia Garden Educator Amie Sillis shares her predictions on the biggest hair trends for brides this year.
For my bridal clients, the trends mirror what I’m seeing in the salon, but elevated. Brides want to look like the most refined version of themselves and at the same time, they want to appear effortless and natural but considered.
HAIR / SLEEK AND MODERN
For the woman who needs to feel ‘put together’ on the big day, it’s time to play with super sleek styles of the past but keep them elevated and fresh by skipping over the top accessories. For instance, a low chignon or a volumised updo never go out of style, but a way to keep them fresh is by hiding any signs of grips.
The emphasis should be on flawless execution rather than pretty bling so if you’re feeling a little rusty when it comes to your updo skills, be sure to check out our range of bridal and occasion styling courses at www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk/training/hair-courses/ styling/trend-bridal-and-event-hair-course
Many brides are choosing to wear their hair off the face this year, while maintaining softness through a loose, mermaidstyle waterfall curl. It’s romantic without feeling overly ‘done’ which is important for modern brides.
When it comes to updos, we’re seeing a revival of that Pamela Anderson/Kim Kardashian-inspired softness, so think French rolls and structured shapes, but with intentionally undone elements. There’s confidence in allowing pieces to fall naturally and not forcing perfection.
For dressing out curls and creating airy volume, I always focus on maintaining lightness. I often use the Olivia Garden Fingerbrush to gently brush through curls, preserving shape and softness without collapsing the style. For more refined updos, controlled backcombing is essential to build structure that creates lasting volume and support, especially for long wedding days!
Bouncy, voluminous blow-dries are also huge for bridal events and pre-wedding celebrations. The Olivia Garden MultiBrush is one of my go-to tools for this, because it allows me to create polished, lasting volume while keeping movement soft and touchable. You can even set the barrels into the hair to cool for added lift and hold, which is perfect for long days or anyone attending multiple events.
Visit capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk and capitalhairandbeauty.ie today for all your bridal styling needs!
Here are three bridal trends we’re loving when it comes to nails!
THINK PINK
Yes pink is the obvious option when it comes to romance but honestly, it’s one of those colours that looks good on everyone because it comes in a million different shades! From baby pink to a sheer shimmering rose or a vibrant fuchsia on a darker skin tone, pink offers a hint of fun and charm on the big day.
SHEER MAGIC
For brides who love a clean take on romance dive into the Cloud Dancer nail trend. It’s cool, fresh and understated – we’ve got more on this sheer, milky trend over on page 14!
A BOLD POP
If the bride’s wearing white then nothing adds a touch of drama like a bold scarlet set of nails. We’ve got some of the most stunning reds you can imagine, so check out our offerings from the likes of The GelBottle, OPI and The Manicure Company.
BRIDES LOVE: GHD Chronos

Welcome to the Capital Collective, an expertly curated edit that brings you the industry’s leading haircare innovators. We’ve carefully selected these products with hair professionals in mind: think of it as your own personal library of high-end treatments which stand out for their science-backed formulations and impressive results.
K18
Advanced haircare selected by professionals for professionals.
Meet your new favourites – for you and your clients.
BRIOGEO
The best products are born out of love, and back in 2013, Briogeo founder Nancy Twine was inspired by her grandma’s DIY hair and beauty recipes. Today the brand has become a force when it comes to caring for multiple hair concerns and is immensely popular with women of colour who want deep conditioning treatments that make the most of their curls and protect their hair damage caused by heat straightening.
GREAT FOR SCALP AND HAIR HEALTH CONCERNS. As well as its comprehensive range of styling products, Briogeo has an amazing scalp-focused range consisting of targeted in-salon treatments and at-home pre-shampoos and conditioners to keep scalps healthy and clean.
