PMWHS students get hands-on lesson in safety Story & photos by Lori R. Cooper SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions, held a safety carnival at Pocono Mountain West High School on Friday, May 5. Eight stations were set up for students to interact and learn. Senior Mychaela Dunham noted that this event “brings awareness to drunk driving and it is good to learn things you don’t get to in a regular curriculum.” Fire company tankers were on hand to allow students to use the hoses to knock over orange cones and get a feel for the pressure of the water. Jolene Fette from J&J Towing showed students how to remove and replace tires and noted this “helps them be aware of emergency services.” State Trooper Ian Hopkins volunteered for the event to inform students not just about traffic safety but to have hands on experience with procedures, arrests and equipment.
