Aurukun to farewell local icon
One of a kind A MASSIVE funeral is expected in Aurukun this Friday as the community farewells much-loved local man Bruce Martin, who was killed in Townsville last month. Mourners from across the country will gather to pay their respects to the man who pushed for positive change in his community and across the Peninsula. A founder of APN Cape York, Mr Martin leaves behind a long legacy. A lover of the cattle industry and the
jobs it could provide locals, he was also president of Cape York’s live export group and was an inaugural member of the Prime Minister’s Indigenous Advisory Council. Mr Martin’s sister, Aurukun mayor Keri Tamwoy, said it was her brother who told her to run for the position in the lead up to the 2020 local government elections. “He’s had an impact on so many people in a positive way and I know he’s going to be missed all over the country,” she said.