Founded in 2020 by Suveen Sahib and Britta Cox, K18 took the market by storm thanks to its immediately visible results. Since its dawn the brand has gone on to become a pioneer not only in product formulation, but also by harnessing the power of social media to show real results in real time. Most recently we’ve fallen in love with HeatBounce, a luxurious conditioning heat protectant that delivers on every level.
GREAT FOR REPAIR AND STRENGTHENING. There’s no denying K18’s nourishing hair-healthy range has changed the face of haircare. Add on a glow-enhancing treatment at the backwash or encourage your clients to take some home with them. UK ONLY
COLOR WOW
While Color Wow has become known as the best in the business when it comes to colour care, it began as a range designed to be the first ever ‘prescriptive’ remedy for reducing colour-treatment related frizz. Founder and CEO Gail Federici set out to create a heat-activated humidity shield sealant that would give blonde clients a glass-like finish. That product was of course the award-winning Dream Coat. Today the brand has a plethora of products that always come from asking the right question: what’s missing in the hair market?
CHRISTOPHE ROBIN
Formulated by world-leading hair colourist Christophe Robin, this luxurious haircare brand was launched in 1999. Christophe was taking care of multiple A-list clients whose careers demanded that they had flawless manes at any hour of the day. In 2021 the brand’s extensive range was given a complete makeover, and one of its top-selling products right now is the nourishing Regenerating Mask with Prickly Pear Oil.
GREAT FOR EVERYDAY HAIRCARE.
For clients who love their biweekly blowouts or want to keep their hair cleansed and conditioned at home, Christophe Robin will be a firm favourite.
GREAT FOR ADVANCED COLOUR CARE.
If you check out our colour trends forecast on page 12 you’ll know that colour care is going to be an essential part of most of your client’s home regime. Color Wow has always had caring for colour treated hair as a core value and 13 years in, the results still speak for themselves. UK ONLY
SEBASTIAN
When it comes to setting trends, it starts on the catwalk and Sebastian Professional is a brand that many a session stylist turns to when they need results backstage. This is the brand that disrupted the entire haircare world – and gained a ton of imitators – with the launch of its multi-tasking Potion 9 back in the ‘90s. One thing to expect about this fashion-forward brand is constant innovation and immaculate styling inspiration.
GREAT FOR STYLING AND FINISHING.
Fully focused on the latest fashion trends, Sebastian is a brand that’s constantly on the move when it comes to styling products that deliver results.

Off duty model hair
For Hiro Kudo, Artistic Director at Kiku, getting this off-duty model look is less about obvious styling and more about condition, finish and movement.
“That means smooth, glossy waves that feel fluid and natural, rather than overly shaped or set. The focus is on hair that looks healthy first, with shine that comes from good preparation and the right products, not excessive styling.
There’s something happening in the fashion world; models are making a comeback as celebrities in their own right! And a lot of this is down to their hair.
The models of the moment
While the ‘90s was an era that churned out a slew of glamazons known solely by their first names – Naomi, Cindy, Christy, Linda and Claudia – things began to change as celebrities took the hot spots front row at fashion week and on the covers of global fashion magazines.
However, slowly but surely, social media has changed all that. Now we have more access than ever to models of the moment like Mathilda Gvarliani and Taylor Hill, which means your clients know exactly how and what they’re doing with their hair!
Ever since Mathilda became the first Georgian model to walk for Victoria’s Secret in 2024, her hairstyle has been on the most requested list around the world. There’s something about her flawless cut that makes her hair look effortless and full of life.
“This look is built around softness and flow. The hair should move easily, with a liquid-like quality that catches the light without appearing heavy or overworked. Precision cutting plays an important role here, as the shape needs to support movement while maintaining a clean, balanced outline,” explains Hiro.
When it comes to model Taylor Hill’s stunning pixie cut, once again the focus was on looking totally effortless, but first Taylor had to cut off a lot of hair. In fact
when she first cut her hair in 2023 the internet went into shock!
Prior to going short Taylor had super long hair, but after getting married she said she felt like a fresh start. Stylist Takuya Yamaguchi gave her the results she’d been after and she hasn’t looked back since!
For Paul Ralph, Creative Director at Kiku the concept of off duty model hair is all about hair that looks like it belongs on the street or the runway, relaxed, textured and with natural movement.
Paul says, “cuts need to support movement without looking heavy or overworked. Subtle layers and carefully considered lengths help hair sit naturally, while faceframing pieces give shape and personality. The aim is a style that looks lived-in but still polished enough to feel intentional.”
Amelia Evans, Artistic Director at Hare & Bone agrees; off duty model hair is never over styled.
“This look is about hair that moves naturally and looks better as the day goes on. The key is starting with a great cut, working with natural hair texture and being led by how the hair wants to move – it should fall perfectly without much effort.
“Face framing is great for this too as it elevates any look even if quickly dried and looks amazing with an undone updo. It’s all about enhancing the natural texture rather than fighting it. I always recommend prepping the hair with a lightweight moisturizing cream, ideally with heat protection, through the mid-lengths to keep things polished. At the roots use either a dry texture spray, or a sea salt spray for that effortless, lived-in feel. Finish by breaking it up with your hands – not a brush. Off-duty model hair should feel personal, slightly undone and completely wearable.”

Men’s hair moment
We can’t deny it; men’s hair has never looked better! With the likes of actors Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie, more and more men are embracing their curls and playing with ‘70s style shags. Read on for the expert take on men’s hair right now.
THE TOP 3 MEN’S HAIRSTYLES FOR 2026
#1 The baby mullet
Jacob Elordi might have singlehandedly given the mullet some sex appeal! The Frankenstein star has been rocking his mullet with divine tailoring from design houses like Bottega Veneta, but still maintains an edge with long length and accessories like a huggie earring.
This is a style that’s slowly but surely been making a comeback over the past two years and this is it in it’s most defined take yet, a soft or baby mullet. It’s way less shaggy than previous mullets and is all about short and tidy sides often using clippers for more precision.
Jake Cox at No Bad Days has noticed requests for the soft mullet increasing:
“We’re seeing more high tapers on the sides with the back left natural; it’s not a full mullet, but a soft one. It’s relaxed, modern, and a very cool way to wear length.”
By the way, you can expect even more baby mullet requests in the run-up to the four part film series on iconic British band The Beatles being released in 2028!
#2 The grown-out shag
The key to rocking this look is having enough hair in the first place, because it’s a seriously chopped-up cut. A great option for men with round, square or oval faces, it features face framing and soft, long layers and is super easy to style at home.
For Alex Wakefield at Fella this look is rooted in the British music scene.
“Being based in Soho, London we’ve always had strong links to the Mod and music scene. When we we saw Joe (our model) come into the shop, straight away I could see a young Richard Ashcroft (lead singer of The Verve) and so he became the inspiration behind our look - that real early 90’s indie look. A proper rock star in the making,” explains Alex.
For Andrew Plester at Arkive by Adam Reed, this move towards longer hair is a reflection of a certain British cultural phenomenon.
“The Oasis reunion has played a huge role but it’s also because we’re using clippers less and leaning into scissors more. Barbering is moving closer to men’s hairdressing, with more focus on shape, movement, and wearability,” says Andrew.
#3 Curly high-top
When the you notice all the schoolboys wearing their hair curly you know it’s only a matter of time before the men get involved. Thankfully the beloved mushroom cut has morphed into a more grown-up trend, the curly high top. It’s still a very defined cut and is one of the more productfocused styles of the season but is well worth the effort.

Jim Shaw on men’s curls
Men’s curls are officially back. So many actors and celebs are proving that curls and texture is one of the best looks going right now. Whether it’s loose and undone or polished and classic, here are some simple steps to ensure your curly clients are looking their best.
It starts with the cut; medium length on top with soft layers gives the curls room to move, with the sides tapered rather than faded. When it comes to washing, less is more. I advise my curly clients to shampoo and condition once or twice a week to avoid drying out their hair. Also, sulphatefree products will keep their curls hydrated, healthy and shiny so I always recommend those where possible.
2
Styling should always be done on damp hair. After gently towel drying, apply a light curl cream, mousse or leavein conditioner and scrunch upwards with your hands. Avoid brushes: these can break the curl pattern and cause unwanted frizz. When it comes to drying, air-drying gives relaxed, effortless curls that look a lot like Jacob Elordi’s, whereas using a diffuser on a low heat and low speed setting will create more definition like we see on Oscar Isaac.
3
For a finishing touch I like to keep things natural, using my fingers to loosen the curls alongside a drop of oil or serum if needed. The best curly styles look like low-effort, which is exactly the point.
The grown-out shag and soft 70s-inspired curl styles focus on ease and confidence. What we’re seeing with men like Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac is a shift away from over-styling, towards hair that feels natural, textured and lived-in.
To achieve the look, length is key, and healthy length always starts at the scalp. Strong growth relies on good circulation, low inflammation and a balanced scalp environment, so I like to encourage my clients to invest in a scalp oil to support the scalp as hair grows, alongside internal support via a supplement. When it comes to styling, the key is working with the hair’s natural texture, so I like to use a defining curl cream as a pre-styling product before gently diffusing the hair to encourage movement and shape rather than forcing it.

Two key trends for hair this year are playing with colour and texture so we’ve got two amazing styles for you to recreate. From a clean, crisp blonde to a freehand cut and colour, let’s see where the inspiration takes you!
#Look 1: A multi-textured cut with a beautifully conditioned platinum blonde look
Here Nick Irwin, Schwarzkopf Global Ambassador shares his cut and style technique.
This is a classic basic layered hair cut with a textured twist and the key here is to maintain an even length all over – here, it’s 5cm.
Next, there should be no blunt cutting; instead use the points of the scissors following the classic section pattern. Cut wet to dry to see the texture unfold as you go but on heavier textures a razor might be useful.
Finally, to style and finish I like to use OSIS Strong Flex Wax Cream plus their Freeze Hold Hairspray – great for keeping a style in shape all day long!
COLOUR TECHNIQUE
Schwarzkopf Blondme 9+ Lightner with New Blondeme Gel Toner
• Mix Blondme Premium 9+ Lightner (1:2) with 6% (max for scalp applications).
• In the above Lightner mixture add 5mls Blondme Bleach and Tone ASH.
• Applied to the Natural base7 roots to ends.
• Process for 40 mins without heat.
• Lifting and toning in one simple step.
• Maintain with Blondme Essentials Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner.
Next Andy Smith, Indola Global Ambassador breaks down how he used freehand cutting on afro hair.
Start with a shampoo and then towel dry. Then comb out the hair into the desired but unrefined shape. Then, use your comb and scissors to tighten the shape visually. You’re working freehand so it’s about maintaining a balance and clearly focusing on the desired look, always looking from every angle.
To style apply Indola Styling Treat & Tame and work it into the hair before leaving it to dry naturally.
ABBEY SMITH, INDOLA UK AMBASSADOR SHARES HER COLOUR TECHNIQUE
• Mix Indola Rapid Blonde Blue Lightner with 2% developer (1:2).
• Use the product freehand directly to areas of previous darker colour base.
• Process for 15mins to break the base.
• Rinse dry and then apply Indola PPC Permanent Color shades 7-44 + 8-0 with (3:1) With Indola Colour Transformer.
• Maintain with Indola Care Colour Shampoo and Conditioner.
EXPERT IN FOCUS
Whether you’re an established waxing pro or thinking about adding waxing to your service menu, read on to find out how Becky Priest built her business and also became a dab hand at creating educational content on her favourite subject.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO WAXING?
Beauty was never something I originally saw myself stepping into as a career choice; I actually studied art and design and planned on going into interior design. Clearly being creative was something I enjoyed, but once I gave birth to my daughter when I was 20 years old, I left the idea of university behind and became fully focused on my family and being a mum.
As time went on I noticed how I missed earning my own money and having something that was about being me – Becky – and not just being a mummy. My friend was a beautician and makeup artist and she was desperate to give up beauty treatments so she could concentrate on makeup. She convinced me that I could be brilliant at waxing because she saw how hands-on and confident I was with people. It was the first idea I took seriously when it came to making a little business for myself and something I could do around my children. I started studying, set my business up from my bedroom and it grew very quickly.
WHAT
DO YOU LIKE ABOUT WAXING?
At first it was very much the flexibility in working around
my little ones and being present for them when they needed me.
However, as time went on and I began to understand waxing more, I loved how it brought me close to people who I might not come across in my normal day to day.
The amount of people I’ve met who come in to see me feeling vulnerable about showing me what they feel self-conscious about with their body, and then they leave with confidence that I helped them gain? There’s something really special about that.
Over time I’ve noticed that while most treatments help individuals feel more confident, for some it can still feel crippling, especially when they’re dealing with thick hair that irritates their skin, or makes them feel uncomfortable and want to hide themselves away.
FOR ANYONE WHO’S THINKING OF GETTING INTO WAXING, WOULD YOU SAY IT’S A PROFITABLE SERVICE?
Yes! Waxing is very profitable! Just be sure to charge your worth and have a policy in place
to protect your time. This will support you in earning what you deserve. Plus, waxing is a treatment that can be done with speed and less product outlay.
FOR ANYONE WHO’S THINKING OF ADDING WAXING TO THEIR SERVICES BUT IS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT IT, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO INTIMATE AREAS, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE?
Most people feel nervous about hurting someone when it comes to waxing, so naturally we approach things more gently. However, when it comes to waxing, in order to make it more comfortable for the client you will need to be more firm with your pressure; from application to stretching the skin and removal.
The more assertive you are the more it will show confidence, which will help your client to relax. Don’t let the thought of it being an intimate wax overwhelm you; focus on each step and remember all the basics of waxing.
Becky’s top tips on how to give the best waxing service possible When it comes to being a great waxer it’s not just about being great at waxing; it’s about being approachable, having a good attitude, maintaining high hygiene standards and using a technique that has the client in mind always.
1 Never bad mouth other clients or businesses during a treatment; it says more about you than anyone you’re talking about. The client should always feel they can trust you and your positive language plays a huge part in this.
2
Product knowledge is key in providing the best service for each individual. There are so many hair and skin types, plus a mix of reasons as to why someone might react differently. Having good product knowledge will help you offer options on what each individual needs.
3
Waxing is a personal treatment, particularly with intimate waxing, so making your space a safe zone is essential. I recommend a dignity box for your clients to place their clothes for privacy.
4
A tidy environment says so much about your work and your approach. Clean the couch in between each client, wear fresh gloves, empty the bin after each client and no double dipping! Clients will notice these details straight away.
5 Don’t just give generic after care advice; make sure the advice you’re giving shows that you understand your client, their skin and hair growth. Each individual will need different products to really support their skin and prevent ingrown hairs.

INGREDIENT DEEP DIVE: HYALURONIC
ACID
Sometimes a skincare ingredient pops up, causes hysteria and is quickly replaced by another, bigger, better trend. But sometimes, that ingredient goes on to conquer the entire skincare industry, turning up in a myriad of products and even influencing innovation in hair and lash care. One such ingredient is Hyaluronic Acid. Read on for the essentials on this need-to-know ingredient.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic Acid is a gooey substance naturally found in the eyes, joints and the skin. What it does is keep things moving smoothly, preventing joints and bones from grinding and causing pain.
It also keeps us hydrated; think eye drops for dry eyes. Hyaluronic Acid is the ingredient that brings relief and hydration back, and it does the same with our skin. The reason it’s so amazing at hydrating us from head to toe is because it is very good at retaining water. Just one quarter teaspoon of Hyaluronic Acid can hold about 1.5 gallons of water; that’s why it’s become the go-to for almost every skincare brand.
HOW CAN I BRING IT INTO MY SERVICES?
Hyaluronic Acid helps improve skin elasticity, ensuring it stretches and flexes, and it’s also pretty great at reducing wrinkles and scarring. If you’re a facialist then a Hyaluronic Acid serum is going to be the easiest way to layer this hydrating ingredient into your services, but there’s a very specific way you should incorporate it into your process.
Hyaluronic Acid’s power lies in the fact that it attracts and retains moisture; it doesn’t act as an instant hydrator by simply applying on bare skin. In fact it works best on damp skin. That way you’re already working on retaining that moisture. Then, you’re going to go in with a moisturiser to create a kind of ‘moisture sandwich’. For bonus hydration, use a moisturiser that contains Ceramides; they help soften the skin, repair the skin barrier and also prevent moisture from escaping. The final step, in any routine, is always sunscreen.
If you’re a hairdresser who’s interested in how Hyaluronic Acid can improve styling and treatments, there are plenty of brands leaning into making the most of this hydrating ingredient. Hydrated hair is healthier hair!

TIME FOR A RESET?
No two days are the same for anyone living that freelance life. As well as making sure your clients look and feel amazing, you also need to stay organised, pay bills, order stock, manage a social media profile – or several! On top of that it’s vital to stay in touch with what’s happening in your industry. Here lifestyle coach Maria Evangelou shares her advice on how to survive and thrive as a freelancer.
Structure, discipline and community are the foundations of a calm, sustainable freelance business. So many freelancers I speak to aren’t struggling because they lack talent: they’re overwhelmed because everything feels scattered. Organisation doesn’t have to mean rigidity or burnout. In fact, done well, it creates freedom.
ORGANISATION WITHOUT BURNOUT
One of the simplest shifts is committing to one system only: one calendar, one notes app and one way of tracking finances. Reducing mental overload immediately brings more clarity. From there, I encourage a weekly 30-minute check-in. Think of it as your own CEO meeting. Look at income and expenses, review what’s coming up, and set just three priorities for the week ahead. Nothing more. Consistency here is far more powerful than constant firefighting.
INTENTIONAL DIARY
STRUCTURE
Diary structure is another gamechanger. Working with defined appointment times, building in
buffer space for consultations or overruns, and protecting at least one non-client block each week for admin and planning makes a huge difference to how your days feel. When your diary has structure, you feel more in control, and your clients feel more supported. Protect your time, protect your energy, and protect expectations.
TIME BLOCKING, STOCK AND PREPARATION
Preparation also plays a big role in staying calm. One of the most common issues freelancers face is appointments and stock not aligning. A simple habit of reviewing upcoming bookings and checking stock levels removes last-minute stress and allows you to show up confident and prepared. I always recommend keeping enough product for at least one premium service. That way, if an opportunity comes up, you can say yes without hesitation. Preparation is one of the easiest ways to increase income without increasing hours.
KEEPING SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE UP TO DATE
Staying up to date doesn’t need
to feel overwhelming. Fifteen to twenty minutes of micro-learning each week is enough – if it’s consistent.
Choose one focus per quarter, whether that’s technique, mindset or marketing, and follow a small number of people who genuinely inspire you. It’s not about chasing every trend, it’s about staying aligned.
COMMUNITY MATTERS
Finally, community matters just as much as systems. Freelancing can feel isolating, but working for yourself doesn’t mean doing it alone. Community can be as simple as a monthly coffee with another freelancer, attending education days, or being part of an online space where wins and struggles can be shared.
Community creates accountability, confidence and perspective - and reminds you that what you’re experiencing is normal and support is always available.
